MY COMMUNITY NEWS Food For Love Seeks Nominations for Their Christmas Cook Campaign As the holiday season approaches Food For Love have opened nominations for their Christmas Cook campaign. If you know of anyone who is going to be alone this Christmas, or someone who is going through a difficult time, Food For Love will be preparing and delivering Christmas dinner to those in need on Christmas morning. Whatever the reason, Food For Love is here to support the community this Christmas. Whether you know of a family member, neighbour, friend or colleague who is going to be on their own, is unwell, injured, or can’t travel to be with family, you can nominate them up until 22 December. You can even nominate yourself.

Operations Manager, Bex Sarginson said last year they delivered over 200 Christmas dinners to people all over Wanaka and this year the team are gearing up to deliver the same. She said in addition to making nominations, you can support the Christmas Cook Campaign by making a donation to Food For Love towards the food, you can sign up to help with meal preparation, or as a driver for an hour on Christmas morning to help with the deliveries. Hāwea Moggie Squad is marking the two-year anniversary of its establishment in late 2021 by a dedicated group of local volunteers. Committed to enhancing the welfare of cats and kittens in the Hāwea district, the Squad offers an array of essential services. This includes diligently scanning found felines for potential reunions with their owners, fostering and rehoming stray cats and kittens post-de-sexing, vaccination, and microchipping, along with providing valuable support to locate missing cats. As the kitten season unfolds, the Squad urgently seeks new foster families. In addition to fostering, various volunteer roles are available, ranging from fundraising and social media coordination to trustee positions, catering to diverse skills and schedules. The community’s involvement is crucial, serving as the Squad’s eyes and ears to report lost or stray cats, the location of kittens while they are young and able to be caught and socialised, road accidents involving felines, or to seek general cat-related assistance. Temporary Closure of Roys Bay Ski Access Lane Public notice is hereby given to temporarily alter the designation of the Roys Bay ski access lane between 22 December 2023 and 11 February 2024 pursuant to the Queenstown Lakes District Council’s Navigation Safety Bylaw 2018. The temporary revocation of the Roys Bay water ski access lane is in consideration of the influx of swimmers in this area over summer that have raised high risk safety concerns for passive users if encountering a vessel using the ski lane for its designated purpose. Access lane rules (Clause 42 of the Navigation Safety Bylaw 2018) no longer apply during this period, and swimming is permitted. If entering this area between these dates, please note that no vessels (including those towing a water skier) are permitted to exceed 5 knots within 200 metres of the shore. Christmas time should be special for every family and with the support of a community we can ensure all these families get what they need to have an enjoyable and festive Christmas! We are collecting food items under our Christmas tree instore for our local Foodbank, every donation big or small can give someone a helping hand this festive season. ITEMS THE FOODBANK NEED: CHRISTMAS TREATS (mince pies, chocs, etc), PASTA, RICE, SUGAR, FLOUR, CANNED GOODS (veg, fish, etc), KIDS SNACKS (raisins, muesli bars, fruit in jelly pots), TOILETRIES (shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, etc), BREAKFAST CEREALS, CLEANING PRODUCTS, BISCUITS AND CRACKERS.
