MAKING EVERY BITE COUNT

Everyone knows that the cost of food is sky rocketing, but did you know that according to Love Food Hate Waste, homes in Aotearoa throw away over 157,000 tonnes of food every year? That’s enough to feed everyone in the Upper Clutha region for more than twenty years.

This is why Wastebusters has partnered with Zero Waste Network to launch Every Bite, a food appreciation movement designed to help households become more food resourceful, with the aim of reducing household food waste across Aotearoa by 10%.

The four-week programme provides participants with the tools and resources and, most importantly, the motivation to monitor their food waste, keep on top of the contents of their fridge, and make use of every bite before it spoils.

A successful pilot study in February 2024 showed that the simple act of observing food waste can result in significant changes within the household, with many participants reporting the lasting positive impact that Every Bite has had on their day to day lives.

Wastebusters is looking for 100 Wānaka residents to take part in the next phase of the Every Bite programme, which kicks off at 6.00pm, 29 April at the Lake Wānaka Centre with an inspiring in-person session with local, professional chef and Dripping Bowl owner Evelyn Vallilee. Evelyn will offer up industry tips to cut spoilage, ideas for recipe substitutions, and some delicious tasty treats to help get the programme under way.

Volunteering for Coastguard Wanaka Lakes is a team effort – requiring just as much precision and effort off the water as it does on the water.

Coastguard Wanaka Lakes relies on a Designated Person Ashore (DPA) to ensure volunteer safety on the water. The DPA maintains constant communication with the Unit’s vessel, Waiariki Rescue, during training or operational activities.

We need someone to handle tasks such as maintaining communication with the CRV, other vessels and rescue organizations, and logging everything. Training provided. If you have familiarity with Microsoft Office, a device for app downloads, excellent communication skills, and want to make a difference we want to hear from you!

Land of the Long Long Drive

A perfect school holiday activity for children aged 3 to 10 and their caregivers. The friends face a number of trials on the road, and learn that despite their di erences, they can achieve their goals by working together! A tale for Kiwi kids, featuring iconic NZ creatures, landscapes and fresh waiata by NZ singer-songwriter Benny Tipene. Winner of the 3–8 year-old section of Playmarket’s Plays for the Young Competition, Land

of the Long Long Drive brings you a laugh-out-loud, inspiring adventure of three unlikely heroes.

Land of the Long Long Drive is presented by Arts on Tour which brings these wonderful shows to heartland Aotearoa. We pay a fee, and any additional revenue made from ticket sales is kept by the Lake Hawea Community Centre to assist with general running and compliance costs.

Upper Clutha Tramping Club - Notice of AGM

The 22nd Annual General Meeting of the Upper Clutha Tramping Club Inc. will be held at the Wanaka Fire Station, Ballantyne Road, Wanaka, at 7.30pm on Wednesday, 8 May 2024.

Prospective members are welcome to attend this meeting. The AGM will be followed by a video review of some of our tramps over the last year and a video providing guidance on crossing rivers safely. This will give prospective members a valuable insight into what the club has to o er.

Anyone interested in joining the club is welcome to any of our monthly meetings. You can also join one of our tramps to meet members and get a feel for what we
