Wanaka’s most glamorous event of the year is coming this October...

Te Kura O Take Kārara is hosting the Three Parks Step Back in Time Charity Ball school fundraiser. This not-to-be-missed night will celebrate the style and romance of the roaring 1940s, one of the most memorable decades of the twentieth century. Guests will experience entertainment provided by 1940s-era musical trio The Bombettes and LA Social, a sumptuous three-course meal by Chef Brendan Catering, welcome drinks, plus all-night bar and specialty gin bar.

This is a perfect opportunity for a pre-Christmas work function, or just an excuse to get decked out in your swankiest vintage gear and party the night away!

School principal Jodie Howard said the amazing efforts of the school community and generous backing from Willowridge Developments Ltd and other sponsors would guarantee a memorable night.

“Having our own school van will give us greater flexibility to use anytime, control over costs, and enable us to take small groups of children to connect with community events and projects.”

“We are so grateful for the support for our kura.”

Event details: Saturday, October 19, Lake Wanaka Centre. Limited to just 200 tickets, this event will be a sell-out, so secure your attendance today at www.trybooking.com/nz/tbr

Proceeds from live and silent auctions on the night will go to Te Kura O Take Kārara school, at Three Parks, to purchase a dedicated school van.

MY COMMUNITY NEWS

Food for Love Fundraiser

A Teeny Tiny Truth

Community organisation WAI Wānaka is hosting an evening kōrero at the Wānaka Library with a focus on microplastics in our waterways.

A screening of WAI’s new short lm (also titled A Teeny Tiny Truth) will be shown during the event, which showcases marine scientist Veronica Rotman as she completes her PhD research on microplastics in Lake Wānaka, as well as exploring the community’s connection to fresh water.

Attendees will also learn about WAI’s new citizen science initiative, which provides an opportunity for volunteers to build on Veronica’s research by continuing to collect valuable data on microplastics in our water.

We are excited to announce that Balance Me and On the Spot Northlake are coming together to host ‘Koha Soup,’ a delicious fundraiser supporting the local charity Food for Love.

Most people in this community will know someone who has been touched by Food for Love’s incredible work. Last year, Food for Love provided over 8,000 meals to individuals and families in our community, making a signi cant impact on those in need of support.

This Wednesday and every Wednesday thereafter, you can

Wastebusters and Plastic Free Wānaka will be joining for this kōrero, helping provide practical tips that reduce our reliance on plastics, particularly single-use.

“Plastic Free July is a perfect time to learn about microplastics in our water and ways we can all get involved in this research,” says Jaylene of WAI Wānaka.

WAI wishes to thank the Otago Participatory Science Platform for supporting this initiative.

The event is free to attend, however booking is essential as space is limited. RSVP by emailing wanaka.library@qldc.govt.nz today. For more information, visit www.waiwanaka.nz/events

INFO: www.waiwanaka.nz/events

The newly formed Upper Clutha Sports Services Hub is ready to take its rst steps toward supporting sports clubs across the Upper Clutha district.

The Hub was born out of a common concern from clubs, facing increasing challenges due to lack of resources around administration, nance, governance and sector advocacy.

The Hub has been established and registered as an Incorporated Society, giving it the ability to generate sustainable funding and contract sta to provide the support services directly to clubs. Initial seed funding has been provided by QLDC.

The Hub will be led by a Management Committee made up of local volunteers, bringing a range of skills and significant experience in governance, finance, legal,

funding and administration. A Club Liaison Group, facilitated by a Sport Central representative, will engage clubs through quarterly Hub events with the rst session to be held on 21 August, starting at 7.30am.

Hub Chair Glenn Peat said “This new Hub will provide an important vehicle to forge connections to provide mutual bene t for our sporting and business communities. We really hope our local businesses will get behind this initiative and explore where they can support the great work that our volunteer clubs are out there doing every day”.

Local businesses interested in engaging with the Hub and volunteers who are able to contribute their time and experience are invited to connect via email at uppercluthassh@gmail.com.
