The Cancer Society invites courageous people to ‘Jump for Cancer’ to support the 1 in 3 people impacted by cancer.

The skydive fundraiser will happen at Skydive Wanaka on Saturday, 27 May and at NZONE Skydive Queenstown on Sunday, 28 May. Skydivers can also arrange another time in May if these jump days do not suit.

Picture yourself at the open doorway of a plane. Feel the air rushing past you, your quickened pulse as you look down on breath-taking Aotearoa. Imagine edging towards the door, and then before you know it... 3... 2... 1... jump!

FIBROMYALGIA

The struggle is real, we hear you. We see multiple people nearly every week that come to us asking if there is anything they can do to manage the symptoms of their fibromyalgia, because what is usually recommended by their healthcare team just isn’t cutting it anymore.

So what is fibromyalgia? In a nutshell, it is a chronic disorder that causes pain and tenderness that is widespread throughout the body, accompanied by significant fatigue, altered sleep and changes to memory and mood (often referred to as brain fog). Many conventional treatments are given to manage this, from antidepressants used for pain, to talking and behavioural coping therapies. But despite best efforts, many people still continue to struggle with this condition.

Here at antidote we have been having some great success in manging both the widespread pain and the brain fog associated with fibromyalgia with a range of supplements from the company SRW. We have been combining two of their products, SKL1 and NMN (discussed below), and the comments have been brilliant. One long term fibromyalgia sufferer had this to tell us:

Climate Strike

Tens of thousands of New Zealanders will stand united on Friday, 26 May for climate justice.

The Sustainability Committee from Mount Aspiring College has organised a climate strike in conjunction with schools nationwide.

The strike is beginning at 1.00pm at Lismore Park and anyone in the community who wishes to participate is welcome to meet us there.

This strike is taking place to express our concerns regarding the climate crisis and to demand

more action be taken to improve Aotearoa’s sustainability.

The national demands for the strike are:

• A 50% reduction in emissions by 2030 without relying on o sets.

• 100% transition to regenerative agriculture by 2030.

• Te Tiriti centred climate justice.

• Lower the voting age to 16. Climate change is having a devastating impact on the world and action needs to be taken now. We would love as many people as possible to join us in our ght for climate justice.

Free Mental Health Skills Workshop for Volunteers and NGOs

The free GoodYarn Mental Health education workshop delivered by Queenstown charity Headlight provides attendees with practical skills and training, to help them to learn what mental health is, the signs and symptoms of mental distress, how to talk to someone who is struggling and what support is available.

Peer facilitators from Queenstown with lived experience of mental health challenges will lead the workshop and provide practical tools and advice to help those working or volunteering in the NGO sector to support their wellbeing and that of their friends, whānau, and community.

Volunteers and sta of local charities or community groups are invited to attend an upcoming free workshop to help them talk to community members about mental health and wellbeing.

The role will be rewarding and suit someone who enjoys working with older persons in a close-knit, family environment. The focus at the outset will be to welcome and induct our new residents into their apartments and to assist with their living requirements going forward. Our existing Aspiring Village team will provide full support to the Assisted Living employees along the way.

The 24 apartments will be staffed for 12 hours per day, 7 days per week. The role will be shared between various staff members, with shifts arranged to suit one’s lifestyle requirements.

The role will suit individuals who are highly organised, have initiative and practical skills, be hugely empathetic towards the elderly and be good communicators. Whilst this is not a direct care role, having a nursing or care background would be an advantage but not a prerequisite. A St John Level 1 Certificate (or equivalent of) is essential but this can be worked towards prior to employment. The successful applicants will be well remunerated according to experience and ability.
