CELEBRATE MATARIKI

Kāhu Youth is thrilled to bring our community together to celebrate Matariki, the Māori New Year!

Te Kāhui o Matariki is a cluster of stars that rises in mid-winter, marking the start of the Māori New Year. The Matariki celebration gives whānau and communities the opportunity to come together to reflect on the past year and reset and rise for the year ahead.

The event features free activities for tamariki and rangatahi, fostering appreciation for Māori culture through storytelling, performances, and hands-on activities.

Highlights include:

• Captivating kapa haka performances and storytelling of local Māori legends on the community stage.

• Engaging activities hosted by local environmental groups, explaining the significance of each star in the Te Kāhui o Matariki cluster.

• A delicious hangi (last year we sold out!).

• A giant bubble show, a highlight for younger tamariki.

• Mesmerising fire dancers and a spectacular lighting display to delight as the sun sets.

The celebration is a fantastic whānau-friendly event of culture, community spirit, and fun.
