A splash of young musical talent from Wanaka has just released a sparkly, sunny new EP thanks to the creative inspiration of New Zealand and Nashville singer-songwriter Jackie Bristow.

Jackie set up the SongCatcher programme to mentor aspiring local singer-songwriters aged between 9 - 16 years, releasing the youngsters' original recordings under the Jackie B and the Mini Band moniker.

The latest album, 'Summertime', is written and performed by Lacey Bristow, Edie Yandall, Charlotte Martin, and Freya Jeffrey, who put in months of work writing and rehearsing the tracks with Jackie, before heading to the recording studio to lay down the vocals.

After getting the full treatment from professionals in Nashville, the five-strong EP has dropped with

upbeat songs including the spine-tingling 'Spooky Hollywood', shimmery 'Summertime', feel-good 'Dreamcatcher', dreamy 'Rainbow Flowers' and the surreal lyrics of 'Into the Deep'.

For Wanaka-based Jackie, who as an international touring artist has played all over the world, it is a thrill to be an inspiration for young people, and genuinely rewarding to empower the girls to share song ideas and help them unleash their potential.

As for the girls, it has been an amazing experience which was all the better for having been shared with friends - and likely a musical journey with more chapters to come.

Cat Rescue Wanaka not only rescues waifs and strays, but thanks to local team Wood for Good, they rescue waste wood as well, and aim to turn it into the best kindling in town. The slash has been gathered, sorted, dried, and any larger pieces are split further to create banana boxes packed full with convenient sized kindling pieces ready to light your re. Each box receives a beautiful nishing touch – a note of thanks and a few sprigs of lavender.

These kindling boxes also make great practical and heart-warming gifts, whether it be for a house-warming, thank you, welcome neighbour, or a Random Act of Kindness. Boxes weigh around 6 - 8 kg; cost $10/box or better still, buy ve and get one free. Delivery can be arranged.

The kindling fundraiser generates much needed funds for this local registered charity, with costs around $2,000 a month.
