NEW SEASON FASHION NOW IN STORE

Operating now for almost 3 years the Wanaka Community Patrol is an integral part of our community fabric. Made up of approx 15 unpaid volunteers they monitor Wanaka/Hawea/Luggate communities late at night reporting any mischief or potential problems to local police so they can be dealt with quickly before they become more problematic. CPNZ has been around for many years in NZ with over 150 patrols throughout NZ with over 4000 patrollers.

Full training, uniforms and equipment are provided to volunteers. The Wanaka CP are a small, tight knit team of Wanaka locals who care about their community. They have their own vehicle to patrol with and occasionally do central town (CBD) foot patrols but always working with another patroller.

MY COMMUNITY NEWS Companionship connects Seniors with Community We have many amazing untold stories in our community. One of the outcomes we’d like to achieve through the Companionship for Older people project, run by Community Networks Wanaka, is connecting people with each other and opening up the opportunity to share and discuss some of these stories. Through the project, local volunteers from all walks of life, male and female, visit a senior once a week to spend some time together. Both seniors and volunteers have an initial chat with Coordinator Barbara Jungen to establish their backgrounds and interests. They then get matched and once the visits are underway, what they do during that hour depends on their common interests and abilities. Some choose to stay home for a chat, with many interesting stories to be heard by the volunteers, others go for an outing to get out of those four walls. The visits can open a whole new world to both the senior and the volunteer. Barbara stays in touch to make sure things are going well. Last December both the seniors and volunteers got together for an afternoon tea and another social gathering is planned for this May.

HOT CROSSED EASTER COOKIES An easier alternative to the classic hot crossed bun. Ingredients: 150 g softened butter ½ tsp mixed spice 1 c brown sugar 1 tsp cinnamon 1 egg 1 c raisins 2 c flour 2 tsp baking powder ½ c white chocolate (for the crosses) Method: 1. Cream butter and sugar together till fluffy then add egg and beat together. 2. Mix in all dry ingredients (except chocolate). 3. Roll into balls and flatten on a lined baking try. 4. Cook at 175 degrees till golden, about 15 minutes. 5. Once cool, decorate with crosses by melting white chocolate in a bowl over a pot of hot water. Use a teaspoon or piping bag to make crosses on top of cookies.
