It’s time for Hawea Playgroup's Annual Winter Garage Sale!! This year’s event is happening on Sunday 29th May in the Hawea Flat Hall on Camphill Road from 10am – 2pm.

Known for drawing a great crowd and for our absolutely delicious pop-up cafe, which is once again supported by The People’s Bread, Venus Coffee, and this year Udderly Fresh Milk as well, our cafe will serve delicious organic sourdough and ciabatta to accompany our famous kumara soup, home-made sausage rolls, beautiful coffee and homemade cakes and cookies.

The MC for the day will be playgroup committee member and local musician Anna van Riel who will perform songs from her children’s album “Cooking Up A Song”.

Wanaka Ukuleles, Anna Rowley and many more talented locals will be gracing our mainstage to bring you a day of fun and entertainment. And of course the hall will be packed full of treasures to buy and sell. Funds raised will contribute to the running expenses of Hawea Playgroup. A gold coin donation upon entry is appreciated.

On the 11th May, a motorist reported a collision with a pig on SH6 near the Queensberry Inn. A reminder for farmers to regularly check the state of their fences where they border onto public roads.

On the 13th May, Police attended at a trespass incident in the Mt Barker area, an attempted break-in at Peakview Ridge and an overdue tramper in Mt Aspiring Park. These were resolved without too much fuss - the tramper had been stranded in Mt Aspiring Hut by rising river levels.

Also on the 13th, Police attended a serious crash on Upton Street where a motorist with right-of-way was t-boned by another vehicle that travelled through the Give Way. The foreign driver was charged with Careless Driving Causing Injury and is going to Court.

On the 14th May, two drink drivers were processed in Wanaka during the evening. That makes eight this month so far. A complaint was received by Police in relation to threatening text messages, and a non-injury crash was attended on the Maungawera Hill.

On the 15th May, Police attended a non-injury crash on Mt Iron Drive where a vehicle was being driven on the wrong side of the road when it collided head-on with another vehicle. The offending foreign driver was charged with Dangerous Driving and has appeared in Court this week.

Our advice, at this stage, is to hold off upgrading to Windows 10, particularly if you are running Windows 7.
