MY COMMUNITY NEWS Serving up Tea & Zen in Hawea The Upper Clutha Community will soon have the experience of being served up Zen wisdom in the form of the ritual many of us partake in each morning, a cup of tea. Wu De, a true Chajin (tea person) and master in the ancient art of Cha Dao (the way of tea), will be gracing our community for one evening, fresh off the back of popular ceremonies at Wanderlust NZ/AUST. Wu De has been a practitioner of Cha Dao for over twenty years and he has reached over one hundred thousand people through his writings, classes, workshops, seminars and interviews.

Wu De has been teaching the practice of serving tea from the Zen and tea centre in Taiwan, known as Tea Sage Hut. At Tea Sage Hut, the mission is to promote, cultivate and express an awakening of harmony; through tea. They also seek to expand community, promote sustainable and ecological tea production and connection to ourselves, our environment and to each other through tea. They operate on a donation basis, offering wisdom served in the true spirit of tea; leaves and water shared from the heart. Wu De’s visit is made possible through the support of Mountain Spirit Retreat’s Randall & Amanda Richards. The three hour ceremony will be held on the 29th of March at 6.30pm in the majestic setting of Mountain Spirit located on the Hawea Back Road.

Hello Wanaka. It has been a noticeably busy week for us dealing with a myriad of tasks and jobs. We dealt with the trespass of a male from a local address and a local school. We assisted DOC with two protestors who objected to the 1080 drop done by DOC. Thankfully this was a peaceful protest with no issues. 7KHUH ZDV D ODUJH EXVK ¿UH DW WKH VRXWKHUQ HQG RI 'XEOLQ %D\ WKDW evacuated houses in the area. It was good spotting by the person who FDOOHG WKLV LQ WR WKH ¿UH EULJDGH RU WKHUH FRXOG KDYH EHHQ D YHU\ GLIIHUHQW result. Alpine Helicopters with monsoon buckets made good work of what could have been catastrophic. We received another complaint of theft where a shopper has withdrawn cash at New World self-checkout and the next person has pocketed the money and walked off. New World have an excellent CCTV system which is assisting that case. If it’s not yours hands off, or pass it to the staff. A male was served with a Police Safety Order and arrested two days later for breaching that order. One driver was apprehended driving against his restricted licence and two drink drivers were apprehended with one blowing more than three times the legal alcohol limit. None of those drivers had far to go and could have walked. Dumb move!! Two males were charged with assault after they attended a family re-union but just couldn’t get along. We dealt with suspicious activity in Roto Place where a male was located on a property. Another crash happened on the Cardrona Valley where a male has collided with a roadside retaining wall. Please be careful on those roads. Almost every crash I have attended in 20 years could have been easily avoided. We had a SAR callout to Treble Cone where a Paraglider pilot crashed hard, breaking his arm. He was uplifted with the assistance of a helicopter and the Alpine Cliff Rescue team. We are really climbing into those bad areas of SH6, Cardrona Valley and Crown Range roads day in and day out to keep you safe and the driving complaints still roll in all day long. Stay on your side of the road, drive to the conditions and be careful of what some other driver may be doing on the road.
