The NZ Mountain Film and Book Festival will run for the 14th year in Wanaka, 1st to 5th July at the Lake Wanaka Centre and Rippon Hall. This iconic event will host world-class speakers, filmmakers and authors who are adventurers and storytellers in their own right.

One of the world’s most accomplished big mountain skiers Chris Davenport and prominent New Zealand author Craig Potton will be headlining the festival as keynote speakers. Steve Fortune, one of New Zealand’s most highly respected mountaineers, will take the stage and Brando Yelavich a.k.a ‘Wildboy’ will speak about completing the first full circumnavigation of the New Zealand coastline.

Cardrona Ski Resort is open for business and Treble Cone opens on 23rd June, and while it still seems quiet on our roads and around town, local bars have seen an increase in patronage.

Autumn temperatures at the moment have resulted in some OK ski conditions along with reasonably good driving conditions.

The last seven days has seen a few interesting incidents brought to Police attention: On 13th June, damage to a house on Lakeside Road, Lake Hawea, was reported. The theft of a large sum of money from a bank account was also reported that day, along with damage to the 5th Green and the 8th Green and the theft of trundlers at the Wanaka Golf Course.

On 14th June, a number of theft complaints were received from owners of motor vehicles parked on McDougall Street and Riverbank Road/Cardrona Road. Some good detective work by D ORFDO LGHQWL¿HG WKH YHKLFOH WKH &KULVWFKXUFK RIIHQGHUV ZHUH driving. Four arrests were made the next day in Cromwell and a large amount of stolen property was recovered. A reminder to lock your vehicles and do not leave the keys in them when you DUH XS ZRUNLQJ RQ WKH VNL ¿HOGV On 15th June two people were apprehended stealing at New World Wanaka. After paying for the items they stole, they are QRZ WUHVSDVVHG IURP VKRSSLQJ WKHUH DQG DUH RQ D ¿QDO ZDUQLQJ from Police.

On 16th June a red/grey Bauer mountain bike was stolen from the Wanaka Lakeview Holiday Park and a patron at the Water Bar in Ardmore St was trespassed for his violent behaviour.

Remember when in licensed premises you are a guest there and you have to abide by their rules or else you have to leave when asked.

On 17th June a burglary was reported at a Westview Road address where a vehicle was tampered with. On the 18th, a window at Hairculture was found smashed from overnight.

That night Police spoke to a male driver after he crashed into a parked 4WD and trailer in Coromandel Street, and he was later processed for drink driving. His licence was suspended for 28 days.

On 19th June a local male was arrested for supplying cannabis to local youths. A motorist from the North Island was spoken to when he crashed his car into the metal bollards in Willowridge off Meadowstone Drive, causing severe damage to his rental vehicle. At 3am that morning a male working in Wanaka over the winter was arrested for disorderly behaviour at the pie window of the Doughbin Bakery. A warning that if there continues to be disorder at the pie window over the winter then the pie maker could be made redundant.

A reminder that Police will be monitoring local bars and driver behaviour over the winter season.

TOP TIP: Windows 10 – Should you update?
