This Friday 26th August, the Cancer Society will be celebrating its 26th Daffodil Day, a nation-wide, one day annual Appeal, where everyone in the community comes together to support those individuals, and families who are affected by cancer. Last year the lovely ladies out at the airport, Warbirds & Wheels Cafe, Amanda Barrow & Megan Sorensen, are shown getting into the spirit of what Daffodil Day is all about. This year, Wanaka’s wonderful volunteers will again be situated at the various tables around the township: Mitre 10, The Hammer & Nail Cafe, The Doughbin Bakery, New World, the Post Office, and Paper Plus.

On the 20th, an attempt was made to stop a local driver travelling east on Beacon Point Road, but he sped off at high speed and crashed into trees at the entrance to Penrith Park Drive. He was located nearby and taken to the Wanaka Medical Centre with moderate injuries. He later ran off from the medical centre while in custody. On Sunday the 21st, Police received a fraud report from a woman who had sent a large amount of money to an overseas internet address, but she later realised that it was a scam. Remember “if it seems too good to be true”, it is likely to be a scam! Police received another theft complaint relating to a pair of dark red K-2 skis taken from the Cardrona Ski Resort. You must keep an eye on your gear when they are not attached to your feet!
