Aspiring Beginnings presents an evening of festive inspiration with

Celia Laity Aspiring Beginnings Early Learning Centre is proud to have secured Celia Laity for an evening of festive inspiration. Held on Tuesday 8th of November at 7pm. Celia has worked as a designer for over 30 years and is well known nationally, with her work featuring in NZ House and Garden and Next magazine. Once referred to as New Zealand’s answer to Martha Stewart, Celia will spend the evening demonstrating some simple festive food recipes, as well as gift and table setting ideas. Celia’s approach is casual, affordable, achievable and fun. This is a wonderful opportunity for cooks of any skill level to gain some practical tips and techniques that will serve them well in their own kitchen, while learning new and delicious recipes and ideas.

Time to clean up Cardrona River Aimee Wilson

If you are at a loose end next weekend, then pop down to the Cardrona River behind Wastebusters for a working bee. A big clean-up has been planned for Saturday November 5, and there are even tickets to the Rhythm and Alps concert in the Cardrona Valley to be won. As highlighted recently by local media, old mattresses and other household stuff is being dumped there, so the Friends of the Cardrona River decided to do something about it. Organiser Charlotte Cretney said the working bee has the backing of the Queenstown Lakes District Council, and the Department of Conservation has also offered to pay for the disposal of the rubbish.

Young guns needed for Geezers dinner Aimee Wilson

This year’s Gathering of Geezers at Warbirds and Wheels will have a training theme, to enable future ‘young guns’ to be involved. An evening of fun and interaction with more than 25 of New Zealand’s motorsport legends is now in its 4th year, as a part fundraiser for the Upper Clutha Children’s Medical Trust. Between 300 and 350 guests get to mingle with the motorsport legends, covering many disciplines from rally saloon, jet boats, drag racing, speedway and bikes.

But even more exciting is that organisers of Rhythm and Alps have decided to offer six free tickets to people who offer at least six hours of their time to picking up rubbish. Charlotte said the problem appeared to be both locals and visitors who have been contributing to the mess. The couple and their young family returned from overseas three years ago after spending several years in Australia’s Hunter Valley. Gavin has brought back to New Zealand a wealth of experience and knowledge, which is backed up by an extensive network of other professionals. Labour Weekend has just gone, the Perfect Woman has been found, and ‘clowns’ have been mentioned in the media for a couple of reasons. Here is a summary of recent incidents attended by local Police: On 19th October, Police attended at a Mt Barker address where an arborist was hit on the head by a falling branch. Fortunately he was wearing a safety helmet and this has prevented serious injury. On 20th October, Police were advised by a father of an Albert Town 6yr old, that his son was offered a ride home by a male driving a red van in the Quinnat St area. The boy declined the offer and the red van drove off. Perhaps an innocent offer of a ride, but those good messages learnt at school are important. On the 21st, we attended a motor accident at the SH 6 & Aubrey Road intersection, that resulted in minor injury and moderate damage to both vehicles. A slip blocking one lane on SH6 near Meads Road was reported on 22nd October and Police coned the slip off until the contractor arrived to clear it up. On the 24th, Management at a local hotel spied a staff member placing a mattress topper beside her car near the resort. She was dismissed for the attempted theft. Overall it has been a safe holiday weekend on Wanaka roads, with only one report of a non injury crash. - Although there was a vehicle roll over on the Queenstown side of the Crown Range. Generally motorists abided by the 4kph tolerance, but a few notices were issued for speed in and around Wanaka. $ UHPLQGHU WKDW WKH RI¿FLDO RSHQLQJ RI WKH QHZ :DQDND )LUH Station is on 12th November, and NZ Bookshop Day is on Saturday 29th October.
