Dine by Donation, Meredith’s brain child, has supported many of New Zealand charities over the years, with the entire proceeds from all food served in the restaurant for the evening, going to charity. Lucas will run this event at ODE in Wanaka on 4 April, and will collaborate with Meredith in a one night only event that sees all proceeds from the evenings meals being donated to local youth organization, Kahu Youth Trust. The event has already sold out, with two seating’s booking out in less than 12 hours. Parkinson has been working with predominantly local suppliers since opening ODE in Post Office Lane, mid 2017, and they are all jumping on board for the event, donating an incredible selection of local produce. Over two nights Sarah explained the latest evidence on how our children’s brain develops. The highlights will shortly feature as mini film clip on the WAG Facebook page and the Mt. Aspiring College website, including guides to the use of technology, alcohol and drugs. One of Sarah’s most interesting tips was on ‘serve and return’ interaction with children

and teenagers. ‘Serve and return’ is like a game of tennis where a child can make a gesture, for example, point up to a light (the ‘serve’) and then the adult responds (the ‘return’). This acknowledges your child and encourages communication and building of relationships. Another valuable message for parents was to: “try and get it mostly right most of the time� which sets a realistic bench mark for all. Research showed neuronal activity in late

childhood and adolescence is linked to risk taking and impulsive, emotional behaviours typical of teenagers. This connected to many in the audience and offered comfort to those parents trying to navigate their teenager’s emotions and decision making. Further education initiatives by the Wanaka Alcohol Group are planned, endeavouring to support the community in making positive choices for healthy lifestyles.
