Relay for life. Who will you relay for? The Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago Relay For Life is being held again this year at the Cromwell Racecourse, Ord Road, Cromwell. The event starts at 3pm on Saturday 2 April and finishes 10am on Sunday 3rd. Organiser Neroli McRae says “this year’s event promises to be very special with great entertainment and lots of fun activities for the whole family”. It is a wonderful event with a great atmosphere and we are estimating 1,000 people will be here for this great community event in support of people affected by cancer”. A non-competitive event, teams of 10 or more
register to take turns walking through the night, symbolising that cancer never sleeps.

The Cancer Society spent more than $300,000 last year to provide its free services and programmes to local people who have received a cancer diagnosis and in support of their families. All proceeds and fundraising from the Cromwell Relay For Life stay locally to help pay for the work the Cancer Society does. Some good and some bad this week with a variety of incidents attended by Wanaka Police over the last seven days. A French tourist left her bags with some strangers at Raspberry )ODW RQ WKH QG )HEUXDU\ RQO\ WR UHWXUQ IURP KHU ZDON DQG ¿QG their vehicle gone along with her bags. Fortunately a DOC worker has found her bags in the bushes and handed them into Police, in turn returning them to the owner who was much relieved. There are still incidents of tagging in the local toilet blocks. Anyone witnessing this is asked to contact Wanaka Police so that we can put a stop to it. On 24th February, the driver of a vehicle which crashed at Makarora was processed for drink driving. On 25th February, a Christchurch man was arrested for a domestic assault and failing to appear in the Christchurch District Court. On 27th February, a local man was dealt with in relation to a domestic incident. That same day Police attended a serious injury motor accident on Motutapu Road where two occupants ended up in hospital. Then a second vehicle crash on Mt Aspiring Road was attended where the occupants walked away unharmed. In both crashes, driving ability on gravel roads was lacking. An iPad was also reported stolen from a vehicle. This is a good reminder to lock your doors and not leave any valuable items in your vehicle. On 28th February a local man was arrested for assault after an issue with the music being played by his neighbour. Maybe ABBA is not such a good choice! With the Motatapu race this Saturday 5th March and the Wanaka A & P Show next Friday and Saturday the 11th and 12th March we can expect a big couple of weekends ahead. TOP TIP: Windows 10 – Should you update? Our advice, at this stage, is to hold off upgrading to Windows 10, particularly if you are running Windows 7.
