6.30 - 10.00 pm | 18 June 2017 @ Lake Wanaka Centre Wanaka Ski and Snowsports Club has facilitated an opportunity for you to hear NZ’s outstanding snowsports athletes share their stories and help you understand their passion, and what life on the road chasing snowsports success is like. The night will also give you a chance to view some outstanding footage from the season. Imagine a type of Ted X with a snowsports tag line!

Local teen snowboarder Zoi Sadowski–Synnott and freeskier Finn Bilous are just two of the snowsports athletes who have possibly staked their claim to the 2018 Winter Olympic selection. Breakout seasons appeared almost common this Northern Hemisphere season as our snowsports athletes

strived to reach their best performances. Albert Town’s Freeride World Tour athlete Sam Lee enjoyed a stunning first season on the tour; Zoi medalled just after her 16th birthday in a Snowboard World Cup; Jamie Prebble from Christchurch medalled in the World Champs Skier X, a first for NZ; Corey Peters won silver in the World Para Alpine Championships; and Adam Barwood’s medalled in the Alpine World Champs qualifier – just a few of the night’s featured athletes.

With athletes travelling from around NZ to share their stories, all snowsports disciplines will be represented at the event. A short live auction will help raise funds for snowsports athletes. With a gold coin donation entry, a bar and finger food available, this event at the Lake Wanaka Centre at 6.30pm on the 18th June is not to be missed! A Community House is a place that will provide a purpose built facility for community services.

The services will range from Community Networks and all the fantastic services that they provide as well as counsellors, community advice and support. There will also be room for music groups, arts and cultural groups as well as church events such as weddings and funerals.

The Trust’s Building Committee is working with Condon Scott Architects to ensure that the building’s detailed design is in line with what many community groups have stipulated

that they need. Details such as multiple power points in the meeting rooms for lots of sewing machines for quilters and arts groups; sufficient storage for music gear to have a music hub and rooms with sound proofing for confidential appointments.

Fundraising with Charitable Trusts is underway and we are delighted that the Sargood Bequest are supporting the facility. Over the last year we have received $100,000 towards the resource consent costs and for the communal reception area. Other applications are currently underway for funding from other local community trusts.
