Based in Wanaka, Prime Timers is an essential service that provides support, travel, and friendship for all members. “Prime Timers is a great way to meet people. MY COMMUNITY NEWS At the Peak of Pink Come together this May with your girlfriends and loved ones for a special Pink Ribbon Breakfast and a morning of fun! The breakfast is on Friday 12th May from 9-11am at Peak Functions in Upton Street, who are very generously supporting this event as a fundraiser for breast cancer. Event organisers Anna Laming and Jane Sharman have a passion for community events and decided that holding a Pink Ribbon Breakfast was a great opportunity to combine forces to create a fun and memorable event with a valuable outcome. “Our event is a celebration of strong women in our community, honouring those who have suffered breast cancer and showing united support for those who have a breast cancer story” said Anna. All proceeds from this event will go to the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, helping to fund lifesaving breast cancer research and clinical trials, and to support people with breast cancer. Jane is excited about the programme they have lined up for the event: “Wanaka is full of amazing and talented women so this is a chance to bring some of them together for a very worthy cause.” Special guests include Dr Fiona MacLean of Aspiring Medical Centre, award-winning singer/song-writer Anna van Riel and local Fashion Stylist Trudie Millar. Gloria’s Handbag at Lake Hawea Community Centre This solo play starring Helen Moulder and directed by Sue Rider is a modern, magical mystery with music from The Magic Flute. Bought to Lake Hawea Community Centre by Arts on Tour, this is the first time LHCC has hosted a theatre production of this calibre. LHCC has paid the debt from major renovations however as a fully community run and funded centre the LHCC must continue to fundraise the ongoing operating costs. So come support the community centre, and bring your friends for a great night of entertainment. “It’s imperative to have a good handbag when you’re on the way out.” It is 2021 in Nelson and Gloria, aged 97, hasn’t long to live. Her son Craig is pushing her to move to a “retireville” but she wants to die in her own home. On a whim, Gloria buys an extraordinary designer handbag. This purchase sets off a series of unusual events which transform Gloria’s remaining days and enable her to send a message to the future. This performance will appeal to theatre audiences of all ages 12+.
