Flora Fantastic For Festival Of Colour

In conjunction with the Festival of Colour the Lakes District Floral Art Club is presenting a floral extravaganza over the duration of the Festival with the main feature being an exhibition of exciting creations from beautiful flowers and plant materials using the latest modern design techniques.

You will find this wonderful exhibition in the Meeting Room of the Wanaka Hotel which will be open from Thursday 23 April to Saturday 25th April 10am to 4pm. (Door charge $5) The Opening Night and Exhibition Preview is on Wednesday at 7pm (by invitation).

The highlight of this Floral Extravaganza will be an inspirational demonstration by Francine Thomas, a leading floral designer from the Bay of Plenty area who is passionate, vivacious, and wildly enthusiastic about flowers. Francine will be showcasing her innovative designing techniques in an entertaining and stimulating presentation. This will be held on Friday 24th April in the Beanie Café at 7.30pm.

The town and our local roads and highways are still busy as we move into March and Police have been respectively busy over the week.

Here's a rundown of the week that was...

Police made 5 arrests over the week including two for shoplifting at New World and another two for dangerous driving.

An intoxicated male was also arrested early on Saturday for wilful damage after he broke a window at a local backpackers.

Another two drink drivers were apprehended by Police over the week, one on Helwick St and the other in town on SH84, the latter being nearly twice the limit.

We also attended two crashes over the week, one on SH6 near Luggate involving a vehicle crossing the centre line and clipping another resulting in a rollover. Amazingly no one suffered serious injuries.

In other matters Police also dealt with a domestic incident last Wednesday morning and are currently investigating two separate assaults at local bars.

Police also dealt with 3 search and rescue events over the week including one on the Hawea River. All were dealt with successfully and our thanks go to our SAR volunteers, and in the case of our fast water rescue call, the quick response from our local Harbour Master Craig Blake and the Lakeland Adventures jet boat and their crew.

Currently our local Wanaka Community Patrol are looking for more volunteers to help out. The patrol works with local Wanaka Police in a prevention role and are out there on Friday and Saturday nights with their "eyes and ears" on alerting Police to any crime and disorder issues in our local communities. They do a great job and if you are interested please contact me at the Wanaka Police Station or see Steve at the Kodak shop for more information.

The Upper Clutha Branch of NZ Deerstalkers Association would like to locate trophy game heads that have been shot locally in the Wanaka/Hawea area, and by making an inventory of them, ensuring they donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t disappear forever.

We are particularly interested in any red deer, fallow deer, tahr and chamois trophies that have been shot locally from the present day back to the â&#x20AC;&#x153;golden daysâ&#x20AC;? of stalking.

The heads would be photographed, measured and details of their history, ownership and location recorded.

The information will be provided to the National Association for listing in its archives and record books and would ensure that these trophies are not lost to history.
