MY COMMUNITY NEWS _bѴ7 o0bѴb| o m7-ঞom ļ)-Ѵh =ou b7vĽ The Lions Clubs NZ Child Mobility Foundation has asked clubs to organise a fundraising walk that commences at 10.00am on Sunday 8 October 2017 in Wanaka. The walk starts opposite the corner of McDougall Street and Aspiring Road before walkers will make their way to the Dinosaur Park. Come along and make it a fun walk - there will be prizes up for grabs for the best fancy dressed group. CMF’s goal is to have a ‘Walk for Kids’ covering the equivalent of the distance from Cape Reinga to Stewart Island at the same time. The Lions Clubs New Zealand Child Mobility Foundation supports children who suffer from disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy and Spina Bifida. These conditions cause limited mobility, such as being unable to balance the body, unable to sit or walk, or having difficulties moving arms and hands. Every day life is a challenge for these children, even the simple, day-to-day activities such as

eating, brushing teeth or going to the toilet are not possible without support. To make life easier for these children, CMF offers them support by coordinating the supply and maintenance of devices like the Hart Walker. The difference a Hart Walker makes in the life of a child with cerebral palsy can hardly be imagined. They are transformed from dependent to independent in a flash; from a life spent mainly indoors to something more closely resembling a ‘normal’ childhood. They are given the chance to play with their siblings and friends, to take part in sports activities and to experience hands-free walking. Our support helps the children to increase selfesteem and social belonging, the base for living a happy life. This foundation relies solely on the support of Lions Clubs and voluntary donations.
