Join Wanaka Rotary at Edgewater with the Trapeze Quintet, Friday 14th October at 7pm. A limited number of tickets are available through Video Ezy and are $35 per person. This is a fundraiser for the people of the Pacific, to help mitigate the trauma of the all too frequent natural disasters that occur in the area.

Rotary New Zealand supplied 1000 Emergency Response Kits and 50 water purifiers immediately following the disaster. Since then it has supported and continues to support partner agencies with funding by providing school equipment, medical supplies and building materials.

When there is a natural disaster Rotary New Zealand responds rapidly. It first conducts a needs assessment, then within hours or days, and working with in-country partners and Rotary clubs, distributes Emergency Response Kits.

Emergency Response Kits cost $600. With a kit and a little ingenuity, a family is able to construct a basic shelter, clothe themselves and have food for several days.

As an example, Cyclone Pam, Vanuatu, March 2015, the powerful tropical cyclone which reached speeds of 250 km per hour, tore through Vanuatu killing 11 people and injuring many more. It destroyed and damaged buildings and homes, food crops, livelihoods and infrastructure.

Recently taking over the former Central Otago Linen Services business, based in Wanaka, they now spend their days washing and ironing sheets for the local accommodation and hospitality

industry. :LWK D QHZ QDPH D VLJQLÂżFDQW investment in new technology, and a total upgrade of its linen and services, The Good Laundry Company is now churning out business 8-10 hours a day. Having bought the assets from the former linen company and the Anderson Road premises, they want to reassure their clients they are here for the long term.

â&#x20AC;&#x153;We think itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s really exciting and a lot of people in the tourism industry like that we are looking at things from outside the box we have no baggage,â&#x20AC;? Marcus said. The former Dunedinite who has been coming to Wanaka since 1963, pioneered ski shops and other retail, before heading to the UK to sell ski gear over there. â&#x20AC;&#x153;I came from selling top ski gear in Fulham & Chelsea to doing laundry and this is more exciting,â&#x20AC;? he said. Paul grew up in Wellington and spent 28 years as a banker in Hong Kong before deciding it was time to return and join his wife and teenage kids who had returned to New Zealand some time earlier for their secondary and tertiary education. Once securing the business the pair spent three months talking to potential clients about what they wanted, and molding the product

Clients include mostly property management companies looking after bed and breakfast, holiday rental accommodation, apartments and chalets. As well as providing a linen service, commercial clients have the option of bringing their own laundry directly to the premises to cut time and costs associated with guest linen requirements.

This week it was Treble Cone Closing Day, not much of a day weather-wise, but a fun day hopefully followed up by a fun closing party. The week started on the 26th with some sheep out on Cardrona Valley Road. I managed to get them through a gate ZLWK WKH KHOS RI WKH VNL WUDI¿F ZKLFK VWRSSHG XQWLO WKH\ ZHUH out of the way. On the 27th a vehicle travelling into Wanaka from Lake Hawea collided with a deer which attempted to enter the vehicle via the windscreen. A huge fright for the driver and the deer was not located. A domestic incident was attended the same day, again the precursor being alcohol. Sensible conversations do not happen when one or both people involved are intoxicated. On the 30th, Police received a complaint of a vehicle driven through/over/around a stop sign on the corner of Reece Crescent and a pile of debris was located. A red sedan somewhere in town will have some frontal damage as a result. Also on the 30th Police attended a non-injury vehicle crash on the corner of Old Station Road and Aubrey Road. That evening a local man was processed for Drink Driving. He will be visiting the Queenstown Court and explaining his actions to the judge. On the 1st of October a local man was warned in relation to breaching his bail conditions and was fortunate to avoid spending the weekend in the Queenstown Police cells. On the 2nd of October we received a complaint of theft of a white Toyota Hilux rego AZF135. Any sightings of this vehicle please call 111 and report it. Later that same night the Police and Land SAR responded to a male with medical problems in the Timaru River Valley.
