KIWI KITE SURFERS TAKE PART IN MONGOL RALLY Wanaka locals entering the Mongol Rally to raise money for the Upper Clutha Children's Medical Trust.

Darryl Sherwin and Leon Ford (Dazza and Leon) are about to embark on the race of a lifetime. The Mongol Rally is a car rally from Goodwood Motor Circuit in England through to Ulan Ude in Russia and runs from the 17th July to the 26th August! The route will take them through 18 countries, 3 mountain ranges, endless kilometres of desert, at least 28 tanks of gas and innumerable pot holes!

Dazza and Leon have a Suzuki Jimney for the race that Sign Depot Wanaka have sponsored the awesome graphics for.

They are raising money for the Upper Clutha Children’s Medical Trust which is a Wanaka based

Charitable Trust, established in 2009 to support families in the Upper Clutha area who are struggling financially because of the demands placed upon them by their children’s health issues.

Dazza and Leon originally met 15 years ago while both worked on the Westpac Rescue Helicopter in Auckland as a pilot and crewman respectively.

Both Leon and Dazza are avid kite boarders and if this journey of 14,000kms wasn’t epic enough they have added to the challenge by trying to kiteboard as many waterways as possible.

This week has been fairly quiet on the policing front.

Here is a snap shot of some of the jobs we attended: On Monday morning Ambulance and Police were called to an unresponsive male in Lismore Park. He had to be admitted to Dunstan hospital for observation. Unfortunately this is not an uncommon occurrence in Wanaka. If anyone has a friend or relative struggling with the use of drugs and alcohol, ask if you can help.

A person reported they were $700 dollars out of pocket after trying to purchase a mobile telephone via social media. They were contacted directly after placing their contact telephone number on display. Be very wary of putting any money directly into anyone’s account, unless you have the product or can track the purchase through a reliable online company.

On Wednesday night an intoxicated male was asked to leave a local bar by staff. He refused and was subsequently arrested when Police arrived. His behaviour didn’t improve much from that point on and he wasted a lot of police time.
