FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Come one, come all! Wanaka Primary PTA are hosting our new school gala ‘Friday Night Lights’ on Friday 8th September from 5.30pm-8pm. Our entertainment extravaganza will be held in the Wanaka Primary school hall and Pod 7 with a marquee joining the two buildings, so the weather will not be a concern. There is something for everyone, be entertained by our school talent while you browse our market stalls (you can even pick up your ‘Stars in Your Eyes’ tickets along with your ‘Duck’ for the Rotary Duck Race). Take part in making glowing creations such as Mandala art and string weaving to adorn our ‘glow in the dark’ rooms. Wander through the marquee of food stalls (Spice Room Butter Chicken, Pork Carnitas soft tacos, beef or vege nachos, noodles, sausages and bacon butties), delicious home baking, the coffee cart and Menlove Berries ice creams. In Pod 7

you will have the opportunity to make a silhouette puppet and put on a show. Also in the hall there will be the ‘Cheeky Fox Photo Booth’, the ‘glow stick’ stall and glow in the dark face painting. Be ready to be wowed by our ‘Light Up the Stage – Illumination Creation Parade’ (entries welcome on the night - just come with your outfit ready to model at 7pm, it can glow or light up or both! You’re in to win a prize for 1st, 2nd or 3rd), move outside the hall to watch Flair with her fire poi display in the staff car park at 7.30pm and then we are ending the night with a bang at 7.45pm – you’ll have your eyes to the sky for this exciting finale! All children must be accompanied by a supervising adult. We strongly encourage tonnes of fun and many smiles and look forward to seeing you there!

Nikki is a clinical and functional naturopath. She delves deep into the inner workings of your body with a holistic investigative approach and treats naturally to help you feel amazing and healthy. Merryn has experienced life as a pro-athlete and teacher. She now gets her kick out of helping others achieve their physical feats no matter how big or small. Lisa has a passion for all things

pelvic floor. Her mission is to normalise talk around pelvic floor dysfunction and create awareness that effective treatment is available. Our final speaker, Jin, is an osteopath with a strong interest in the mind-body connection and how our past and current emotional experiences can impact our physical health, manifesting as pain, injury and disease.

A granddaughter tells her grandfather’s story The Lake Hawea Community Centre will be hosting Jan Bolwell’s ‘Bill Massey’s Tourists’ at 8.00pm on Friday 15th September. Touring nationally, Consummate performer Jan Bolwell plays her adolescent self, encouraging her grandfather Arthur to talk about the First World War.

What follows is a gripping, painful and sometimes hilarious tale of a young Kiwi soldier from the Otago Mounted Rifles (one of Bill Massey’s tourists) and his survival from the tragedy of Passchendaele. It is a story that also features song and dance.

This week has included the good, the bad and the ugly, in what has been an interesting week for local Police in Wanaka: THE GOOD - Audi Winter Games continues to highlight the amazing talent that have come together from around the planet. Great to see the coverage is due on the big screen. ‘Operation Lift’ returned a big zero for drink driving on Friday and Saturday night, THE BAD - A steady stream of crime and disorder in and around our beautiful town. THE UGLY - How a few people in town resort to violence when they have been drinking alcohol: Police received complaints of a vehicle crash outside the Lake Bar, the theft of furniture from a storage unit in town and the theft of a motor vehicle from an Albert Town address. An overseas visitor reported her GoPro camera stolen from her room at a Brownston Street backpackers, and a local male was charged with the theft of a motor vehicle. Police received two complaints relating to the theft of ski equipment from the Cardrona Ski Resort. On the same day, a Cromwell resident was charged with a serious assault that took place last week at the rear of the Wanaka BP where the victim was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital with head injuries. On 3rd September, Police attended an early morning assault opposite the Lake Wanaka Centre where a male was assaulted. A Christchurch driver was processed for drink-driving at 9am in the morning, and a Dunedin male was dealt with for breaching his bail. The Wanaka Community Patrol continue to be a huge help on the busy weekend evenings, and a big thanks go out to all those involved.
