A masquerade ball raising funds for the Wanaka Trampoline and Tumbling Club is shaping up to be Wanaka’s most glamorous event of the year. Held on 18 August, the event promises to be a special evening of fun organised by the club’s very own Petra Smejkalova. When Petra joined the trampoline club and learned of its efforts to fundraise she decided to plough her infectious enthusiasm into helping. For her, the obvious choice was a grand winter masquerade ball – just like the ones she organised in her own country, the Czech Republic. Petra says, ”It’s going to be big and it’s going to be fun. There will be food, drink, entertainment, dancing and so much more! Make sure you look out for the posters and listen out for the announcements on the radio!” It’s promised that the ball, which is taking place at the Lake Wanaka Centre, will feature live music, a disco and food. Guests will be able to book a table to share with

friends and there will be bubbly for everyone (over 18) and a massive raffle on the night. Wanaka Trampoline and Tumbling Club was formed to enable children and adults to compete at regional and national events which are held under the Gymnastics NZ umbrella. However, its long term plan is to provide trampoline, tumbling and freestyle gymsports classes for anyone who would like to learn – whether for recreation or competition. The club is anxious to provide quality coaching for the local community which will ultimately be at its own facility. Dress code is formal dress/costume & mask (masks will be available on the night). Tickets are available on Eventfinda and cost $75 with a meal and a glass of bubbles included. Private tables are also available. This work includes trapping and veterinary care, as well as fostering until the cats are ready for a family of their own. To mark the launch of this new charity, Cat Rescue Wanaka (CRW) are holding an Adoption and Drop In Info Day. This is a chance for the public to find out more about what they do and how they do it. There will be cats available for adoption and a photo board displaying the â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;happily ever afterâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; stories. Volunteers will be available for those who

want to find out more information about fostering or other ways to support the group. Children can take part in a colouring-in competition, have their face painted, or relax with a book in the kidsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; corner. This day is also being used as an opportunity to do some much needed fundraising, with food and vet bills expected to run into the hundreds each month. Take along some change for a cuppa and a bikkie, a raffle ticket, and their other items for sale. Hello everyone, so we are getting to where the longer warmer days will take over and the heat in the sun will be able to dry the washing and grow the vegies. The week started with a Search and Rescue rescue call out that became a worldwide story. Ultimately the incident had a great outcome, with the climber concerned being air lifted off the mountain with minor injuries. Many people are involved in these types of rescues, and a big thank you goes out to the dedicated SAR members, helicopter pilots, and all the others that put in some long arduous hours in order to bring this person safely back to his loved ones. A Scott mountain bike was taken from the rear of Francesca’s restaurant last Tuesday night. A ski worker was assaulted in a local bar on Wednesday. CCTV footage is being viewed. Perhaps the offender can save the embarrassment of having his friends and employers asked questions on who the person is on the mug shot, and turn himself in. A 3 month suspension was given out to a local person for having too many demerit points. You can check your points with NZTA. (100 or greater points gathered in a 2 year period will result in a licence suspension) A male has been going to Mitre10 and taking items. Staff have a good record of what needs to be paid for. A checkpoint for alcohol was conducted on Wanaka - Mt Aspiring Road on Sunday morning, this saw about 37 drivers tested. Two things came out of this. Firstly, many drivers are exceeding the speed limit as you leave town, and secondly, the alcohol you consume the night before can still be in your system the following morning. For those of you planning to go ‘out on the town’, the bar that you go into has staff who are required to monitor your intoxication levels. It is illegal for them to serve you if you are drunk. Don’t become the one that staff have to remove. They are not your parents. Please remember that alcohol changes your thought processes (not often for the better). It does not make you a race car driver or astronaut - as much as you might like to think it does. On Sunday night a car was taken by an opportunist thief from outside an address in town. It was recovered a short time later in the suburbs. A reminder to all not to leave the skiing equipment and expensive stuff on, or in easy view inside your vehicles. Lock your vehicle. The importance of having a consistent visual identity Do you find it hard to get your ads or marketing material to look consistent? Is your designer not giving you the design you want? Is your print collateral looking mismatched and confused from one leaflet to the next? The solution is as simple as having a visual style or brand guideline. At Print It and the Messenger, we are often asked to make ads and marketing material for businesses, but are not supplied with any other brand information apart from a logo. This leaves important factors such as fonts, colours and style open to interpretation. Our Senior Graphic Designer Jen Clarke recommends that every business has, as a minimum, a one page style guideline outlining proper logo size and placement, typefaces and colour palette. This should be provided at the outset along with the brief to anyone who is designing something for your business, whether it be something that is outsourced to a designer or created in-house. Larger companies are advised to have a more comprehensive brand guideline document which, along with logo usage, typefaces and colours, defines the brand’s ethos, includes examples of how print collateral should be designed and outlines how any other design elements should be used.
