A signature font with a dancing baseline that will give your text a beautiful calligraphic look, this has some fine lines, which means special effects are not ideal. Best when kept simple and used on nice stock paper, it is great for titles, quotes, or to add a sensual touch to your theme. Pair with a simple sans serif font for differentiation and emphasis.

rides-to-be tend to find themselves in this common dilemma when planning their wedding: to keep things classic and
risk verging on ‘boring’ and ‘predictable’, or spice things up with a contemporary look and risk having a look that dates? What’s chic and contemporary these days is a balance of the two, such as dried wildflowers set against sleek lines and modern tablescapes, warm wooden textures juxtaposed against steely cool structures, and a palette of earthy tones with subtle gilded touches. Above all, sustainability is important – most of the décor can be repurposed by the newlyweds for their new home.

forest greens+textures From wispy willows to bright Monstera leaves, this wedding had a huge focus on lush greenery, including plants of all kinds and brightly coloured flowers. Juxtaposed against the vibrant colours were a variety of textures such as steel fixtures, high ceilings, unfinished cement walls and warm wooden elements. Decorated with myriad vintage touches, this was a cosy space indeed for the bridal couple to celebrate their nuptials, and the twinkling lights and sparklers only served to create an extra dreamy atmosphere.

CEREMONY Keeping it somewhat casual but still romantic, the bride wore a wedding gown with intricate lace details, an open back, sheer sleeves and an elaborate tulle skirt. By her side was her new husband, who looked very handsome in his chocolate-coloured suit. The couple exchanged vows in front of 85 of their closest family and friends, against the backdrop of a double triangle “arch”. We love how she opted for a full eucalyptus bunch as her bridal bouquet – fitting in with the theme of the wedding.

RECEPTION Seated at long tables, the guests wined and dined, gave toasts, and generally celebrated the happy couple with much joy and laughter. Food was served buffet style, and there was a wedding cake, of course – a delicious concoction topped with sweet figurines of a moose and giraffe. The entire affair felt like one big family dinner, which was just what the newlyweds wanted. What a cosy and lovely soiree!

geometrics+lush florals Having a small and intimate soiree did not stop these newlyweds from going completely glamorous and elegant for their nuptials. The lush white flowers and greenery, punctuated with dreamy wildflowers, combined beautifully with the warm textures of rattan and wood at the venue. Subtle gilded elements provided the perfect touch, as did the geometric features found in the décor, from the ceremony arch to the reception tablescape. Zia Wen: “I would sum up our theme as ‘understated luxury’. Our tastes are usually quite simple, but we wanted an intimate yet elegant celebration with our nearest and dearest.”

Tanarimba, Janda Baik, Pahang It’s not hard to see why Tanarimba is fast becoming a favourite wedding destination for those looking to get married outside of Kuala Lumpur, it ticks all the boxes for perfect wedding venue. Exposed wooden textures? Check. Wide open space that’s ideal for a wedding ceremony? Check. A beautiful hall for the reception? Check! Situated over a thousand feet above sea level, set in the foothills of a mountain range, the weather there is distinctly cooler than the usual heat and humidity of Malaysia’s tropical climate. At just 35km from Kuala Lumpur, it’s still easily accessible for the bridal couple and their guests alike, with the added bonus of being surrounded by nature.

CEREMONY Saying “I do” to each other against a backdrop of dried pampas grass, palm leaves paired with muted florals, and pops of orange seems to be one of the hottest outdoor wedding trends at the moment. Here, the bridesmaids’ mix and match chiffon dresses in similar dusty nude shades were a nice touch, and softened the whole look. Standing before their 210 guests, the newlyweds looked absolutely resplendent as they exchanged heartfelt vows. The bride was gorgeous in her soft lace gown, while the groom looked very dapper in his classic suit. Together with their beautiful surroundings, it could have been a page right out of a fairytale.

RECEPTION The same look and feel flowed right through to the dinner reception, with the subtle addition of darker green foliage and floral elements in shades of red. It was a wise choice, too, as this made the décor stand out more in photographs captured in the evening lighting. The newlyweds were so thoughtful when it came to the celebration of their union that they also personally curated the music that was played at the reception. It was one of the ways they chose to show their gratitude to their guests for making the trip out to celebrate their wedding with them. Charlie: “One of the main goals of our wedding was to make it the most epic and fun wedding reception our guests had ever attended.”

CONCEPT

s a filmmaker himself, Josh was already familiar with setting up sets, but he didn’t need to use those skills for this. He and his partner, a quirky couple if we ever met one, found the
perfect canvas upon which to create their bridal portraits, thanks to a savvy recommendation by their brilliant photographer, Heartpatrick. We love how the couple wore all black to blend in with the setting, thus allowing the 2D illustrations to do their magic. What a fun place to get your bridal portraits taken, while you sip a bubble milk tea! We speak to Heartpatrick for more details. What are the couple’s occupations, and how did they meet? Josh is a filmmaker and XJ is a Masters student in pharmaceutical research. They met at a café. Is that why you suggested this venue? It was an up and coming Instagram hotspot at the time. Do you know what inspired the concept behind this shop? It was inspired by a café in South Korea that has a similar concept.

Check out that oversized jacket with lace details on the hem and sleeves. When it comes to your LWD, look for details that will elevate the look, such as an eye-catching keyhole back, intricate beadwork or 3D floral appliques. There is no better time to jump onto this bandwagon, and the best part is you are not restricted to just bridal designers. Even better, you’ll be able to wear your dress again after the wedding. If a full-length dress is what you are after, we highly recommend the minimalist look. Find the right dress that accentuates your best asset, and go modest with the rest. A V-neck design with a thigh-high slit exudes effortless glam, while Lela Rose’s layered pearl off-the-shoulder column dress is simply chic! Add a cape for texture or cinch your waist with a slim metallic belt or embellished sash, and you just might get away with not accessorising. It’s the sort of elegant simplicity that will ensure all eyes are on you. MONIQUE LHUILLIER / JOLIE BRIDAL / DAALARNA COUTURE / LELA ROSE / ALEXANDRA GRECCO

The first time we came across Joshua’s work, we fell in love with how beautifully he captured the chemistry between a couple, photographed in just a simple setting with natural lighting. For Joshua, his interest in photography was sparked way back when he was just 12 years old and taking his very first set of photos. As an adult, he was often inspired and humbled by the people he met and their stories, which eventually led to him leaving his job as an illustrator to pursue a photography career.

Who inspires your photography work? Jose Villa and Hideaki Hamada. Do you like to do bridal portraits, actual wedding day photos, or styled shoots? I like bridal portraits because what makes the photos awesome is the connection between the couple. Love not only makes the photo beautiful but also shows that when two hearts are connected, it is meaningful! I like weddings, as I love to photograph simple, genuine moments that tell the story of you, just as you are. I strive to capture heartfelt photographs that are emotionally honest, and that you will look back on fondly in the years to come. Of course, I love styled shoots too.
