intro The intimacy of this small wedding was made even more precious by the romantic destination – Positano, Italy. The bridal couple and their guests were certainly treated to Mother Nature’s spoils, but what took centre stage was the joy and love that everyone had for each other! We especially liked the small lemon plants that served as table centrepieces, and that lush floral arch.

MunKeat Photography: “Positano is one of my dream destinations, and it helped that this was a lovely couple and family. It was such a beautiful wedding, truly like a fairy-tale. I had a lot of first-time experiences, shooting alongside the famous photographer Tali, from Europe. The couple had hired two extra photography teams. Due to bad weather and a change of plans, I also had to hike for 35 minutes and climbed countless flights of stairs with all my photography gear to get to the restaurant.”

This bride and groom took full advantage of the gorgeous beach backdrop by keeping their colour palette neutral, sticking with white florals and lush greenery. The bridesmaids wore shades of burnt orange, red and yellow, adding vibrant pops of colour to the celebration, and the bride and groom exchanged their vows before a pretty circle made of wheat stalks and leaves.

The concept was simple: spend a stress-free day celebrating with friends and family, and party hard! Everything else was built around that one intention at this beautiful location. “I’d be happy to see more intimate weddings, where only close family and friends are invited, and emotions take priority over social protocol. Because of the increased demand for smaller weddings these days, I foresee a wider range of wedding venues. I can’t wait to experience some of these creative venue choices.”

i ntr o This simple beach ceremony, officiated by close friends and with a very intimate guestlist, made for the most gorgeous wedding. Set against the ocean and blue skies, the bride and groom infused their celebration with so much of their free-spirited personalities and joie de vivre. From their wedding outfits and that cool arch to the bonfire-lighting ceremony to mark their exchange of vows, everything about this was unconventional. What a wedding! e c o- f r i e n d l y Funkydali: “The pandemic has given couples a chance to plan intimate weddings, which is challenging because culturally in Southeast Asia, we’re used to bigger celebrations. But we are definitely seeing more of these in the coming years. Personally, we’re hoping to see more open-space weddings. We’ve had outdoor wedding ceremonies but most of the time, the reception is held indoors. Couples should perhaps consider planning a creative outdoor wedding - picking a date in the good weather season, finding a suitable venue, and making it a festival-themed celebration!” On this unique wedding: “AP and Jess have such big hearts in everything they do. They were reminding everyone to celebrate responsibly in Bira, including protecting the coral and shorelines, and minimising plastic packaging and waste. Everything in their wedding was locally sourced, and guests were reminded to only wear reef-safe sunscreen.”

intro Most traditional weddings tend to be very big affairs, which is understandable. After all, the marriage of two individuals should be celebrated, and as the saying goes, the more the merrier, right? Not anymore. These days, it’s more about the bridal couple and their closest family and friends. This wedding was classically perfect in so many ways, from the exquisite lace on the bride’s gown and veil to the groom’s navy suit. We also love the bridesmaids’ batik skirts and the groomsmen’s printed shirts. The décor was kept understated and modern, with red and white flowers and a simple bench for the dais, all bathed in gorgeous sunlight.

intro An interracial wedding is more than a bringing together of two families, it is also a blend of two cultures. It’s always interesting to see how brides and grooms do this, and we love how this couple paid homage to their respective heritage. Set against a sparkly backdrop of white and gold, red was the defining shade here, along with unique touches such as fairy lights, an abundance of flowers and colours, and wooden accents. What a textural delight!

It was such an experience to have been a part of this day, which was filled with varying cultures and traditions. This is one of the amazing perks of being a photographer here in our little corner of Asia.” When asked his thoughts on how weddings have changed during the pandemic, Louis Gan shared: “If it were up to me, I would prefer small wedding receptions or destination weddings. Times have changed. The pandemic has shifted people’s perspectives. Friends and relatives are more accepting towards the idea of not being invited to weddings, and in fact, most people now support having simpler and smaller receptions.”

“To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.” What’s one of your favourite photos and why? Iceland is one of our dream destinations, and we’re glad to have had the opportunity to photograph a wedding there. This photo is of Michael and Betty celebrating their special day with their closest family and friends. It was a scenic waterfall wedding, and one of our most memorable shoots to date.
