A stylish, modern serif font with soft curves combined with high contrast glyphs, this lends itself to both feminine and masculine qualities, making it perfect for wedding stationery. Cobaissi works great for everything, from quotes and titles to body copy. Since it comes only in all caps, it is best paired with sans serif fonts. Try this on white stock paper, and maybe consider having it in grey instead of black for a more romantic feel.

THEME AND DETAILS

black+earthy

We love a bride who subverts tradition! These chic newlyweds wanted to incorporate their love of the colour black, so they paired it with earthy tones and a moody floral palette. Together with their décor elements, the venue’s high ceilings, and all that natural light, everything came together to create a romantically moody yet beautiful wedding. Even better, their guests had a dress code: all white! Carrere: “Our theme was simple. I love the colour black and wanted to incorporate it into the overall look, like the venue, décor design and prints. We decided to use terra cotta and earthy colours as it really complemented the black. These colour and textural combinations, along with some artistic arrangements, created this chic and moody palette.”

CEREMONY Life has to go on, even in these Covid-19 times. This means smaller weddings with family and close friends only, and everything – the ceremony and reception – has to happen at the same venue. In front of just 35 guests, all of them dressed in white, this bride and groom said “I do” and vowed to be “in this together, forever”! There’s nothing better than a cosy wedding ceremony such as this, with the bride and groom overjoyed, relaxed and able to enjoy this momentous milestone with their loved ones.

VENUE

Wildflowers KL, Kuala Lumpur With its black interior (from the floors to the furniture and décor), high ceilings and sunroof, this was the perfect venue for the happy couple. Nestled in the heart of KL’s Chinatown on Petaling Street, Wildflowers KL has built a reputation for being a curiously enticing restaurant that brings together different cuisines. Imagine Japanese flavours with Thai inspirations, Chinese textures with Mexican influences, Malaysian dishes with French touches, and more! This two-storey venue is glamorous yet casual, making it ideal for a smaller reception.

reception What’s a celebration of love without a song? The groom surprised his bride by singing ‘Friday I’m In Love’ by The Cure, and soon enough, the newlyweds were entertaining their guests with a performance! Impromptu yet heartfelt performances are often difficult to pull off at big weddings, which is another point scored in favour of small soirees. There was still the cake and flowers, the beautiful dress and plenty of fanfare, but there’s just something about an intimate celebration with just 35 people in attendance that captures the true heart and soul of a wedding!

bohemian rustic The soft and neutral colour palette allowed the pastel shades, like the pink roses and green leaves, to pop. The décor included such textures as the lace detail on the bride’s gown, wheat stalks, and the abundance of nature surrounding the newlyweds. The result was a wedding that wasn’t unlike a dreamy walk in the woods. Dovile: “We wanted it to be bohemian rustic, simply because it was the closest to what we feel, as we both love nature. We wanted the décor to blend in with the surroundings and create a cosy, relaxed atmosphere.”

CEREMONY Have you ever seen such an understatedly beautiful dais? Framing the seat where the bride was accompanied by her mother were stalks of wheat, beautiful lush ferns and an assortment of light pink, orange and white flowers. It mirrored the natural surroundings outside, with the added romance of rays of sunlight and everyone’s joyful faces. The groom took a seat in front of the dais and vowed to love, protect and care for his bride.

RECEPTION Following their wedding vows, the newlyweds celebrated their union with an evening reception at Tanarimba, Janda Baik. With its wooden floors and exposed beams, the venue fit their bohemian rustic theme perfectly. The dĂŠcor from the dais was repurposed into a photo booth section, bringing out the earthy tones, and long picnic-style tables were decorated with light floral tablescapes befitting the theme. The evening was filled with singing, toasts and merriment, before finally ending on a sweet note with a delectable dessert buffet.

RECEPTION With the long tables and food served family-style, this was a truly lovely reception spread for the newlyweds and all 52 of their guests! Where prior to Covid-19 it would have been the norm to have your ceremony and reception at different venues, the current social distancing rules and wedding guidelines have made intimate wedding celebrations the (only) way to go. After all, a celebration means so much more when you have only your nearest and dearest with you. We love how this couple pulled off their wedding with so much love and light!

jungle+joyful hues The newlyweds had a request: they wanted their guests to come dressed according to their moodboard! Their decision to get married in the middle of a pandemic meant that they could only have a small party with their closest friends and family, but that also meant that they could have their guests show up in the desired colour palette. The result perfectly complemented the postcolonial architecture of their home, which was filled to the brim with lush greenery and pretty flowers in joyful colours of blood red, coral orange and mustard yellow. Home Sweet Home Jasmine: “Both Rainier and I love nature, so we wanted the wedding theme to be about nature. We had a few wedding venues in mind but decided to do it at home so that we could actualise a ‘jungalow’ theme.” This is what we mean by making it work. There’s true intimacy in tying the knot at home, as it is where the newlyweds are going to build the next chapter of their lives. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that these two have this beautiful postcolonial home, with all its historical influences, chic forest green door and window frames, and quirky décor. Together with the whitewashed walls, vintage rattan furniture and design aesthetic of lush greenery and flowers, it’s like they celebrated their union in the middle of a tropical garden.

CEREMONY What a joyous occasion for the couple. There were tears of joy, loud peals of laughter, and heartfelt vows. We love the bride’s super chic one-shoulder eyelet wedding dress – definitely not a bridal gown that we see every day – and the groom’s own quirky style. What truly completed the look, though, were the wedding guests, who were dressed to the nines in floral prints, burnt oranges and deep reds. In front of 60 of their nearest and dearest, the newlyweds vowed “I do” to one another, and sealed it with a kiss!

CONCEPT

T

he landscape of the wedding industry has changed, and destination bridal portraits have largely come to a halt as most of us are kept within our own borders. That said, it’s

often when we are lacking that we become the most creative. We love how local photographers finally have the chance to showcase some of our country’s gems. Thanks, Kane.CY Photography, for this beautiful set. Why did the couple choose this location? The couple work in Port Klang. Since they wanted bridal portraits that reflect their personality, I suggested this hidden location nearby that is surrounded by factories, abandoned facilities and a railroad. What made the bride decide to wear a pant suit? It’s gorgeous and we love it. It reflects the bride's personality - tough and independent. What inspired the umbrellas? I got the idea from an old movie called 'Singin' in the Rain'. There is a scene where the main character, Don Lockwood, carries a black umbrella and dances in the rain. I thought the black umbrella would match our theme, and besides, umbrellas are always handy for protecting the couple from the hot sun or rain during the shoot.

A TOUCH OF VINTAGE Vintage fashion is in vogue. Designers are mixing the old with the new to create exciting looks for their latest seasons, developing a modern brand of authentic style in the process. From the corseted bodice to square necklines and even sparkly, metallic elements, almost nothing is off limits, and we love how bridal labels are reclaiming these trends for 2020.

Corsets are definitely back. The trend, which started to catch on last year, has been given a modern update by combining it with square necklines, plunging V-neck designs or off-shoulder sleeves. Originally invented to constrict and conceal the female body, corsets have come to represent the opposite, embodying confidence, power and femininity. Square necklines on modern and flattering silhouettes create a timeless, elegant look with just the right hint of vintage. It’s no wonder this trend is a favourite among royalty. Choose an all-white gown with a trumpet silhouette for a classic, minimalist look, or select an A-line design with embellishments for a little texture. This just might be the closest alternative to your dream princess wedding gown, as it works better for smaller celebrations and won’t look out of place. The glitter and glamour of the 1920s and 1930s are making a welcome comeback in the chicest way. These simpler dresses with metallic sequins and glittery fabric are gorgeous, and you won’t need to accessorise much because it already has all the bling that you need. The contemporary look goes perfectly well with this season’s popular wedding themes, and the best part is you’ll be able to wear these dresses to your solemnisation right through to the reception and after-party… BERTA PRIVÉE / ALEXANDRA GRECCO / MUSE BY BERTA / DAALARNA COUTURE / BERTA BRIDAL

The twins from Twins Photography, Ronson and Ryan, embarked on their photography career while they were both still studying architecture. Their knowledge in that field certainly seems to have given them an advantage in their work, as you might notice in the way they capture light and space. With their relaxed and unobtrusive style, they are able to capture the uniqueness and unpredictability of people’s interactions.
