Leafy is a handwritten brush font that was brushed by Ieva Mezule and put together by Krisjanis Mezulis. The extended version comes with lowercasing. It’s an ideal choice for greenery inspired themes, especially when used on white stock uncoated paper or even kraft or recycled paper. Play with different sizes for emphasis.

uilt around a theme of natural simplicity, this styled shoot certainly showed us how to put together a chic
wedding without breaking the bank. The bride’s leafy crown looked effortlessly chic with the cropped lace top, while the hanging geometric elements, watercolour calligraphy stationery, and foliage wall complete with gold-frames as a “photo corner” made everything just picture perfect. Steal the look!

blush pink + earthy The subtlety of blush pink was perfectly complemented by the natural yet earthy tones of Eucalyptus leaves, which featured prominently throughout the wedding, serving as a perfect anchor to the theme. Both of these decorative points were romantic and down-toearth – much like the entire wedding itself! Daryl: “We wanted our wedding to have an organic and earthy feel, and also keep it elegant yet casual. Pink is my favourite colour so I definitely wanted to incorporate it into our theme, but we kept it mostly in blush hues so it would still remain elegant. I’m also in love with Eucalyptus leaves and made sure they appeared throughout our wedding – in our décor, bouquets, invitations, cake, etc.”

CEREMONY The newlyweds exchanged their vows at the Church of St. Ignatius, which gave them an ideal backdrop to their modern and casual wedding. From the high ceilings that allowed for plenty of natural light to the expansive church grounds, it was the cosy setting they wanted for saying “I do in the presence of their family and friends.

RECEPTION “For our reception, we kept it mostly cocktail style, as we wanted people to be able to mingle,” said Daryl. No celebration is complete without cake! While the main event was the classic tiered wedding cake, guests were spoiled for choice by the spread of mini cakes, cake pops, macarons and tartlets. Keeping things casual, Daryl and Baldwin also provided a coffee cart to go with all the yummy desserts. Can you imagine all the wonderful scents in this wedding? From the fragrant Eucalyptus leaves to the aromatic cups of java – what a sweet smelling affair!

forest + vintage Sammie: “I would consider our wedding theme to be simplistic elegance with a vintage feel. There was no need to bring in colour schemes because the venue was beautiful enough; we put the venue in the spotlight as far as our décor was concerned and added small focus points to complete the overall look. “I searched for ways to personalise our wedding without giving up limbs and without compromising the overall style. Our favours were personalised as we had stubby holders and homemade soy wax candles. Anyone who knows my husband would understand why we chose stubby holders; it was a ‘no brainer’.

CEREMONY As much as all greenery inspired themes are beautiful, one should also incorporate some colour and certain elements into a garden wedding to create some sort of contrast for the already very green environment. Think white chairs, a touch of pink wildflowers, or even mixed furniture pieces. “When my new husband and I were posing for our bridal photos with Ben Yew (someone we both admire very much) in the very spot we had been married no more than an hour before, we couldn’t help admiring the people whom we love enjoying our special day,” said Sammie. “We stood there together in front of a beautiful handmade floral love heart that was hanging from the roof of the verandah, appreciating our day and appreciating each other. It was a beautiful moment I will always cherish.” WWW.THEWEDDINGNOTEBOOK.COM

RECEPTION A forest with woodsy details, tassels that gave off a vintage vibe, and a touch of pink blooms – it was all so beautiful. Food trucks and mixed furniture transformed the outdoor area and proved that this couple certainly knew how to ensure that their guests had an enjoyable night. As the photos revealed, it turned out to be quite an emotional and very memorable one as well. “We created focus points for the décor such as the bridal table. It was important to us to have a place designated specifically for the bridal party, despite the fact that the reception style was ‘cocktail’. This meant that eyes were always on us for the most part of the reception so we felt that the bridal table needed to be amazing and unique, and it definitely was!

green + heritage Keeping things modern with a clean and light colour palette of white and green was the perfect move here, especially for incorporating the rich traditional elements of both Malay and Sri Lankan culture. Hana: “The wedding theme was ‘Hijau’ or ‘Green’ to encompass not only the colour but also an appreciation of nature, greenery, and our environment. We had Zainal Abidin’s song ‘Hijau’ playing intermittently to fit in with that theme. I also wanted to incorporate elements of my culture and heritage so 3 Cheringin in Janda Baik turned out to be the perfect location. It’s not only nestled in the hills but also has an old traditional Malay House on its grounds, which fit in with what I envisioned.”

CEREMONY Hana fondly recalled that one of her most precious memories from her wedding day was walking with her father towards the solemnisation ceremony, otherwise known as ‘akad nikah’. She looked absolutely resplendent in a beautiful ‘nikah’ dress by Habsah Abang Saufi that was made with fine silk and tulle, with lace appliqués attached to look like butterflies. Some of the traditions that the bridal couple honoured were the exchange of gifts between the bride and groom, also known as ‘hantaran’. Both ‘hantaran’ trays were made out of natural elements, namely wood and Chinese bamboo respectively.

RECEPTION Traditions don’t have to be stuffy – there’s a way to honour the past and your ancestry without it being too dated. For this wedding, the newlyweds went the incredibly classic route, honouring their heritage and customs while also making the celebration their own. Both receptions were held at the same venue – a modern evening reception as well as a traditional ‘bersanding’ reception. For her evening reception the bride wore a Melinda Looi custom made dress, while her ‘bersanding’ attire was also designed by Habsah Abang Saufi. “Some of the most memorable moments were the heartfelt speeches and performances by my family,” said Hana.

minimalist + leafy Reminiscent of the Beverly Hills Hotel’s Martinique leaf wallpaper featuring the Monstera leaf and other green houseplants, this wedding eschewed floral elements for a variety of leafy designs and ferns, creating this nature inspired backdrop for the ROM. The addition of fairy lights for the reception also cast a beautiful glow over the celebration. Ee Vonn: “It was so romantic to dance under those star lights.” The combination of wooden elements was perfect for the white and green colour palette. The result was a minimalist feel that was cosy and warm, as well as bright and festive.

CEREMONY Looking for the right venue might not be as difficult as you imagine it to be. For this couple, it was the neighbourhood bar with an alfresco deck. The leafy backdrop and exposed brick wall, together with the wooden elements of the venue and clear ceiling that allowed for ample sunlight, all made for the perfect spot for this couple to read their vows to each other in front of their loved ones. It was intimate and perfect, simple yet romantic. “Tavern 13 was our choice because the size of the venue was just right for the amount of guests we wanted, said Ee Vonn.

RECEPTION What’s a party without dancing, cake and desserts? For weddings with minimal décor, a dessert table might be all that is needed to spice up the venue. Plus it’s practically a must these days! All this couple needed was a vintage themed table with a combination of sweet and savoury treats, which looked amazing. Keeping with the leafy theme, leaves were used in lieu of table runners and as tablescapes for the long picnic tables. The shades of green looked great against the dark wooden elements, and the newlyweds clearly had an amazing time celebrating their nuptials with their closest family and friends.

his fashionable couple not only visited in a single trip two of the destinations many people have on their bucket lists – Croatia and Iceland – they did it with style, thanks to the
talented team of Metrophoto. Simply mindblowing! How did this #BucketListWedding photoshoot come about? We’ve always told Oly of Metrophoto that our post-nup shoot had to be epic, and there was actually another place we initially wanted but you aren’t allowed to have photoshoots there. So we went through our bucket list again and decided Croatia would be a really beautiful and intriguing choice. Then as we were planning the trip, we thought, why not include Iceland to make it even more epic? A good friend of ours recommended Montenegro so we added that to our itinerary since it’s just a two-hour drive from Dubrovnik. How was the experience? In a nutshell, it was an amazing yet challenging experience. From having our baggage delayed for two days in Croatia to having our rented car break down in Montenegro; from hanging out in a Starbucks in Cologne, Germany, for 12 hours because we were there on a Sunday and all the other shops were closed to shooting in Iceland in 3 degrees Celsius with some rain showers and pretty strong winds. We even spent some nights sleeping in a car with 6 people while in Iceland. It was indeed an epic trip, especially because we’re really good friends with Oly and the whole Metrophoto Family so we were in fantastic company.
