Valentina is a classic didone that follows some of the canons proposed by Bodoni in the 18th century, but that also incorporates many of the characteristics of the antique Spanish punches of the time. Keep it elegant in all caps, or add a twist of rhythm and poetry to your quotes or titles with the alternative lower cases. This is loads of fun to play with, and can be used in almost any theme from modern and minimalist right through to rustic!

Julia Romancheva of JRweddings: “The first meeting of the bride and groom on the wedding day. Such an intimate and touching moment! We picked this place very carefully. We wanted this place to enhance the greatness of their feelings, love and affection. The sunset time for the ceremony was chosen not by accident. Soft rays of the setting sun became a harmonious addition to the whole concept of the wedding day.

hen it comes to destination beach wedding and bridal portraits it seems daunting to find something elegant
yet suitable for outdoor. This styled shoot came aptly, whether you want a dress easy to move around with a sexyback from Inbal Dror or you want something more classic like a cap sleeve ball gown from Ersa Atelier, it all seems to go very well with setting. What we love about these two designers are the romantic intricate details on the dress. It is hard to take your eyes of them. Even the loose hairdo with head wreath and beautifully put together anemone bridal bouquet seems divine. The amazing rays of sun streaming through clouds over the ocean has to be the icing on top the cake that make this such a swoon-worthy feature.

classic chic
Keeping the aesthetic timeless and romantic, this couple ensured that the details were all part of the breathtaking venue of the Santa Maria church in Ara Coeli. As a city rich in history and art, every corner in Rome was a photo backdrop that had the most opulent and intricate details, which perfectly complemented the bride and groom’s classic style. “I chose the colour combination of white, pastel pink and gold. I’ve always loved the combination of these colours, as they’re both romantic and classic at the same time,” said Rae.

CEREMONY The couple decided to exchange their vows at the Basilica Santa Maria in Ara Coeli without really getting a chance to scout out the venue beforehand, but it all turned out well. As they tied the knot in the presence of family and friends, the beauty and magnificence of the church was undeniable, from its beautiful ceiling and Roman columns to the framed art adorning its walls. Rae: “A memorable moment was when I had to climb the 150 steps of the church’s grand ladder in a wedding gown and high heels. It was very hectic, but there was something lovely about it. I got to walk with my bridesmaids in our gowns and people around us were all laughing or smiling. When we arrived at the top, everything was all set and beautiful; I couldn’t help but feel incredibly touched.”

basilica santa maria, ara coeli, rome Also known in English as the Basilica of St. Mary of the Altar of Heaven, the Basilica Santa Maria is located on the summit of the Campidoglio (Capitoline Hill in English), one of the Seven Hills of Rome and one of the citadels of ancient Rome. Currently the designated church of the city council of Rome, the church was built with a nave and two aisles divided by Roman columns, and a Gothic window that can be viewed from the bottom of the church stairs. The church has one of the most breathtaking interiors, from the gorgeous wooden ceiling, with its intricate details and grand chandeliers, to the altar.

RECEPTION Keeping with the elegant and classic theme, the reception was held at Villa Miani, a neoclassical building on the hill of Monte Mario. With gilded curtains, pink and white roses, and the bride’s gorgeous lace dress, the reception was kept simple but sophisticated. Rae: “I wanted my wedding to be memorable – not just for me and my husband, but for our guests too! We wanted them to feel the vibe of Rome and enjoy the beautiful day, and I think we managed to give them just that. Rome is such a beautiful place – I couldn’t think of a better idea than to get married in Rome.”

nude + gold
One of the best ways to plan your theme is to work around the colour palette of the space that you have chosen. Luckily for this bride, Nicole, gold is a wedding favourite. “We wanted the colours and flowers to reflect the season spring. From the beginning we decided on a nude colour palette including light peach and pinks, and shades of cream and white. Thus I went with flowers like ombre ranunculus, garden roses, peonies, and astilbe. “We also loved our wedding stationery. Paper & Honey created for us some unique, absolutely gorgeous invitations inspired by our wedding venue, with gold leaves and classic calligraphy.”
CEREMONY This couple knew Paris was where they wanted to say “I do” after having gotten engaged there a few weeks prior. Instead of the usual ceremony space in Shangri-La, Nicole and John opted for a different spot with stained glass features, marble and sculptures. It had never been done before, making them the first to wed there. Nicole: “The dress by Michal Medina had a fairly long train, was fitted with a hint of sheer and lace, and had a dramatic back. I also had a beautiful Chapel veil with lace details all along the edges to complement the train. I tried it on for five minutes at Panache Beverly Hills and didn’t think too much of it until I got home and saw how beautiful it looked in pictures. I had to get it once I saw how beautifully it photographed.”

Le Grand Salon is designed in Louis XIV décor, and hosts a large white marble chimney adorned with gold and bronze, and surmounted by a glass trumeau. The venue was made even more perfect by the crystal chandeliers hanging down from the ceiling. Nicole: “Our venue was a palace! We loved the gold details, marble and high ceilings. The food was incredible, not to mention our room had a private roof terrace with views of the Eiffel Tower. We loved everything about it!”

RECEPTION At the reception, jazz music, Ladurée macaroons and Parisian postcards completed the look and feel. There was no better way to end the night than with sparklers up on the roof terrace overlooking the Eiffel Tower. Nicole: “We had a banquet style dinner with one long dining table seating 40 guests, 20 on each side. We had flower centrepieces placed all along the table. I wanted lots of candles and loved the look of church candles, so we had two of these in between the centrepieces. I loved the clean yet very romantic and elegant look! For Nicole, the most memorable moment from the night was her mum’s speech, while for John, it was when his dad danced to the live jazz band playing ‘Rockin’ Robin’.

modern rustic Though most brides start with a theme in mind, this is a classic example of how there is no fixed way to come up with your moodboard. It is also comforting to know that things will always fall in place for the better, so do not get too worn down by it. “We didn’t have a theme in mind when we started planning, to be honest. But the entire process was smooth because we love the minimalist look and agreed to have nothing outrageous. We only realised that our theme steered toward the ‘modern rustic’ look probably a month before the wedding, when everything fell into place!”

CEREMONY How wonderful to have a beautiful church on the Boracay shore, so one can still have their traditional church ceremony followed by a beach reception! We love how this couple put simple white flowers along the aisle to adorn the already beautiful interior of the Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, and the flowergirl looked extremely adorable in her boho inspired dress and baby’s breath head wreath. A white flowerball instead of the usual basket or bouquet was definitely the better option for this little girl.

shangri-la’s boracay resort & spa Surrounded by lush hills and overlooking the ocean with a quarter mile-long private beachfront, the resort truly is a quiet paradise surrounded by natural beauty. As the sun sets, the dazzling white sands and coast of Boracay slowly becomes a golden panorama that is simply breathtaking. “We both live in Sydney, Australia. We chose Boracay Island in the Philippines as we thought it’d be a central location for our friends and families to travel to,” shared Sarah. “Also, Francis comes from a Filipino background. It’s an amazing island and it had everything we could’ve dreamt of for our perfect wedding.”
RECEPTION Guests enjoyed simple cocktails in the garden at the Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort & Spa right after the ceremony before everyone moved to the beach for the dinner reception. The gold Tiffany chairs and white and blush flowers with rustic bottles and lots of greens went perfectly well with the blue seas and dusky skies. Beautiful hanging greens and industrial lights for the main table kept the look modern, while the small boat with the couple’s wedding logo on its sail made for a great beach wedding backdrop and the ideal photo opportunity. Taking full advantage of the stunning surrounds and open space, the couple also opted to end the night with a bang, quite literally, with fireworks.

They even created a special ‘Hamptons’ cocktail for the celebration that went late into the night, set against the backdrop of magical fairy lights. Everything came together perfectly – even the outfits of their guests! “Everybody was dressed to the nines! weddings because I wanted to bring people to those picturesque landscapes. It is more challenging but there’s greater satisfaction to be able to work in different environments in all seasons with different couples. I also do a lot of research to discover different styles of wedding photography. Among those who have inspired my work are Yervant, Joe Buissink, Marcus Bell, Ryan Schembri and Jerry Ghionis. Friends that inspire me are probably my best pal Johnson Wee, Keda.Z and Danny Xeero. What are your other interests besides photography? Besides travelling, discovering new places and collecting souvenirs from these places, I also love outdoor sports such as soccer and basketball. Where is your favourite place to shoot destination bridal portraits? Scandinavia and New Zealand. I find that couples are more confident and relaxed because there are fewer tourists there, and it helps that those places are vast and peaceful.
