Great for those who are yet to master the art of calligraphy, this script font comes with glyphs, splats and splashes to help you create the perfect font arrangement. Use for quotes, titles and signs. The Canvas font is not too thick, which means it isn’t as bulky compared to many of the other free script fonts, yet is thick enough for you to create a debossed or letterpress effect when used on stationery.

sustainability
The couple’s eco-friendly theme was visible throughout this wedding, from the programme booklet to the backdrop of wooden pallets that had been made by the father of the bride. What we really love about the new generation of brides is the way sustainability is simply a part of their lives! Ashley: “My husband and I wanted a sustainable wedding that was both socially conscious and low in environmental impact wherever possible. Instead of using fresh flowers to decorate the venue, our florist Fiona Treadwell came up with the brilliant idea of using dried flowers and opening up a herb bar where the flowers/herbs could be wrapped in a bouquet for guests to bring home as wedding favours. It was such a hit with our family and friends!”

CEREMONY We can’t help but admire Ashley and Jarrod’s commitment to using their wedding celebration as a way to bless those in need. How beautiful is their love that is so big it overflows to those around them. Keeping everything quite simple, they chose to spend their resources on the things that matter. Revealed Ashley: “We worked with socially conscious vendors who are doing some amazing work with underprivileged and marginalised communities, in particular Covenant Jewellery for our rings and Bettr Barista for the day’s much needed coffee.”

something different Instead of an elaborate wedding dinner, the bridal couple chose to have a quiet meal together at Potato Head Folk, where Jarrod made Ashley fall in love with burgers (or so he claims). They’ve certainly got the right idea here – how many bridal couples miss out on a decent meal on their wedding day because they have so many things to do? Many couples don’t even remember everything that happens on their big day, and are often too tired to even look at each other come the wedding night. This quiet dinner could be exactly what is needed to begin married life together, perhaps at the restaurant where you had your first date or your favourite eatery?

greenery + dusty blue We cannot stop swooning over this romantic combination of soft pink hand bouquets and dusty blue. And the simple one-colour invite is proof that there is indeed beauty in simplicity. Charis: “We were going for a vintage botanical theme, and centered our wedding around neutral colours, greenery, and a touch of dusty blue and gold. We incorporated this into our wedding invitation suite, which I designed, and we also embarked on DIY wedding projects for a personal touch, like our calligraphy musical backdrop, the signage, and the church décor.”

CEREMONY This was not just any church, but the Church of the Good Shepherd, where Charis and Joshua grew up. For them, their wedding was like having 300 of their loved ones all come together. It not only brought together both families, but their spiritual family too. We can only imagine what it must have felt like to walk down this aisle that they both know so well. The bride had two dresses – an illusion neckline, long sleeved lace wedding dress that she wore for the ceremony, and a dress with a front split that she wore with her hair down for the evening, and that allowed her to party all night long.

something different Having decided that their reception would not be just about them, but also a way to bless those that they love, it was no surprise that Charis and Joshua’s thank you speeches outdid most thank you speeches we’ve ever heard. The bride revealed: “Most memorable was the way we successfully surprised our families by singing our wedding speech! We thought of many ways to say our ‘thank you’ – we even thought of recording and playing it at the reception – but we finally chose to do it through a medley that we spent months rehearsing. There were lots of happy tears and we were really glad that we managed to make our loved ones feel special that night.”

peonies + gold When it comes to DIY weddings, we always say that you should take on only what you are able. Fortunately for this couple, the groom is a designer. He took on most of the design work involved, and left the rest of it to the professionals. Alice: “Our theme was peonies and gold. We used primarily gold with touches of pink and white, from the wedding invitations to the decorations, cakes and flowers. We also used a lot of other elements to give things the right balance. “There were a lot of DIY projects! The wedding invitations and stationery were all designed by Andrew, and he also made the direction boards with recycled wood and did the calligraphy himself.”

something different Alice and Andrew sealed the deal in front of just over 100 of their closest friends and family. Instead of the usual chairs, they had their loved ones standing up and forming a human aisle – which looked beautiful! Everyone loves garden weddings, except when the weather gets too humid. That is why Alice and Andrew wisely chose to have their wedding at the Smokehouse in Cameron Highlands, with its cosy cottage and beautiful gardens. The flowers used were mainly peonies with some Cameron Highland roses, and the wedding favours were jars of strawberry jam, made from strawberries that had been locally grown. We do like how they incorporated “local highlights” into their wedding.
RECEPTION Even though the dinner reception was indoors, guests were still able to enjoy the view of the beautiful gardens. The simple rustic look helped to create a warm atmosphere that was perfect for a lighthearted evening. More importantly, it was the kind of family gathering that will be remembered many years down the road. Filled with laughter and so much love, this, we believe, is how all weddings should be.

culture + quirky additions Sarah: “We chose a British Indian inspired theme that incorporated bicycle and skateboard elements, as well as gold dinosaurs, because I’m part Indian and grew up in a family where there was a lot of British influence. I am also nuts about dinosaurs! “Jason, on the other hand, loves his three-piece suits, bikes and skateboards. The colour theme followed an autumn palette of forest green, marsala, gold, beige and dusty blue because these are our favourites and represented our love for nature.”

something different This wedding brought us back to those days when parties were more informal affairs, without a pre-set programme. Singing, dancing, laughter, touching moments and, of course, tears – what a beautiful celebration of love under the starry night sky! This also goes to show that your dream wedding can be done with any budget. This couple splurged on their venue but kept the rest simple by scrapping the conventional wedding favours and printed invites. After all, weddings are not about those things. Keep the main thing the main thing.

rustic industrial The simple detailing for this wedding, along with the white on white colour theme punctuated with green, blue and gold accents, blended perfectly well with the gorgeous landscape at the Ungasan Clifftop Resort in Uluwatu, Bali. “Our theme was rustic industrial. We like the contrast of the two when combined. It represents ‘balance’”, said Cherry. She’s right. The theme kept the mood light hearted and slightly glamorous without looking like they were trying too hard. The bride rocked it with a Steve Madden dress sandal – exactly what you need for an outdoor wedding, and we also love the bridesmaids’ dresses – the two-piece minimalist yet unusual cut gave them an edgy style.

something different This couple had their religious ceremony all done prior to this to keep the day simple. It also allowed them to have some quality time and share a “first look” in this beautiful venue. Sometimes bridal couples try to do too much in the one day, forgetting that a back-to-back program will make it hard for them to savour the moment. Choose quality time instead – life is about creating moments, and at the end of the day, that’s what you want to remember.

RECEPTION An outdoor cliff top dinner reception, complete with hanging chandeliers, the sound of waves and a gorgeous blue sky – can it get any more beautiful than that? The perfectly chosen colours, wooden detailing and baby’s breath looked great with the white tulle tablecloths, which gave the proceedings a softer, more romantic touch. To keep the look consistent, their place cards had the same watercolour design as their wedding invites, and there were also sparklers to round everything off nicely. You almost can’t do without sparklers for outdoor evening events these days, which is understandable since they are undeniably pretty and also create a nostalgic feel.

CINDY & HENRY
CONCEPT
t
his has to be one of our favourite destination bridal portrait sessions. No plans, just a hired motorhome, map, playlist, shared love for travel and stash of wine. This couple hit the
road, travelling across picturesque New Zealand for a carefree prewedding trip and no itinerary. As every photographer will testify, this is the kind of genuine intimacy and spontaneity that they yearn to capture. Indra of Iluminen shares the story with us. Tell us about the journey. We flew from Bali to Melbourne and then straight on to Queenstown. The motorhome depot was walking distance from the airport and that was where we picked up the campervan. It was a one-week trip and we travelled around New Zealand. Starting from Queenstown, we headed for scenic spots such as Milford Sound, Lake Tekapo, Mount Cook and other places. How was the weather? The weather in March was just perfect for sweaters and cuddles – around 17-23 degrees Celsius during the day and dropping to 15-17 degrees at night. How was the experience of staying in a campervan? It was actually pretty fun; it’s basically like having your home with you the entire time. The upside was we could make brief stops at beautiful spots, cook, enjoy some wine, and take in the world-class scenery at our doorstep. The downside was always having to put away our things before we drove on to our next destination, and limited access to resources such as electricity and water. But I suppose it was all of these things that made the trip worthwhile, right?

Which has been the most beautiful or memorable country? Every destination possesses its own merit but Iceland probably is the most beautiful. The landscapes are simply breathtaking. The volatile weather aside, it would be really hard to take a bad picture in Iceland. Which destination has been the most challenging to shoot? One of the most challenging shoots I’ve done was a recent session I did in Havana, Cuba. There was the usual language barrier but it was made even harder because of logistical challenges such as no access to local SIM cards, no Wi-Fi, no international roaming, no credit cards, no ATMs, etc. You are literally cut off from the outside world.
