August 2021 WTF?

August 2021 - TheZineUK Doc - Thank you to all on our pages #FertileEnvironment https://theZineUK.co.uk https://www.facebook.com/TheZineUK https://www.instagram.com/thezine.uk/ Chattiness https://www.twitter.com/thezineuk https://www.tiktok.com/@thezine.uk? https://www.youtube.com/c/TheZineUKMagazine Editor : Dizzy Spell Photography; Chris Patmore, Neil Winward, Julia Woolams, Tarquin Clark, Dan Donovan, Stefon Grant, Rupert Hitchcox Events / Diary/Snapshots : Caffy St Luce

Sunday 5th December 2021 TheZineUK doc timelines are now a blur of achievements and news from the cast and crew in this tale. Best of luck, all. Backdrop: A world becoming so bat shit crazy that I’m often fucking DONE with the nazihate mentality of mainstream politics and their lickspittle “media” How can we be turned, so easily, against our necessities? The Lifeboat Institute? NHS staff? Teachers? Children/Students/Youth in general? Kindness? The Old? The Planet? The Poor, Fire Fighters etc. plus a variety show conveyor belt of skin tones, faiths, politics, abilities and sexual orientations?…

The hostile environment is endless and building (while distracting and dividing us with utter bollocks presented as “news”). The irony of slagging off people seeking refuge from OUR bombs, while cooing over nativity scenes, is lost on a gammonatti stale-HELL -bent on the self extinction of humanity - and Xmas! A picture of a unicorn at a Love Music Hate Racism festival feels strangely appropriate and as sane as 2021. All is not lost though. I feel energised by generation tremorists with new ideas For The People. I also saw The Manics play again on Friday night. Again, it feels like all is not lost…#FertileEnvironment lives!

Is there a social arts movement amidst the veering waves of elation and depression that the music world rides (on DIY chariots pulled by star shaped talent) through pandemica’s storm? Maybe ask our most recent cover star, Louise Schofield → if anything is happening in grassroots music venues and beyond…? The artists and their allies ARE the new music media. Coming with ‘em? From Despair, to where? So much has happened since the fash coup’s Freedom To Die Day or whatever that dropped in the midst of the last issue. It can all be too overwhelming. Thank Feck there is so much escapism in the story TheZineUK tells. Breathe.

…And what a story we tell! TheZineUK has adventures with creative friends. Since first uploading this cut n paste pic book (Spring 2014) it’s become documentary evidence of The Good. The Bad. The Ugly (and some-times, The Lucky). As 2021 ends, that was some seven Year (b)Itch of a tale! Nowadays more chronicle, the next few pages are just ONE of the many #FertileEnvironment (true) stories woven into this doc - but it is a pattern that keeps repeating. Take another look at the artists on these pages.

Above: A seminal RTN Makes Music being iconic in the grand main hall of the National History Museum in Kensington. Rupert Hitchcox captured this shot from an unforgettable set. It became the Chapter 1 (March 2014) cover image. (Continued…/)

HOW excited we were to be alive in the year when “2020 Vision” became a reality! We definitely saw many more people clearly by the end of it, but in the new year, we had no idea! January 2020, Whitechapel: TheZineUK had partnered up with Genesis Cinema for a screening of the 90s glam rock movie, Velvet Goldmine. Pictured at the after party, our writer and presenter, Monefa, with Rhiannon. We all met up again, the following day, to create and perform in Islington’s iconic Hope and Anchor.

RTNMakesMusic was an impressive last minute addition to the line up of January 2020’s filmed sessions pilot, #FuturePicks In the interview with tech star, Louise Schofield, musician, author and all round wonder woman, Rhiannon talked about her writing being adapted for the screen.. Louise went on to become the host of Balcony Online Festival events at the start of lockdown and Roobi TV’s GET ON! show which filmed from the end of it. 2021 started with both Monefa Walker and RtN Makes Music becoming released recording artists.

July 2021 “…I’m so excited to see the finished film, and incredibly proud to be part of something so incredible and inspiring.” RTN Makes Music October 2021 “Utterly thrilled to have been awarded TWO (2!) whole awards Bolton Film Festival last weekend: and ! I cannot thank the organisers enough for choosing us to be part of such a wonderful festival.

The fact that this film even exists is magical to me, so for it to achieve praise and recognition is beyond anything I could’ve imagined. Thank you to @sceallondon for creating something so special from my words. And to all the cast and crew… …YOU ARE AMAZING!!!!” RTNMakesMusic

Such a huge amount of talent (and a poetic heart) this is all so well deserved. There’s more to come in 2022, so watch Rhianon’s (s)pace!

Such big back stories of Zeenagers as this new world begins. Everybody is brand in the best soundtracked don’t do dull Dystopia!

It’s fair to say that life on Normal Island has not been dull since “Freedom Day” month. Tragic. Dystopian. Callous. Yes. But not dull. Some of us made it to

August 2021

1st August 2021 - Spring cover stars, The Tuts, in fine company - and Coventry on the music map. Again!

5th August 2021 : BIRTHMARKS Shacklewell Arms “A remarkably accomplished piece of work...this is brilliant" Kerrang!

As all gigs were post-poned when the world stopped… Finally. The 2020 debut album’s launch show! I’m still buzzing. ‘...And Then The Rain Stopped’ is aural escapes. I wasn’t the only audience member veering between awestruck gaping and grinning. (Caffy)

Since last issue’s catch up with Nandi Bushell, #ClimateAction rock out, was uploaded in October. Fab, fun and feisty. With Nandi on drums/lead vocals and fellow child musician, Roman Morello on guitar, (self-penned with Tom Morello and cool-as cameos from Greta Thunberg and Jack Black. A true Generation Tremorists line up. It feels so good to see and hear such leaders. Find it and hear Nandi encourage other children to rise up.

SHADE gigs are increasingly being realised as a MOMENT. 6th August was sold out way in advance then got moved for lockdown, but people hung on to their tickets, came to the Off The Square - and sang their hearts out…

SHADE Friday 6th August 2021 Off The Square, in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. A moment in the music year. The atmosphere felt literally like a “Jump Into Heaven” with the crowd going mad for their anthemic rock sounds). No one trick pony, the band would also headline Night & Day in October for This Feeling and inspire more scenes. This image © Neil Winward facebook.com/neilwinwardphotography/

Geronimo - Not a bananarama-karma llama farmer drama?

LOVE to see the #FertileEnvironment in full force, following the stories of the now and next music industry’s cast and crew.

Go Abbie! Go Katie! Reading and Leeds Festival 2021 included Nova Twins, Calva Louise, Bob Vylan, Zuzu - in fact loadsa the newer wave. It feels like we’re consistently getting somewhere and here’s to whatever good things happen next. “Dystopia, do one”. The Musical.

Our #MusicPeopleParty DJ Host No.1, Katie Owen, was also, a few months after this weekend, the official DJ for the Kasabian tour. Even the sky’s not the limit for the wealth of interdependent mover shakers. Watch all their spaces, or even just flick through these pages all over again. The artists, events, multi media, tech, audiences and music incustrious allies are documented for a reason Love, mainly..

Kontrol Freaks at GET ON! (Roobi TV), Amersham Arms, August 2021 - the band return in the following month for Kick Out The Jams club.

That was just a little bit of my August 2021. How was yours? We all connected by three degrees of celebration. What happens next for The Tuts? Birthmarks? Nandi Bushell? SHADE? Marcus Rashford? Kick Out The Jams? MOSES? Lewisham? Nova Twins? This Feeling? Helve? John Parry? Katie Owen? Abbie McCarthy? Or will The Insane Villains of Greed destroy our NHS/Planet? Caffy (Events/Diary)
