Much appreciation for the moments, the access and hugs. Hopefully we can put this to making more good happen in an austere Armageddon apocalypse of the willfully inside out upside down world of Hostile Envoronment. TheZineUK documents under the radar positivity, unity, creativity and community. Within eight years of our imperfect DIY, the passion people power of our cast and crew have proven the Fertile Environment to be a reality and has helped create a newer wave of interdependent music artists and allies to feed the mainstream recording, arts and live music sectors. A wealth of potential opportunity, experiences and involvement. Having been described as “more of a Rocking Pebble than a Rolling Stone” and as “The New Whimsical Express”, we’re “only” grassroots. You know what? We love that. More allies being real to our efforts. That helps drives this incredible story along. By 2022, the Music People Party is more than a gig-party. It’s a welcoming movement that actually moves, even on Planet Pandemica. So yes, The Elite’s Evil Empire keeps winning battles but we, the many, have got brilliant anthems, dance moves, courage and visualisations. Game on, Baddies. Look, this is a fraction of the January 2022 action…

Unashamed rocking out is ON. Suspects release their (Cool debut EP, Thing Records). “Championed by Kerrang!, Louder Than War, John Kennedy (Radio X) and BBC Introducing, Suspects’ debut EP, Recovery, is what happens when someone is brave enough to face their pain, and put in the hard graft in order to turn it in to music that transcends it.” (GigSlutz)

January ‘22 off to a good start on the musical front. Wargasm, Holly Humberstone and Nova Twins are on the front cover of Alternative Press who tip ‘22 For ‘22’ TheZineUK crew especially buzzing for Nova Twins, who are a golden thread in the story of newer wave rocking, feminism, DIY, Stage Style AND decolonised diversity. Well done, all!

January 2022 - hibernated for just that little bit longer, this year. Only going for walks as outings. But come mid month it was (1) take a test - artists had been dropping like flies, gigs cancelled, industry on it’s knees. (2) yay, negative, so I don the Primordial Ring #stagestyle and (3) head back into realish life - a.k.a. rocking out…

27th January 2022 Camden Rotters night at The Good Mixer was noise and joys for girls and boys. Kick Out The Jams sure lives up to the name. Quality scouting and promoting has meant that these events started the year with a golden alumni of artists, plus a respected reputation before the first note was played. A house party mix of audience are in the house for the live sets and music social. What a pleasure to catch Cross Wires again. This top tonetangented band are another of TheZineUK story threads. Came into the tale via KOTJ in December 2019, well spotted, head jammer, Roger Kent of Kent!

A Cause In Distress are self described as “The lovechild of Nine Inch Nails, Fugazi and Radiohead, if it was fathered by David Lynch”. They have pleased our ears into their thread in this tale. 25th January tweeted @TheZineUK #2022soundslike positive plans:

“Release the debut A Cause In Distress album. Cherish my loved ones. Improve my mental health. Stay alive.” Liam Watkins @CauseDistress

January 2022 Voodoo Radio release their punky, sharp, debut album - Pop Pills - on Holy Dotage Records.

TheZineUK doc caught them Autumn 2021 at Amersham Arms with Kick Out The Jams and have kept an eye and ear out on what happens next (in this case, radio play, tour dates and headlining a BBC Introducing stage…)

2022? People still say “Happy New Year” but it feels increasingly hollow. January (for me, personally), was given a boost by the hope which Jeremy Corbyn gave the Goldsmiths Staff Strike in December 2021. Quite a few folk in New Cross, and beyond, felt the same. Although some people turn their nose up at South London (not so much these days with the gentrification, heck, we even see taxis!) it’s still the rebel alliance republic that spawned TheZineUK (round the corner from here at Amersham Arms) Having blagged into a Jeremy Corbyn at this location a few years ago, you betcha I repped again this day. Even got to exchange a few words, what a gent. Fast forward six months and striking for fairness is already a defining working class theme of 2022, especially since midsummer.

27th January 2022 A Music Party at AMP Studios Jesse, Kat, Rhiannon, Jean Genie, Dizzy, Rebecca, Louise, Jami, Guillame and Rhys had a meet up with Sam & Lorcan, plus Sonja The Blur Fairy and Minxy The Love Pirate. …We created. To music. This was the evening of a wake for Andy Ross at The Good Mixer in Camden. Andy was with us in spirit, here, too, and this wonderful location which hosted the Contemporary Music Proms in Summer ‘22.
