Nov’21

(A fantastic one, In fact!)

November 2021 issue of TheZineUK Find Monefa Walker’s articulate 20th September 2021 post at https://instagram.com/baroque_queen/ - it inspired six words of thought for me, “there’s a great disturbance in the force”. Awesome and then some… Monefa is part of TheZineUK cast and crew as a writer: Articles & interviews include Shirley Manson of Garbage, The Mysterines and Calva Louise (also appears in some of their videos). A rock show promoter, a Music People Party host and as part of the Events Department, an artist PR rep. In a wealth of talents, an astrologer and musician, emerging in her own right over the last few (far from dull!) Years, having composed a zodiac connected debut album of classical music. Listen out. It’s wonderful (as in full of wonder) seeing TheZineUK cast and crew expand their talented creativity, publicly, like butterflies emerging to make the world more beautiful.

So what happened next? As ever, this cut n paste picture diary’s just a fraction of the newer wave art rocking action. #TheZineUK doc November 2021 The above cover of October 2021’s diary (inspired by the glam poptastic Vanity Fairy at the MashZine Party) is “generation tremorists” powered by teen editor and events promoter, Scarlet Hall. It’s a fresh of breath air to see hope for the future, right now.

This month was filled with Cop 26 & environmental chatter around the Climate Change Conference held in Glasgow up to 13 November. Good intentions from every day people and events. Greenwashing from world misleaders and crapitalism. Throughout it all, the artists keep sewing fresh seeds…

November 2nd 2021 Platform 7’s Discussion Festival has evolved into an international conference of creative people exchanging ideas, performance and conversation. The climate is on so much of humanity’s mind and Season 2 of the on-line event (in a digital lounge) included a Cop 26 special.

Saturday 6th November 2021 - Archway was lit by #GhostRoadFest! #TheZineUK were over the moon to be part of this punky peace break-out! Kudos to all who played and those who didn’t get to. Each line up makes something new for the hear future.

GHOST ROAD FEST

Ticked all the boxes… and then some.

#GhostRoadFest - hot line up, yes, but it was also a safe space for us all.

Ghost Road Fest - Salvation Jayne -It’s been a while! Pandemica’s effects are still around - and the bands feel brand new all over again.

Another supportive band in TheZineUK story, MOSES, enjoying some Mirror Magic on the Ghost Road Fest stage. Many thanks to Alex Cohen of the GRF Team for recording the shows. Between sets, Amazing Radio’s Charlie Ashworth DJs a mix of alternative gig classics and new music to keep our heads nodding. A fave moment was while chatting with Bram of Tiger Mimic when they suddenly got a spin. Who doesn’t love to hear their records friends in a club? For that matter, who doesn’t love to see them performing on stage? Originally a Leeds/London weekend, it’s brill that oeone show got to happen in these days.

6th November 2021 - A gold star for a musical wonder woman. Lori Forster who instigated #GhostRoadFest - bringing a wide swathe of friends and strangers together. Also spotted a load of the interdependent mover shakers down the front for the live sets and got to meet some on-line friends in person. Lori and co. looked after audience and artists alike on the day also played a live set as lead singer of Weekend Recovery. At time of writing (March 2022) Lori is a bonafide chart musician with the band and solo (both via Criminal Records). Watch the newer wave stories weave… by now, into a fresh entertainment biz.

Sharp n Sassy: Snayx at GhostRoadFest

Following sold out tour dates earlier in the year, Weekend Recovery’s roars of applause at Ghost Road Fest included the crowd shout out; “We Love You, Lori”… It was a hear hear moment! Big up the DIY new music festivals aimed at not just cannily crafted line ups on the entertainment side but inclusive gatherings with diversity and welcome in their DNA. So many fantastic bands don’t get noticed by major league bookers that these affordable, personal events are definitely the “I Swear I Was There” essentials. Extra hugs for those who have allowed TheZineUK doc to be part of their story telling.

November 7th 2021 Soccer Six: The Game Of History There’s something so “back of the net” about a social-&-selfie-heaven day out. Scotland’s inaugural Soccer Six charity football match in Glasgow raised awareness for Blameless Kids. The charity provides fun times, creating happy memories for children who have been directly or indirectly affected by addiction or alcoholism. This was alongside highlighting #COP26 environment and climate issues. Now with a published climate change professor, Mark Maslin, on Team Soccer Six. Add the usual mix of artists, celebrities, footballers and llively crowds united for fun, to Love Football, Love The World

Professor Mark Maslin Who also tweeted via @ProfMarkMaslin

As Soccer Six and #FootballMusic have been themes of this documentary’s Fertile Environment (in firm opposition to the nation having a Hostile Environment!), then it’s heartwarming to see the beautiful game staying beautiful.

7th November 2022 - a gathering of friends went a bit “Bridgerton” in a Belgravian Palace…at the Literature Festival, Romania Rocks

7th November 2021 Romanian Cultural Institute L-R: Videographer, photographer and Wiz Radio presenter, Rhiannon Nevada with broadcaster / presenter, Rojan and musician, promoter, radio presenter /producer, Jean Genie. The Literature Festival, Romania Rocks, was rounded off by an unplugged concert by MOSES. Music friends joined the gathering in Belgravia (nr. Buckingham Palace). Thank you to all concerned for their kind hospitality.

7th November 2021: The scene is set for something intimate and personal. “I’m really nervous” admitted MOSES singer, Victor, at one point, but their performance was warmly received, engaged and special.

ArtBeat: The Literature Festival poster by photographer and graphic designer, Christian Calistru, is a fantastic continuance from the Ana Bănică artwork from MOSES’s 2020 debut album, aptly named for this age; ‘Almost Everything Is Bullshit’. During the show, they mixed in new songs from a follow up album coming in 2022…

7th November 2021 - After show reception for MOSES at the Romania Rocks Literature Festival, Belgravia.

MOSES are a travelling (artists + audiences) circus of good people for good times… as well as an anthem loaded rock n roll band

Multi talents of up and coming entertainment (and cast in this tale) Louise & Jean Genie, 7th November 2021, Romania Rocks Literature Festival

That was another surreal and beautiful adventure in peace and fun

From a literature festival (with a growing international and mainstream reputation), located in a palace to some new and original classical music performed in a church. Spectacular spaces. “What’s this to do with TheZineUK doc/rock n roll?” some may query. Music is as genre fluid as the choices that the internet offer. Welcome to the 21st century. What are plebs like us doing in spaces like these? Oh, that’s easy. we’re enjoying ourselves. Yeah… let’s do that again.

13 November 2021 Monefa Walker - Live In Concert We are emerging, blinking from locked down darkness into brighter hopes even in bleaker dystopia. The vibe was “in the stars” as multi talented Monefa classically soundtracks this movie called modern life in which we are unwilling extras. She expressed a performance, in the uplifting environs of Highgate Church, which provided our scenes of relief. If we were there, in love and peace, I feel that we left in hope and positivity. I certainly did. Watch Monefa Walker’s space expanding in uniqulture. Photo by Louise Schofield

13th November 2021 (continued) What lovely fellow audience members we met at Monefa’s concert. Thank you for the hospitality, also. Money was also raised for the charities Help Musicians and Musicians Against Homelessness. There’s a debut LP coming (via Lil Minx Records) woman powered recordings from production to artwork. Anita Maj (who runs the label) very kindly gave Lullaby Lou and myself a lift to Kings Cross for another gig. We’re back at This Feeling, a regular haunt of TheZineUK doc, for the London leg of the Alive tour. A Water Rats theatre full of ace zone rangers checking out some up n coming near future shaper shakers.

A packed out show at an iconic venue. What’s not to love? Not only do we have a great evening catching Coco And The Lost, The Lilacs, The Chase (blurry snapshot!) and Serotones all on one bill, it’s always a buzz being in such a friendly bar and dance floor atmosphere. It’s escapism these days. Later, the hospitality from the first gig catches me up a few times (gonna use that as the excuse for that “photo”!), so I make an early exit straight after the sets. Much appreciation for the entertainment and the hospitality, to the second gig of the night, too. Xx

From catching Hawxx a few years ago with Bugeye, to them gracing the Deptford Mix Up all dayer here at Amersham Arms in Summer 2019, it’s a pleasure seeing a rock band progress over gigs time, doing their own thing with panache. As per Kick Out The Jams shows, various music industry in the house again for a start to finish night out of key live alternative rock music sets.

Thursday 18th November 2021. Not-so-still life in a New Cross boozer’s beer garden. Amersham Arms is a regular between-sets meet and greet zone for musicians and their allies, independent and otherwise.

Dublin’s Bullet Girl arrived at their first London gig in a motor-home, then won friends within the duration of a set with a frantic driven, dynamic roar.

18th November 2021 - Amersham Arms - Faux Pas ARE taking prisoners - us, the audience! “It’s like watching Prince play Placebo songs on acid” (Alive At Indie)

18th November: Hawxx, Faux Pas, Bullet Girl, Amersham Arms As previously mentioned, Kick Out The Jams, sponsored by Rotor Videos, is an interdependent live music club where artists, audiences, industry and media reshape the now and next. Always fellow musicians out in support. This evening, one of our regular photographers, Robyn Skinner is in New Cross before her own gig (with Bugeye) the following night. VIDEOS X THE BLACK LION X THEZINEUK indie/rock festivity - 18+

Friday 19th November 2021 - yessss! Get to enjoy Chemtrails in the flesh. A band discovered via the brill Balcony Online Festival series in Lockdown. Tonight, they are special guests of Bugeye’s sold out mega-party headline at The Grace. This is my least blurred “art” from the night, so just one shot but oh, what a show. The joy of hearing Bugeye’s debut,LP, ’ live… find Rhiannon Nevada’s magical pix from this evening!

It was a proper concert flavoured SHOW, with BUGEYE channelling all your favourite pop star bands punked up, rocked up and powered up! The stage was not just set for a glam party, it was decorated for a disco festivity of the Ready Steady Bang variety. Huge crafted songs, yes, but there was added emotion at a lockdown saviour album, performed live. We’re n the same room singing, dancing, cheering. Treasure musicians, they’re magicians.

A fun day out with a friend. The musical.

28th November 2021. The sun shone on creative fun! Wanted: A firm chain for a pocket watch. My friend Ag fixed a broken one, Anita brought her guitar amp. We got to enjoy a video creating day, together. Chilled and thrilled.

November 2021 A few years ago, the “media” cropped Vanessa Nakate from a photograph of young climate justice activists. Journalism by morons does favours to nobody. We are all on the same planet and there is only one race, human. Deal with it. I hope we can go forward together for greener and more pleasant futures. To all the environmental warriors fighting hardest for us, thank you.
