SACRED SPACE Competition
Collaboration with Eduardo Dugaich and Marcos Bresser
A place for all different creeds and beliefs; for all different people; for all different religions; for all humankind. A place for all. To create the desired landmark for Tanaff, we believe that the ideal site for the intervention is the place where the old sacred building stands, for several reasons: > it sets a perspective allowing the new building to be seen by locals and visitors from the main street; > It prioritizes the gathering of people, over the efficiency and rationality of traffic; > by respecting the design´s imprint, passersby will have to follow the outline, hardly missing its existence; > moreover, the connection of the place’s sacredness remains in the village people’s memory as it has been a holy place for long; > finally, on its northwest side, the new sacred building will face what today is already an open square, valuing this empty site, hopefully maintaining it unoccupied by constructions. Symbolically, the new building is structured as if the old one has had its roof simply turned upside down. Rather than a shelter from rain, it becomes a large rain-water collector, embracing nature as an ally. The design´s square form is not a coincidence. Whereas the conventional form of a religious space is usually linear to promote devotion to divine figures, herein the concentric form is meant to allow equal access from all sides, which reinforces the idea of togetherness regardless of beliefs. Summarizing the square and the new building configure three moments: the open-air space, the outer ring, and the inner space. 4

ELECTRIC STATION Competition - Projetar #019
Collaboration with Daniel Zahoul, Marcos Bresser, Murilo Zidan and Pedro Petry
The concept of the project starts in understanding that the car as one of the key ways of transportation is an old fashioned idea. The failure of the automotive system is observed by the logic of the car in detriment of the fluidity of the pedestrian in the cities, causing lots of problems related to citizens mobility. The aim of the project is not the extinction of the automotive vehicle, but to propose new ways of using them considering ideas such as sustainability, urbanity and technology, increasing urban and rural environments with new infrastructures which supports diverse men activities. The electric station is thought as a social catalyst: its not just as equipment dedicated to perform well energectically, but also intended to provide new situations that goes further than its original program/purpose. The requalification of public spaces and the diolog with the city, countryside and people is a plus, as it represents the technical and social solution for metropolitan issues. 8

VERTICAL FARM Competition - Projetar #006
Collaboration with Eduardo Dugaich and Marcos Bresser
The vertical farm is nowadays seen as an alternative to the lack of agricultural lands, case of metropolis as Singapore, where the cultivation of food in the rooftops of buildings is being explored. However, just in moments of need the idea comes as alternative. We propose the verticalization of the production of diverse kinds of food in huge urban centers where the concentration of people, vehicles and buildings has come to the edge. Vertical farming, therefore, is born to prevent mens future problems with the failure of the food system. 13
SOCIAL AND SPORTS CENTER Competition - CBCA 2015
Collaboration with Eduardo Dugaich, Fábio Carneiro and Marcos Bresser
The location of this project is set in a neighbourhood called Topolândia in the north shore of São Paulo State, where, as many other areas in the area, suffer with precarious social conditions. The objective of the construction of a social and sports facility is to go beyond than a simple shelter. It pretends to be a fundamental support to the whole community, configured with versatile spaces that permit not only sports practice, but many other cultural events, that might allow a diverse range of events scale. 14

COMMUNAL PRISON Competition - Projetar #012 Collaboration with Daniel Zahoul
The construction of a prison in the North zone of Maceiรณ, in Brazil, is a challenge that is set considering the location has already set an existent prison center, an university and a consolidated residential complex. In this way, our proposal comes to dialog with the preexistences in the best way possible, trying to enrich the urban site and to dissolve limits and rigid and segregated boundaries. Reading the brazilian prison system is the initial operation to design the project. The architecture here is aimed to promote the meeting between people, a concept of vital importance to any city that wants to rehabilitate is prisoners. The association between two concepts is, therefore, the core of the design proposal: the confinement and education, together, may bring hope to people and urbanity. 16

RESIDUE ISLAND ETSAM
Orientation: Federico Soriano
The work presented here is based in the graduation project of the danish architect Rem Koolhaas: “Exodus, or the voluntary prisoners of architecture. Basically, the project is a strip where distinct programs are disposed, and it functions as a huge island where those uses are connected in certain ways. The project was developed with 42 lots of 30mX30m each, being each student responsible by one lot. The main intent was to discuss and propose a big island outside what we call city. The idea was to understand in which way the negotiations with colleagues and beteween lots would contribute the produce a better or worse city. Koolhaas work is a great critic to the society and metropolis where citizes remais isolated in relation to the others, even if they are close or together. This segregation ad fragmentation turn to make a caotic city. 18

ILLUSTRATIONS MDB imagens
Collaboration with Eduardo Dugaich e Marcos Bresser
With the intention to promote our practice and work, we formed a trio: Thiago Maurelio, Eduardo Dugaich e Marcos Bresser. We started as freelancers in the field of renderings and illustrations for architecture students and offices. We started this projetc as independents and continue this way so on. A first competition we did together (Vertical Farm) brought unity to the trio. residential complex for a chinese competition: project by Alexis Aldrovandi and team 20
