WHY LIGHTING? “Good lighting design should produce as little light as possible. We talk alot about lighting technology, but we don’t talk about the night - and the preservation of the night. “ - Franck Franjou. Lighting is a fundamental aspect of architectural design - it is has major infuence on the experiential aspect of space and the experience of night. The relationshp between the physical architecture and the play of lighting is intricately intertwined. The designer must account for the play of light in the earliest stages of the design process - only then will a balance of material, untangible and technological be achieved in architecture.
WHY A WORKSHOP? The workshop will delve into different aspects of lighting design: it will explore both the conceptual side of lighting as well as the technological. The focus of the workshop is not just lighting but the “nature of the night. The workshop aims to embrace the concept of the night and how lighting aesthetics can be used to enhance and complement urban landscapes. A hands-on experience, with help from qualified speakers and tutors will introduce aspiring designers to the world of lighting and to guide them towards the future of lighting technolgy and design.
