In Africa, TreadRight helps to support a number of sustainable tourism projects. Wilderness Foundation Africa supports conservation agencies and organised private game reserves in protecting their rhino as part of a functioning natural ecosystem. The Wilderness Wildlife Trust spearheads projects that deal with the needs of existing wildlife populations, seeking solutions to save endangered species and providing communities with much needed education and training. Bushmans Kloof Rock Art protects and preserve over 150 sites of ancient bush art paintings and accordingly, it has been awarded the status of a South African Natural Heritage Site.
Clanwillian Cedar Trees is endeavouring to save the endemic and endangered Clanwilliam cedar tree in an annual tree planting ceremony in association with Cape Nature. The Cape Leopard Trust is an active predator conservation group inspiring interest in the environment through an interactive an dynamic environmental education programme. The Endangered Wildlife Trust implements interventions at several stages in the poaching and wildlife trade chain by elevating the risk associated with poaching rather than reducing the reward.
THOMPSONS AFRICA CONSERVATION STATEMENT: At Thompsons Africa we are mindful of the plight of wildlife across the globe and in Africa in particular. We are especially conscious of the importance of conserving our wildlife heritage. After all, we are blessed to be the caretakers of an abundance of wildlife that brings so many travellers to our shores. Thompsons Africa does not support any wildlife interaction that we deem to be unethical in either its purpose or in any way results in cruelty as a side effect. As a priority we ensure that we are 100% involved with our partnered wildlife organisations, and as a member of The TreadRight Foundation, we practise the promise to make the welfare of our wildlife our number one concern. Our endorsement of the SATSA Animal Interaction Charter further reinforces our commitment to an ethical approach to the long-term conservation of wildlife welfare.

Our visit is to Livingstone Island, a mere 10 minute river-boat ride away from shore, on the Zambezi River, a location for a most memorable lunch experience. The theatre of the experience and the extreme beauty of the views are matched only by the diversity of the bird life – it’s a wonderful way to soak up the African bush. You’ll be viewing the Falls from a unique vantage point, right at the point where the water thunders down a 100 metre drop. Nothing like a view of that magnitude to add to the flavour of drinks and lunch on Livingstone Island! Your Experience Highlights: • River boat experience • Zambezi River • Livingstone Island • Birdlife viewing • Refreshments and lunch
TOUR OF THE FALLS
SHORT TOUR – DEPARTS ZAMBIA Departs Daily at 08h30 & 14h30 • Duration: 1½ Hours It’s hard to believe. Six hundred and fifty million litres of water from the Zambezi River crashes with great aplomb into the chasm below, which is of course, why the locals call Victoria Falls, Mosi-oa-Tunya, the smoke that thunders. The smoke is the permanent mist, spray, even rain, which hangs over the Falls and the surrounding forest... and the thunder? You’ll hear it for yourself. The force and power of the Falls almost defies belief. We visit the Falls from the Zambian side, and when it’s in full flow, you’ll experience the showers from the crushing Falls below. Raincoats needed! Please Note: The Falls on the Zambian side may dry out seasonally (Sep – Dec). During this time we recommend you view the Falls on the Zimbabwean side. We also offer a combination tour which takes you to both the Zambian and Zimbabwean side of the Falls.

fronds swaying above you in the gentle breeze. The uncrowded beaches in both directions are lapped by warm, gentle turquoise waters. That’s the life! It’s postcard perfect! Maputo (formerly Lourenco Marques) still has the charm of an olde world Portuguese harbour city. In the old town, the maze of narrow streets is lined with 19th century buildings. Shop around for exotic spices, nuts and trinkets at the town’s lively markets, especially in the Costa do Sol. For art lovers, the National Art Museum has an intriguing collection of the work of Mozambique’s finest contemporary artists. Visiting Mocambique with Thompsons Africa means we do the work well, you do the holiday wonderfully. Sounds good?
