MANAGER’S NOTES
Welcome everyone to the Mundy Playing Fields for today's game against New College Academy. Welcome to any new visitors from New College, or those of your taking up our Non-League Day offer. We're back at the Mundys in league action after a lot of cup games and a cracking away win at Malmesbury. Thank you to everyone who came to Malmesbury, in my opinion you were all treated to a very good display of the fast attacking football we like to play. It's also good to come out of this period still in all of the cups. We will face Premier League side Binfield in the next round of the League cup here in a couple of weeks. We also await to find out our opposition in the next round of the floodlit cup after Carterton unfortunately folded. I hope you all enjoy today's game! Andy Davies, Manager 5

THORNBURY TOWN CLUB HISTORY It is understood that football has been played in Thornbury from around 1898 and formerly known as Thornbury Sports became Thornbury Town FC in the early 1970’s.
narrowly to Dursley Town. 2001-02 season saw the management team of Dave Wiffill and Steve Burbage take the reins, which brought instant success winning the Bristol Premier Combination title by 13 points and a return to the Gloucestershire County League. This followed a run of thirteen consecutive league wins a club record, which still stands to this day. The league and cup double eluded the club when they were defeated by Sea Mills in the League Cup Final.
Mundy Playing Fields has been the home of the club since the end of World War Two although changing facilities were sited in local places such as the Exchange Hotel, which is now The Knot of Rope. 1968-69 we became founder members of the Gloucestershire County League and spectator figures in excess of 500 were regularly recorded. In 1971 the club finished third in the Gloucestershire County League and was accepted into the Western League. However, due to difficulties in bringing the facilities up to the leagues required standards were unable to take the next step up. Relegation to the Bristol Premier Combination League unfortunately followed in 1976-77.
In preparation for the return to County League football the summer of 2002 saw a lot of hard work undertaken on the Mundy facilities with the building of dug-outs, improved drainage and revamping of the dressing rooms. All this work appeared to have been worth while with the club establishing itself back in the Gloucestershire County league with a creditable 7th league position for the next three seasons. Silverware did come our way in 2003-04 when we defeated Taverners on penalties, after a 2-2 draw, to lift the Stroud Charity Cup. The 2003-04 season, also saw the formation of an Under-18’s side under the management of Terry Payton in order to maintain Youth development within the club and they gained entry to the Gloucester County Youth League.
The following 20+ years saw Thornbury Town strive to regain their former status, never really threatening to take the Premier Combination title. The only success during these lean years was reaching the final of the GFA Senior Amateur Cup in 1985-86 and 198990 unfortunately on both occasions loser’s medals were received.
Following a number of indifferent seasons when relegation back to the Bristol Premier Combination league was only just averted in 2006–07, a new management committee and first team management were appointed.
During the late 1990’s, the Club maintained its strong focus on developing local talent and this eventually bore fruit in 1999 when the final of the Stroud Charity Cup was reached, losing 8
a thornburytownfc.co.uk tf @thornburytownfc Dave Lippiatt took over as first team manager, coming to the club from Sea Mills Park bringing with him Carl Derosa as his assistant. With an initial three / four year strategy, which came to fruition during the 2009-10 season when after a steady first half to the season a tremendous winning run of ten league games saw the Surridge Gloucestershire County League title won for the first time in the clubs history.
highest league position in the Gloucestershire County Youth League finishing runners-up, which was a tremendous achievement for the team and managers Simon Pirie and Mark Franklin. The 2014-15 season was a very successful season finishing 4th in the league and winning the Les James Cup for the first time in the Club’s history. Andy Davies continues to produce a team of quality which resulted in a third 4th-place in a row in Season 2016-17.
2010 also saw the milestone achievement of the long awaited coming together of the two local football clubs “Thornbury Town FC” and “Thornbury Falcons FC” now under one club management umbrella of Thornbury Town FC without losing the heritage and identity of Thornbury Falcons. This will further enhance the long term development within the local community for junior, youth and senior football.
2017-18 saw the club finally succeed in their quest win the Gloucestershire County League. After a lot of work behind the scenes to gain planning permission for the required ground improvements, the club were accepted into the Hellenic League for the first time in their history.
In the 2010-11 season the final of the Les James Cup Final was reached, which resulted in a penalty shoot-out disappointment against Henbury Town. 2013-14 saw the U18’s in their

NEW COLLEGE ACADEMY CLUB HISTORY New College opened in 1984 with a football team playing friendly football fixtures on Wednesday afternoons. Football developed into an Academy in 1996 and between then and 2002, when it became a Senior Club in its own right, New College explored joint ventures with Swindon Town FC, Forest Green Rovers and Swindon Supermarine. New College finished mid-table in their one season in the Hellenic League in 2002-03 before ground issues moved the club into the Wiltshire Football League.
from all of the major non league sides in the South West. This side is managed/ coached by Mick Burke and Adi Wilkinson. The open age squad now plays in the Uhlsport Hellenic Football League, step 6 of the non league pyramid. This side is managed by Mark Teasdale. Mark is assisted by his coach Matt Cosnett. Ian Howell, Matt Cosnett and Eric Stott work behind the scenes. Ian works as the club treasurer, Matt fulfils the role of club secretary and Eric works fulfilling the role of Match day Secretary for the Hellenic League side.
The academy is managed and coaching directed on a day to day basis by Ian Howell who is part of the Chelsea u21s as assistant manager. He is assisted by Matt Cosnett, a former college player and of Swindon Supermarine. Also by ex players Harvey Scholes and Ryan Elliott
The Charter Standard Scheme is best practice guide that sets standards of coaching, administration and child protection for all clubs outside the Football League and Premier League. As a benchmark for quality, it will improve the playing experience for all. New College Academy achieved this prestigious award in 2009.
Students join New College to follow an educational program for one, two or occasionally three years, together with their football coaching and competition. It is not an Old Boys club, although in any season one or two ‘leavers’ may continue before making the step up to what we hope is a higher level of football.
The FA Charter Standard Clubs program, supported by FA Community Partner McDonald's, was launched in February 2001 and is a core component of The FA Football Development program. The project is aimed at all clubs outside the Football League and Premier League, players, children and parents find a club in their local area that meets FA standards.
The academy currently runs three representative sides. The under 17's play in the Wiltshire Youth Floodlit league on Thursday nights. This side is managed by Mick Burke. The under 18’s play in the South West Counties Youth league versus academy sides 12

MATCH REPORTS THORNBURY TOWN 2 LANCASTLE (2)
HIGHWORTH TOWN DEV 0 Bluefin Sports Hellenic League Challenge Cup 1st Round
minute of the second period when Roque cross caused panic in the area but this seemed to be the wake up call they needed as they gradually pulled themselves into the game and Benjamin made a great run into the area to set up Craig Lancastle but Highworth keeper Holland was quickly off his line to save.
THORNBURY TOWN made it through to the second round of the Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup, but Highworth Town Development, on their first ever visit to the Mundy Fields proved to be a hard nut to crack. The visitors knocked the ball around well and Town struggled to gain any meaningful possession, with Parkin again pulling off a good save, this time to prevent Greive’s long range effort giving Highworth the lead.
Ten minutes in, Guest’s cross into the area found Luke Franklin, but his shot went wide of the post, but Town continued to increase the pressure on the visitors and they took the lead just after the hour mark when Wormwell outpaced his marker and his pass across the face of the goal was turned into his own net by a Highworth defender.
With the visitors enjoying the majority of the ball, Town had to defend in numbers and it wasn’t until midway through the half that they had their first effort on goal when Joe Guest’s shot was blocked.
The introduction of Harry Brock increased the pressure on the visitors defence and he and Wormwell linked up to set up Lancastle but his goalbound effort was deflected for a corner. Highworth’s chances were by now few and far between with Slinn firing wide when well placed, whilst with just a couple of minutes remaining Brock set up Matt Davis who screwed his shot wide with Holland beaten. However Davis made amends in stoppage time when he raced clear of the defence and calming lobbed the ball over the head of the advancing Holland and into the net.
Thornbury gradually worked their way into the game, and whilst they were able to get crosses into the visitors penalty area, accuracy was lacking and they couldn’t find the vital final touch although Brandon Benjamin and Marcus Wormwell both went close. Moments before the interval Highworth again went close with Parkin denying Slinn and then Guest clearing an effort from Greive. Guest again came to the rescue in the first 22
