MANAGER’S NOTES
Welcome everyone to the Mundy Playing Fields for this evening's GFA cup game against Stonehouse Town. First of all, I'd like to send our best wishes to Scott McLeod. It's one of the worst feelings at football seeing a player leave in an ambulance. At the time of writing this, we've learnt scan results were all clear which is great news. I'd also like to thank New College Academy for the great sportsmanship shown ensuring the game didn't have to be replayed. It feels like every other game is a cup game at the moment. After a run of 3 cup games, we finally had a league game on Saturday. A dominant 7-0 win meant we are now 3rd in the league. Now we have another 3 cup games, in the GFA, League and Subsidiary cups. All at home, so make sure you get down to the Mundys and show your support! I hope you all enjoy today's game! Andy Davies, Manager 5

THORNBURY TOWN CLUB HISTORY It is understood that football has been played in Thornbury from around 1898 and formerly known as Thornbury Sports became Thornbury Town FC in the early 1970’s.
narrowly to Dursley Town. 2001-02 season saw the management team of Dave Wiffill and Steve Burbage take the reins, which brought instant success winning the Bristol Premier Combination title by 13 points and a return to the Gloucestershire County League. This followed a run of thirteen consecutive league wins a club record, which still stands to this day. The league and cup double eluded the club when they were defeated by Sea Mills in the League Cup Final.
Mundy Playing Fields has been the home of the club since the end of World War Two although changing facilities were sited in local places such as the Exchange Hotel, which is now The Knot of Rope. 1968-69 we became founder members of the Gloucestershire County League and spectator figures in excess of 500 were regularly recorded. In 1971 the club finished third in the Gloucestershire County League and was accepted into the Western League. However, due to difficulties in bringing the facilities up to the leagues required standards were unable to take the next step up. Relegation to the Bristol Premier Combination League unfortunately followed in 1976-77.
In preparation for the return to County League football the summer of 2002 saw a lot of hard work undertaken on the Mundy facilities with the building of dug-outs, improved drainage and revamping of the dressing rooms. All this work appeared to have been worth while with the club establishing itself back in the Gloucestershire County league with a creditable 7th league position for the next three seasons. Silverware did come our way in 2003-04 when we defeated Taverners on penalties, after a 2-2 draw, to lift the Stroud Charity Cup. The 2003-04 season, also saw the formation of an Under-18’s side under the management of Terry Payton in order to maintain Youth development within the club and they gained entry to the Gloucester County Youth League.
The following 20+ years saw Thornbury Town strive to regain their former status, never really threatening to take the Premier Combination title. The only success during these lean years was reaching the final of the GFA Senior Amateur Cup in 1985-86 and 198990 unfortunately on both occasions loser’s medals were received.
Following a number of indifferent seasons when relegation back to the Bristol Premier Combination league was only just averted in 2006–07, a new management committee and first team management were appointed.
During the late 1990’s, the Club maintained its strong focus on developing local talent and this eventually bore fruit in 1999 when the final of the Stroud Charity Cup was reached, losing 8
a thornburytownfc.co.uk tf @thornburytownfc Dave Lippiatt took over as first team manager, coming to the club from Sea Mills Park bringing with him Carl Derosa as his assistant. With an initial three / four year strategy, which came to fruition during the 2009-10 season when after a steady first half to the season a tremendous winning run of ten league games saw the Surridge Gloucestershire County League title won for the first time in the clubs history.
highest league position in the Gloucestershire County Youth League finishing runners-up, which was a tremendous achievement for the team and managers Simon Pirie and Mark Franklin. The 2014-15 season was a very successful season finishing 4th in the league and winning the Les James Cup for the first time in the Club’s history. Andy Davies continues to produce a team of quality which resulted in a third 4th-place in a row in Season 2016-17.
2010 also saw the milestone achievement of the long awaited coming together of the two local football clubs “Thornbury Town FC” and “Thornbury Falcons FC” now under one club management umbrella of Thornbury Town FC without losing the heritage and identity of Thornbury Falcons. This will further enhance the long term development within the local community for junior, youth and senior football.
2017-18 saw the club finally succeed in their quest win the Gloucestershire County League. After a lot of work behind the scenes to gain planning permission for the required ground improvements, the club were accepted into the Hellenic League for the first time in their history.
In the 2010-11 season the final of the Les James Cup Final was reached, which resulted in a penalty shoot-out disappointment against Henbury Town. 2013-14 saw the U18’s in their

STONEHOUSE TOWN CLUB HISTORY Stonehouse Town Football Club, popularly known as the ‘Magpies’ because of their Black and White strip, starts at the Youth level, from 4 year olds, all the way through to under 18s, as well as girls' age groups u10s, 12s & 14s. Notwithstanding the youth section, the highly popular senior part of the club runs a 1st team in the Glos. County League, plus 3 teams across the Stroud League in Divisions 1, 4 and 7.
We were the first ever winners of the Glos. County League in 1968/9 season, but it has taken almost 30 years to re-enter the League after relegation in the early 80s. Promotion in 2014/5 was achieved via the Runners Up slot in Glos. Northern Senior League Division 1, under Haydn Murray’s managership, whereupon we were looking forward to cementing our place back in the County League, or even beyond. Season 2014/5 was also when we won a cup double via the Senior Amateur County Cup (1st time since 1976) and the Premier Section of Stroud Charity Cup, as well as reaching the Reg Davis Cup Final, where we lost 3-2 to Newent Town FC. Season 2015/6 saw a mid-season change of manager to Alex Lumsden, but it sadly saw us only finish 3rd in the League, insufficient to earn promotion out of the League.
Founded in 1898, and therefore this season celebrating their 120th birthday as a Club, the Magpies play at the stadium at Oldends Lane, Stonehouse, which was opened by England International Billy Wright on 25th August 1949 in a friendly v Cheltenham Town, and features the Mike Smith Stand dedicated to our longserving Secretary Mike ‘Spike’ Smith. During the Club’s heydays in the 1950s and 1960s, the Club regularly hosted attendances of over 1,000 spectators, and the record attendance there is 5,500 for a game against Gloucester City on 29th September 1951 in the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round.
A number of players have since moved on to bigger and better places, but the core of the team has stayed, determined to ensure the name of Stonehouse Town remains a strong part of the County League set-up for years to come. The appointment of new manager Ian Soule in October 2017 only serves to strengthen that aim, especially now that Ian can concentrate on his first full season at the Club.
The Club’s record Receipts for a single game was at the same game, when we received £272/8s/9d, worth £7854 in today’s money, although 6000 attended the 1962 Stonehouse Invitation XI v the All Stars Showbiz XI, which featured a range of (then!) huge celebrities such as Jimmy Young and Pete Murray!!

FRANKLIN, LANCASTLE, WORMWELL Thornbury made it four wins in five in all competitions after they put in one of their most dominant performances of the season against Malmesbury Victoria.
Thornbury got a penalty for themselves on the hour mark and Craig Lancastle sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to restore Thornbury’s lead.
Luke Franklin opened the scoring on 35 minutes after he latched on to a ball threaded through the middle of the Vics defence.
Marcus Wormwell then wrapped up the game with five minutes to go after Asher Budd linked up with Aaron Clarke and pulled the ball back to Wormwell just outside the six yard mark who’s deflected shot looped over two of the Malmesbury defenders.
Malmesbury were awarded a penalty a minute before half time when the ball adjudged to hit Pete Fowler on the arm despite Thornbury feeling it hit his chest. Shane Bumphrey finished from the spot to score his 14th of the season.

One West North Leigh United 0 Clanfield (85) 3 Clanfield completed a league double on Saturday against West Oxfordshire rivals North Leigh United when they ran out comfortable 3-0 winners on a blustery afternoon at the Eynsham Hall Sports Ground. After an even opening period when both sides created enough openings to take the lead it was Nathan Kimber that fired the Robins ahead. On thirty-eight minutes he found himself inside the penalty area with time and space to fire across the Leigh keeper and into the far righthand corner of the net, nothing more than the visitors deserved. Both sides continued to create several chances but with both defences on top there were no further goals before the interval. Ten minutes into the second period Kimber went about adding to his afternoon tally when firing a tremous long distance effort against the hosts cross bar. On sixty-nine minutes Clanfield doubled their lead and effectively ended the contest when Josh Gibbens found himself unmarked in the penalty area and thundered a header into the back of the home
