ROSTER MOVES Thorns FC announced several additional roster moves ahead of their May 11 match against Orlando. Portland has signed three additional players to its supplemental roster: forward Simone Charley, midfielder Emily Ogle and defender Madison Pogarch. Additionally, forward Hayley Raso has received her green card and no longer occupies an international roster spot. Midfielders Andressinha and Angela Salem have returned to Portland and have been added to the active roster, while Thorns FC waived forwards Mallory Weber and Ifeoma Onumonu.

VS. ORLANDO Saturday’s match is the second meeting of the season between Portland and Orlando, with Thorns FC recording a 2-0 win the first game of the season between the two sides on April 14. The two teams will play once more at Providence Park on July 14. Portland is 6-1-1 all-time against the Pride, including a record of 3-0-1 at Orlando City Stadium. Notably, Thorns FC have recorded three shutouts in four road matches against the Pride. Portland has scored at least two goals in all six of their victories against Orlando. Additionally, four different players have scored a goal in the last two road wins against the Pride.

MATCH PREVIEW Continuing their six game road stretch to begin the season, Portland Thorns FC travel for a road match against the Orlando Pride. Saturday’s match marks the second meeting between the two sides in the first five weeks of the season. Portland won the previous meeting 2-0 on April 14 - the season-opening match for both sides. Saturday’s match is the fourth consecutive road match and the final trip to Orlando in regular-season play. Thorns FC are coming off a bye week, while the Pride are playing their sixth game of 2019.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME Playing their home matches at downtown Portland’s iconic Providence Park, Thorns FC have led the league in attendance in each of their first six NWSL seasons. Globally, Thorns FC have the highest attendance of any women’s professional team in the world, averaging 16,959 fans in their sixth season in the league in 2018. On Sept. 22, 2018, Thorns FC recorded their sixth sellout in club history for the 2018 NWSL Championship game between Portland and the North Carolina Courage - the largest crowd for a U.S. women’s professional soccer championship match.

HEAD COACH MARK PARSONS A finalist for 2018 Best FIFA Women’s Coach of the Year, head coach Mark Parsons is currently in his fourth season with Thorns FC. Since joining the club ahead of the 2016 season, Parsons has helped lead Portland to an NWSL Championship (2017) and NWSL Shield (2016) and back-to-back NWSL Championship appearances (2017, 2018), while compiling a mark of 39-14-18 (.676) and 12 or more wins in each of his first three seasons with the club. On May 25, 2018, Parsons became the third coach in league history to register 50 career wins. During his tenure, Thorns FC have finished in the top two in the NWSL regular-season standings in three consecutive seasons, winning the club’s first NWSL Shield in 2016, and the second NWSL Championship in club history in 2017, while helping Portland secure a home playoff match in in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Under Parsons, Thorns FC have secured one of the top home-field advantages in the league, registering just five losses at Providence Park since his arrival (24-5-5) while also becoming the first team in league history in 2017 to record 10 home victories. In just his second season with the club, Parsons helped Portland lift the NWSL Championship trophy behind one of the most dominant defensive performances in league history. Thorns FC tied the singleseason record for the top defense in NWSL history, posting a 0.83 goals-against average, while also equaling the mark for the most home shutouts (7) in a single season. In addition, Thorns FC finished the 2017 regular-season campaign ranked first in fewest goals conceded (20), fewest goals conceded at home (8) and fewest goals conceded on the road (12). The 2016 NWSL Coach of the Year in his first season with Thorns FC, Parsons led Portland to the NWSL Shield. With Parsons at the helm, Thorns FC finished the season with a 12-3-5 record as they hosted the club’s first-ever home playoff game. In addition, Portland registered the best home record (8-1-1) and best road record (4-2-4) in the league, while beginning the season with the second-longest unbeaten streak in league history (12 games). Parsons oversaw a defensive unit that became just the third team in league history to allow less than a goal per game over the course of an entire season (19 goals in 20 games, 0.95 goals-against average) and offensively the team ranked second in the league in goals (35) and tied for second in assists (23). Prior to joining Thorns FC, Parsons served as the head coach and general manager of the Washington Spirit of the NWSL, helping guide the Spirit to consecutive playoff appearances during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Assuming the role of head coach in July 2013 and general manger in September 2013, Parsons helped engineer one of the most successful turnarounds in league history as the Spirit went on to a 10-win season and secured a berth in the league playoffs in 2014 after winning just three games the previous season. In addition, the Spirit Reserves won the W-League Championship, the U20s were national finalists and five Super Y Academy teams were also national finalists with Parsons at the helm as general manager. As the head coach of the Spirit Reserves in 2013, Parsons led the team to a third-place finish at the National Championships, while also helping launch the club’s academy programs. In 2012, Parsons helped guide the D.C. United Women U20s to the National Championship match, earning a runner-up finish. From 2014-10, Parsons worked with Chelsea FC girls and boys academies, while also serving as the head coach for the Chelsea Ladies Reserves from 2008-10 and as an assistant coach with the U16 Girls Academy. The Cranleigh, Surrey, native holds UEFA A and B Licenses, a US Youth Soccer National Youth License and US Soccer B License. Mark, his wife, Hannah, and their daugther Edie (5) reside in Portland.

FOUR NAMED TO USWNT ROSTER FOR WORLD CUP Tobin Heath, Lindsey Horan, Emily Sonnett and Adrianna Franch were all named to the 23-player roster to represent the USWNT at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, beginning June 7. It marks the third time Heath has been named to the World Cup roster, appearing in the 2011 and 2015 tournament, while its the first apppearance for Horan, Franch and Sonnett.

NEW FACES Simone Charley, Emily Ogle and Madison Pogarch are new additions to the supplemental. Charley played at Vanderbilt, Pogarch at Rutgers in 2018 after three seasons at Central Michigan and Ogle featured for Penn State. Notably, Charley was also an All-American in the triple jump.

Portland extended its unbeaten stretch to begin the season to three games, earning a 2-2 draw on the road against Sky Blue FC on April 28. Trailing by two goals after 18 minutes, Thorns FC answered scoring two goals in a two-mintue span to level the match in the 34th minute with a goal from Tobin Heath. Emily Sonnett opened the scoring for Portland in the 32nd minute, converting from close range on a pass from Sinclair, while Heath delivered an impressive back-heel goal to help secure the draw.

AUSSIES IN THE ATTACK In her first three matches for Portland, Caitlin Foord has tallied a goal and one assist.
