ROSTER MOVES Thorns FC announced several additional roster moves ahead of their May 11 match against Orlando. Portland has signed three additional players to its supplemental roster: forward Simone Charley, midfielder Emily Ogle and defender Madison Pogarch. Additionally, forward Hayley Raso has received her green card and no longer occupies an international roster spot. Midfielders Andressinha and Angela Salem have returned to Portland and have been added to the active roster, while Thorns FC waived forwards Mallory Weber and Ifeoma Onumonu.
VS. WASHINGTON Portland and Washington square off in the first of three meetings this season between the two sides and the only road match for Thorns FC against the Spirit in the 2019 regular season. Portland leads the all-time series with a record of 9-2-5, including a record of 4-2-2 in road matches. Thorns FC are unbeaten in their last five matches (4-0-1) against Washington. Portland posted a record of 2-0-1 during the 2018 season, with a pair of 1-0 wins on the road against Washington. Ellie Carpenter scored her first career NWSL goal against the Spirit on May 19, 2018.

MATCH PREVIEW Saturday’s match marks the fifth road game as part of six consecutive road matches to begin the season for Portland. Thorns FC are the only remaining unbeaten team in the NWSL this season. Portland enters this week as one of the top scoring team’s in the NWSL and is currently tied for the league lead with 11 goals, having scored two or more goals in each of their first four games. Washington ranks near the bottom of the NWSL in goals scored (5), but has allowed just three goals this season, which is the second fewest in the NWSL.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME Playing their home matches at downtown Portland’s iconic Providence Park, Thorns FC have led the league in attendance in each of their first six NWSL seasons. Globally, Thorns FC have the highest attendance of any women’s professional team in the world, averaging 16,959 fans in their sixth season in the league in 2018. On Sept. 22, 2018, Thorns FC recorded their sixth sellout in club history for the 2018 NWSL Championship game between Portland and the North Carolina Courage - the largest crowd for a U.S. women’s professional soccer championship match.
