Troubles We All Have Them 2 Corinthians 4:17 For our light affliction ( or troubles), which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, Psalm 25:17 The troubles of my heart have enlarged; Bring me out of my distresses! Psalm 25:22 Redeem Israel, O God, Out of all their troubles! Galatians 5:10 I have confidence in you, in the Lord, that you will have no other mind; but he who troubles you shall bear his judgment, whoever he is. I am writing this because recently I went through some trouble and I needed a reminder myself. When life goes along pretty much as we think it should, we tend to keep our eyes on what is right in front of us –our work, the game against our rival team, struggles at school. That’s not to say we love God less or don’t long to know him better, it simply takes great commitment to think beyond the here and now for very long. How do we respond to a crisis? Sudden Death of our dear ones, financials breakdowns, losing job, family problems, accidents, sickness, betray , violence, and so on and so forth can cause depression and distress in life. In time times like these we whisper “why O God” “where is God?” Sometimes we are attacked by the enemy in our weakest moments. When we are confronted by intimidating situations and events, our enemy creates more confusion, makes us weaker and helpless and pushes us to hopelessness. How do we respond to such a Troubles? Too often, we fail to view troubles with an eternal perspective. At some point, we all will face hardships, losses, and painful circumstances. We all are going to have troubles in our lives, and we can profit from them if we respond correctly.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. When Paul was writing these words in his second letter to the church at Corinth, he mentions “light and momentary troubles.” Go back a few verses and see what these light and momentary troubles were. In verses 8-9: “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” Isn’t it amazing that he calls these just light and momentary troubles? Here is the bottom line — while we may encounter troubles in many forms and in varying degrees, it is easy to get our eyes focused on the troubles. When our attention becomes preoccupied by troubles, we have a hard time seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. That is why some people seem to go from one stressful situation to another. It is important that we look beyond the trouble and see that a blessing is waiting for the believer. We may be troubled, but at the same time we must remember that we are also blessed. My prayer is that you will surrender to the grace and love of the Father, even in the midst of adversity. Then you will be able to turn each crisis of your life into an amazing opportunity to see Him work. Therefore saints, be of good cheer! -your best days are yet to come!
Apostle Paul began 2 Corinthians 4:1-2 with a positive proclamation “Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. “(2 Corinthians 4:1) Therefore” is part of the answer, because it points us forward to what Paul is about to say. When Paul considered the greatness of his calling, it gave him the heart to face all his difficulties. We often lose heart because we do not consider how great a calling God has given us in Jesus. HD’s fabulous key fobs
o you finally found some time to take your bike out for that much needed time in the wind. You give your bike the once over before you head out to your local watering hole or that stretch of road that takes your mind off all the stress that everyday life brings. Some time into your ride it’s time to take a pit stop. After you grab a bite or finish that drink you hop back on your bike to finish your ride. You put the key in the ignition, turn the key on, hit the starter button, nothing. Your lights are on ,your, stereo is working but no click, no grunt, nothing! If you’re lucky you aren’t too far from home, but we all know that we are never that lucky. Time to whip out the cell phone and call that buddy that has a truck or a trailer, he’s probably standing right next to you considering you asked him to go riding with you. time to call the tow truck and spend the cash you were saving to put towards something better than this. Do you happen to have one of those key fobs hanging on your keychain, you know the one you got when you bought your bike? When was the last time you changed the battery in that thing? I’ve had at least a dozen bikes get towed in because of that little 5 dollar battery that everyone overlooks. So if you have one of those fobs make sure you change it periodically so it doesn’t add to the stress you’re trying to ride away from. Thanks for reading SLADE

Sippin Shine with Hillbilly And Bryan Jackson
I
t would be a lie to say that all my life I have wanted to grow up and own my own cigar company. It would not be a lie to say that in my adult dreams. I can honestly say this would be one of the coolest jobs in the world. In the first place I would have no idea how to even begin a cigar company. Where do you get the tobacco? Who picks it? Who rolls it? Where does it go next? How does it get to the store so I can buy it? I really didn’t know the answer to any of these questions. That’s why it was so cool that I got to meet Bryan Jackson of Jaxsin Cigars. What is even better is that he turned out to be a real nice guy. I spent the day talking to him at Cigar Station in Springhill, Tennessee. At the time his tavern residence line of cigars was just out. He had a light and medium body cigar. Since this interview his full body cigar has come out. I have read a few reviews and his smokes have gotten good reviews. I will tell you later in the interview if they meet the Hillbilly Standard. HB-Do you ride bikes? Do you own a bike? Do you like bikes?
BJ- I do not own a bike. I have ridden bikes. I don’t plan on getting a bike anytime soon. After all I’m pretty busy with the cigar company. HB- I guess the obvious questions are how and why did you decide to start a cigar company in Springhill Tennessee? BJ- I am a life long cigar smoker. I love it. I went out to a big cigar show and ended up getting inspired to start the company. Everything was in the right place in my life to do it at the time. I met a couple of cigar manufacturers and they gave me a lot of encouragement. I have a business background and got the whole business side of it together and then started to work on the blending side. I’m about to have my third blend of cigar released in the next 30 days and I’m very excited about it. It’s been fun getting started. HB- Springhill Tennessee. This is not the cigar capital. I guess I just expected cigar companies to be in Nicaragua or the Dominican Republic, or Miami, or even Cuba. I just didn’t expect to find a cigar manufacturer in a small town in a 12
state that is land locked. BJ- It really knows no bounds. It doesn’t matter where you hang your hat. This is where I’m based and I run the whole operation from here. Your right about all the great tobacco coming from all those different countries and I work with a lot of different tobacco companies to get the different blends. HB- Do you go and select the tobacco you want? How does this process work? BJ- What I did was I surrounded myself with people that are a lot smarter than me in the tobacco field. I needed to find people that I really trust in the industry from all different sides. The growing side, the sales side, the retail side, and the distribution side plus different owners. This gives me a great group of people to bounce ideas off. Then some of the owners turned me onto their factories which helped me a lot. This saved me from having to cold call places to get started and also saved some trial and error parts. I had a lead in and kind of knew what I liked and from there felt the process out. HB- So I guess the next question is do you have 10 little oompah loompahs somewhere rolling cigars? BJ- No, it depends on the factory. To begin with I did a lot of the blending work here in the states. This helped to keep costs down and so that when I got over there I wouldn’t be taken for a ride and left for dead some place. This way I could put my ideas to work and I sort of knew what I liked in a smoke and the blend I was looking to achieve. So I started working with factories and getting samples in and gauge what I had before I got down there and had a better idea of what I was doing and looking for when I got to the Dominican Republic. I do have a factory that rolls for me in Honduras but it’s not in the best of town so I don’t visit very much. I have rollers from all walks of life that work in the factories and help get my cigar out. HB- Let’s pretend I have never smoked or heard of cigars, how does a cigar get from the ground to the store and in AUGUST 2014
my humidor waiting for me to smoke it? BJ- It goes through lots of places. Obviously it starts in a field. I work with the manufacturers that own the shops and they will purchase the tobacco that you want in different quantities and so on. They will blend and roll them and keep the recipe and they will keep the special ingredients at that factory. You can think of it like cigars 31 flavors. Then they go the roller factory and they roll them and put my bands on them and make my boxes to my specifications and then they leave the factory by freighter or cargo plane and start the journey thru customs to the consumer. After they are in the U.S., I work to get them to my humidors and out to my stores that are currently selling Jaxsin cigars. That is a quick overview of what it takes to bring cigars here. It’s not as easy as that sounded. HB- So you have humidors all over your house. What do you have like 100? Are they in every room even the bathroom? Sounds good to me. BJ- I have a lot at the house but I have a company that helps me fulfill orders and keeps them in a large humidor. They also help out with some of the distribution as well. HB-What did you do when you started? I doubt you started with 5000 cigars or did you? BJ- It varies with each manufacturer. At the beginning I went with some of the smaller factories. That way I can get smaller runs and not have to get THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC
10,000-15,000 cigars at a time. I like small monthly orders right now and hopefully I can grow into orders like that someday. Then it starts with getting cigar shops to sell your cigars and getting them to like you and your cigars. Now I’m branching out by word of mouth and social media and hopefully people like what they are smoking. HB- Ok you have started out here at home. How many stores are your cigars in? Where can people find these Jaxsin cigars? BJ - We are based here in the Nashville area for right now. We are currently in about 30 stores and growing each day. That was really my focus slow growth in my first year. We started about a year and a half ago and have had cigars for about one year now. HB- Where do you see the company going next year and in the future? BJ - The first year I concentrated on the middle Tennessee area and next year we will be looking to expand outside of Tennessee. I would like slow controlled growth if that’s possible. The Jaxsin cigar line which are called tavern residence (named by his ten
THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC
year old son) are a good smoke for any seasoned cigar smoker or a first time smoker. There is a light, medium, and full body smoke. One of these is sure to please any smoker. I smoked quite a few during a weekend charity event and I’ve got to say I really like the smoke and can’t wait for them to be available in Maryland, Delaware, and West Virginia. They are more than fair with their price as well. If you get a chance to Smoke a Jaxsin cigar do it. You will not be disappointed. If you are interested in selling Jaxsin cigars please contact us at Thunder Roads for more information.
Dog. God Bless you all. Remember our armed forces and their families in your thoughts and prayers. It’s time for Ole Blue and me to sit on the porch and rock awhile. We got our shine and our Jaxsin cigars. It’s gonna be a great evening. Hillbilly
The best part of this column is the chance to meet people from all walks of life. I really enjoy bringing their stories to you all. Bryan Jackson of Jaxsin cigars is a great person and I know his company is going to do well. After talking with Bryan even if you don’t smoke cigars you will want to start because of his excitement and love of cigars. I’m glad I got the chance to find out about the cigar business. Now remember kids when you are drinking of the shine, stand in a circle, lose the lid, and always share with friends. I always save a little for the Big

United we stand. This Saturday, July 12th, was proof of that. This was the Coalition of Clubs first major event and wow did it turn out fantastic. Because of the hard work of the coalition and the committee formed to turn out this event, I am sure there were at least 400 people there. Over 30 clubs represented from across the state. Even clubs from out of state. The VFW post 467 in Westminster couldn’t have been better to us. They provided the food and alcohol and did a fine job considering the huge amount of people who came out. A huge thank you to them. This is a fine example of what can happen when bikers have had enough and decide to unite as one to stand up for their rights. I am so very proud to have been a part of this history making event. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the COC. I had several people come up to me and ask me why this is happening now and it never happened in the past. Personally, I think it is because of what is happening in the world and across our country. Our rights in general are being impinged upon and removed from us as citizens stand by and do nothing to stop it. Bikers have never been ones to just stand by and watch. I think with the way of the world now, bikers are fed up. We have had enough. It is time to stand as one and take care of business. This event proved
THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC
just how powerful we can be if every biker in the country stands together. If we can come together in such short notice and put on such a powerful event, just think what we can do with time. We have all agreed that we are now on the same page and will stand up as one united team to battle our issues such as profiling and motorcycle only checkpoints. I see great things to happen in the future. I am so very proud to be a biker. I am proud to work with such wonderful clubs. Of course with all positive there comes negative. I have had people criticize me for working with the clubs. People who I thought were on our side. People who stood on the sidelines and waited for the clubs to come to us instead of reaching out to them. I am happy that I have a great relationship with clubs around the country and will never apologize for it. It is the best thing ABATE of Maryland has done in a long time. We are a motorcycle rights organization and that is what we do. We defend all motorcyclists. Including clubs. No matter what type of club. It makes no difference. Great things are about to happen. CIGAR REVIEW In May of this year a young upstart released the last blend in his debut line the tavern residence. Bryan Jackson and his company Jaxsin Cigar Co. out of Tennessee have stated that they built the company around “a love of cigars” and by the beauty I hold in my hand I can see they weren’t just blowing smoke. The last in the tavern residence line is also slated to be the most full bodied yet; however with a deceptively light colored wrapper I have my questions. The blend sounds delicious on paper with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper that while light in color is quite oily and inviting. The binder is a Dominican Criollo that holds a bounty of Nicaraguan Ligero long fillers that are sure to pack a punch. As I take the cigar up for review out I look it over, it is a Gordo size (6.0’’x 60); and has a double band a foot band that states simply tavern residence and an upper band that has Jaxsin scrawled atop a four leaf clover on shield. The construction is tight but upon the cut the draw is free and aromatic. Once you light this great smoke you will come to realize that it has some power. It begins with pepper and cocoa and a delightful spicy finish that lingers for a few moments after the pull. The pepper fades as you make your way into the body of the cigar and boy does this hefty stogie have body. Toward the middle some smooth coffee and cedar notes as well as a strange yet refreshing sweetness can be detected along with the nice spicy finish. The construction is impeccable with a razor sharp burn line and a firm never flaky ash the draw
remained open and consistent for the full length. Toward the end of your one and a half hour smoke, you taste the return of pepper as well as some new earthy tones. All this wrapping up with the now all too familiar spicy finish should have you feeling saddened that your trip will soon be over. Well I must say that at a $10.00 price point this cigar has some stiff competition from some heavy hitters in the industry, however a cigar this good can hold its own with the big boys and beat them given time. I sincerely hope you grant yourself the opportunity to enjoy this great cigar as I have, ask for it at your local brick and mortar (cigar shop) or track down Hillbilly at a Thunder Roads MD-DE-DC Review Provided by our man Flynn

K.I.S.S. page composed & edited by: Toni McCoy Shearon aka “MaMa Thunder” of Thunder Roads Tennessee i have chosen this name for our monthly recipe page, as that was what my mother, rest her soul, always used to say when I would assist her in the kitchen. mom was an avid supporter of the kiss (keep it simple sweetie) method of cooking. i now, more than ever, truely appreciate her philosophy of always taking shortcuts where you can, as long as your ultimate outcome is that of down home, labor of love cooking.
K.I.S.S. page composed & edited by: Toni McCoy Shearon aka “MaMa Thunder” of Thunder Roads Tennessee “MY” BACON, EGG, VIDALIA ONION, SWISS CHEESEBURGER WITH AN EASY-OVER EGG ON TOP *I have been making these since I was 10 y.o. Thought I invented them, then saw it on some cooking show. Who Knew? 1 Ground Beef Burger - however you like it; thick or thin, but shape it the size to fit your bun and then push down gently in the middle with your thumb so it will cook evenly. 4 Strips of Hickory-Smoked Bacon 1 X-Large Egg 2 Slices of Baby Swiss Cheese 5 Strips of Vidalia Onion, sauteed’ golden brown Now, you can grill your burger or fry it in a skillet, and saute’ your onions up while frying burger and pick them out and drain on paper towel. Put your cheese on burger, add a little water to pan and cover with lid (keeps moist & melts cheese fast), remove & drain on paper plate; pile your onions on top, fry your egg in the grease, flip gently and remove to a paper plate. Butter your buns and toast in the oven. A toasted bun makes ANY burger better. Now just build your burger and put the easy-over egg on top and your favorite topping; mayo, ketchup, whatevva. I break the yoke and let it run all down over the burger. Woooeeee! damn, this is slap-ass good! THE ABSOLUTE BEST BATTER FOR FRYING ANYTHING! Compliments to: Michael Symon of The View - ABC (Handwritten while watching) 1/2 Cup of Cornstarch 1/2 Cup of All-Purpose Flour 1/2 tsp. Baking Powder 2 Tbls. of Old Bay Seasoning (spice aisle or often by seafood display) Ask grocery clerk 1 tsp. Cayenne Pinch of Salt 1/4 Cup of Pilsner Beer (will say on label) 1/4 Cup of Water 1/2 Cup of Vodka This better is awesome for Vidalia Onion Rings! * Always use Peanut Oil for frying. It just holds temperature better and gives a good, clean taste. Don’t re-use oil. Always use fresh so your food doesn’t taste like what you last fried.

IT AINT SUMMER WITHOUT DOWN-HOME NANER’ PUDDING Banana Pudding: Mix in a cooled glass bowl 1 Box of Vanilla Pudding Mix 1/2 Cup of Whole Milk 1 Whole Can of Condensed Milk 1 Level tsp. of Nutmeg 1 Container of Frozen Whipped Topping (If you want seriously better taste, make your own whip cream with 2 Cups of Confectioner’s Sugar to 1 Cup of Heavy Whipping Cream and 1 Tbl. of pure Vanilla Extract. Just keep blending on High until stiff peaks form and then stop or it will all turn back to liquid.) Tastes SO much better though than the pre-made. And it’s so easy! 1 Box of Nilla’ Vanilla Wafer Cookies 4 Bananas; sliced into 1/4 inch rounds Mix all ingredients together. Folding in the whipped cream gently towards the end on low. Mix should be creamy, not runny. In a larger glass serving bowl, place a layer of the wafer cookies. Spread 1/4 of the pudding mix over the cookies. Lay 1/2 the banana slices over the pudding mix in a single layer. Spread another 1/4 of the pudding mix over the bananas. Repeat. Place any remaining cookies on top, but break them up into halves, but cover completely. Refrigerate at least 3 hours or or overnight. Great serving idea: Serve in big spoonfuls into very large but squat heavy glasses or into Mason Jars and add a scoop of high-quality Vanilla icecream for every great big spoonful of Nanner’ Pudding. This is perfect for summer! COOL & EASY WATERMELON FIZZIES 2 Cups of Watermelon; cubed 1 Ounce of Gin 2 Tbls. of Fresh Lime Juice 1/3 Cup of Ginger Ale Full Lime Slices for Garnish Puree the watermelon cubes & strain Pour back into blender and add other ingredients If want a stronger mix, add more gin, want it lighter, add more Ginger Ale. For kicks, scoop out some watermelon balls; freeze and add to a chilled martini glass when serving up your mouthwatering Watermelon Fizzies. These are fun and delicious! WORK HARD. PLAY HARD. SUMMER FUN !

FEATURED CLUB:
FREE RIDERS MC It is often said that the best ideas come about because of a need. The idea behind the formation of The Free Riders was similar to how quite a few businesses and organizations have evolved in the past. In 2003, five guys who loved to ride got together at a local watering hole and scratched out some ideas on a cocktail napkin. The five founding members had the desire to form a new club but wanted to be different from some of the clubs they were in or familiar with at the time. Riding and working on charitable causes was high on their list… riding together for enjoyment but with a purpose in mind to help others in need, was a primary goal. Coming up with the name for the club was the easy part since all of the guys believed in Freedom; of the road, from tyranny and oppression, and in our choices. “Free” is our foundation and belief but riding is our passion. We are a riding club in the truest sense. One of the main requirements to join is you must ride an American made motorcycle. Every weekend that the weather agrees, we have a scheduled or pick-up ride. Through our mass-text tree, the members are in constant contact with each other setting up places to ride to or just getting in the wind. Each has a special skill set that allows us to accomplish any type of project or task. We range from contractors, electricians, plumbers and such to company owners and executives. The way we interact shows our careers are not a boundary. We all have the same love of riding, charity and fun. One of the guiding principles of our club is stated constantly at meetings in order of importance: Family, Job, Club. Our first clubhouse was an old landscape office trailer that one of the guys knew was available for free. It had no heat, no water and no electric. If we needed to take a leak, we went to the nearest tree or bush. Pretty rudimentary but it was a start. Our biggest achievement that first year was one of the guys was given a generator. We finally had heat and lights but the unit worked every now and then. Our meetings were short because we never knew when the lights would go out. Those formative years were tough but our hearts and minds were in it to stay. We knew if we stuck with it, we could make a difference in somebody’s life. Our founding President, Flattop, had a vision, energy and drive to succeed that propelled us forward. He was truly the guiding force in getting us to the next level and served for the first ten years. He surrounded himself with a core group that believed in the concept of “Ride Free, Live Free” which is proudly stated on our Cuts. That core group, Flattop (Pres, Ret.), Joker (VP), Buzz (Treasurer) and DUI (Officer, Ret.) are 24
still involved day to day. The first couple of years were spent talking with other riders and relating our vision of how the club would work. We would pick up a few members here and there and lose a few, too. Pretty tough when the message is new and there are so many other choices. Eventually we got to the organizational point where we felt we were making progress towards being the real deal. We wrote our By-laws and specific guidelines for how we would act in the public eye. There was an official patch set designed and refined and the decision was made that we wanted to be completely different than most of the area clubs. We started this club to express our freedom and it was decided then that we would be totally independent. Our Cuts would not be State specific but would proudly state that we are “Independent”. The center cut had to be different from other clubs and was chosen from a number of depictions of Bald Eagles. It was refined and is totally unique in design. We also designed a specific rocker for our women and they wear it proudly. We held our first elections for President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Events Coordinator and Road Captain. It seemed like there were more officers and title holders at first, than regular members. But we were growing and grow we did. The biggest change came when one of the founding members built a garage for his business and decided that we should also construct a clubhouse on the second floor. One of the many hurdles a new club has is becoming legitimate in others eyes and until you have a clubhouse, you’re not looked at as genuine club. The clubhouse is fitted out into a large room with a bar, pool table, restroom and big screens. It’s in a rural area where we can raise some hell but not disturb too many folks and still close enough to get to civilization. It was large enough to initially hold our annual Christmas, Halloween and summer parties but we have started to outgrow the space as a place for our larger events. Our list of charities has grown over the years and has included Children’s Hospital, COPS, Wounded Warriors, Baby’s Bounty and the Patty Pollatos Fund. We are also approached on a regular basis by individuals who are in need, either for presents for needy kids at Christmas or a special request. One of the best feel good stories I like to relate was when a family in dire need approached us with a very sad tale. Their little 8 year old girl was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo chemo, resulting in the loss of her

hair. She was in grade school and kids being kids, she was being teased about losing her hair. We happily purchased a couple of wigs for her. I have never seen such a beaming smile from a kid in my life. If that doesn’t move you to help others, nothing will. Now some of you might be thinking that we have some great ideas but where’s the fun. Believe me we laugh hard, play hard but work hard too. We have now grown to three different state chapters in Maryland, Delaware and West Virginia, though we stake no claim to a territory, and our membership is well over 50. Our current President, Tink, has the same energy, drive and vision that Flattop brought to the table. He has been instrumental in growing the club in size and territory. We have now been approached by riders in other states who agree with our philosophy of giving and want to join us. We have set our sights on getting our message out to everyone through local media and events and are working hard to gain the respect of other bikers and the community as a whole. If you have a desire to make a difference in people’s lives and love to ride, don’t mind some hard work and love the feeling of a Brotherhood, please contact us. You can view our website at www.freeridersimc.com. Our biggest fund raiser of the year is coming up on September 20. Please refer to our flyer elsewhere in this edition. One thing is certain, we will continue to grow and keep the shiny side up. G Man Quartermaster

1977 Iron Head Sportster Dual Engine (2000cc) Started with 1 totaled bike and 1 basket case. Bikes were not worth restoring, so I figured I would try and put 2 together. Very few new parts. Tried to do everything cheap, even gas tank was found painted for $200.00 The only thing custom I did not make was the throttle cable. Cycle tech made that for me. Build all at home for a total investment of $3600.00

id you know that per information available from the Government of Canada online, that there were nearly Two Million crimes committed in their nation in 2012? I wish I could tell you how many were committed by Bikers, but I can’t seem to find that information. But know this for a fact. If you or your club has been deemed a “menace” or affiliated with, or associated with any MC Nation they disapprove of, or they otherwise just don’t like you, there is more than a good chance that should you decide to take that fishing trip to “Americas Hat”, or Honeymoon at Niagara Falls, or even if you work for a living just trying to earn an honest buck and have need to cross the US Border into Canada that there is a high probability that the Canadian Border Guards will Kidnap you against your will, hold you in a maximum security Detention Facility, and treat you like the criminal that they have decided you are, without ever actually charging you with a crime. Sounds CrAzY right? Well let me tell you a story. This just happened May 27th 2014 to a very close Biker Brother and Former Club Brother of mine. He and I probated and patched together years ago in an International MC with ties to another International MC. Both of which have been deemed a “Criminal Organization” by the US Dept of Justice. That obviously begs to say that using the DOJ’s own example, that every “Law Enforcement Agency” who has ever had a criminal conviction by one or more of its “members” is also a “Criminal Organization”.. but that’s for a different article. Even though he and I are no longer members of the club mentioned, and neither of us has been ever convicted of any crime, it is still “probable” that we are criminals, or have the potential to commit crime. What a joke! Everyone has the “potential to commit crimes”! Even Lawyers, Judges, Preachers, COPS & School Teachers!! I guess I must have been out riding my motorcycle the day that common sense and good judgment were thrown out of Law Enforcement and Parliament. So my Biker Brother drives a corporation owned semi truck for a living. He had a load to deliver in Canada. His paperwork was in order, License, passport, etc. No worries right? Wrong. Our names, addresses, license plate numbers, photographs, etc are all most assuredly in this big old data base shared by this oxymoron called ‘Government Intelligence”:.. When it was his turn in line and handed over his documents, well what do you know? “Ping”, something pops up giving the Border patrol concern. After thoroughly checking logs, vehicle and content load and finding nothing out of order, there is simply one more thing to do, start accusing the driver of being a member of a criminal organization in the US and interrogate him at will! After demanding to see any and all tattoos, a few of which depict the former membership in our former club, BAM, you’re Guilty! You are Not Allowed into our county, ever! Well, of course you can talk to a magistrate if you wish to ever have access into our country. So my buddy say’s no problem, I have committed no crimes, I need to be able to deliver loads for my company up THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC
here, what’s the harm in asking? Oh, they left out the part that in order to see a judge, we’re going to impound your truck, take away all of your freedoms, and lock you in a Max Cell Prison in the same Unit with those serving time for heinous crimes, for up to 6 months to 2 years so I’ve been told. Yeah, just like that! By the time I got the call that he was locked up, it had already been about 5 days. Better memorize those landline phone number folks, because your only option is to call a landline collect, without the aid of your cell phone contact list. Of course most of the civilized world doesn’t have landlines anymore. He was discovered in prison after his employer was called to collect the truck by the authorities, and his employer notified his Father living in Florida. For the next week many calls were made to the US Embassy, a few of which were returned, with basically zero resources for help. By the way, you’re on your own up there. The US Embassy does not offer any legal aide, and there is no “Public Defender”. You know what got this ball rolling to get him help? The Biker and MC Community, that’s who. I created a quick Community page on Facebook called “Free Jake”. Within 24 hours it had over 400 members. By the end of the week when he was finally freed and permanently deported (for never having committed any actual crime) the number was well over 700 members from at least 4 or 5 countries, including Brothers from Canada, England, GB, Germany, the US, Etc , many of whom know him, but even more that didn’t. We had friends of friends offering up money, places to stay in Canada if he was released but had to stay for any hearings, a local trustworthy lawyer in Ottawa, etc. A real Community of People willing to jump right in and help a Biker Brother whom many have never even met. These are the “criminals” that the world police are so afraid of. And you know what, with good reason. Because when “we the people” finally reach the end of our tolerance for your Dictatorships, only then will you know the true power of the world’s people unified. And they know this and it scares them to death! You see they are egotistical power hungry mongrels, and what they fear most is a world unified and informed taking the power away from them. “But we’re just here to Protect you….go back to sleep good Sheeple.. All is safe while we control you”. To think that other governments and our own label me and so many thousands of other Bikers just like us a criminal threat is beyond hypocrite. These agencies can’t stop actual criminals from blowing people up in office buildings and public events, but they want to claim victory over world terror by simply persecuting easy targets that are no actual threat. Absurd! Want my advice? Pack those bags; bring those fishing poles, and head to Montana, or Florida, or anywhere but Canada! Oh don’t worry about covering up those tattoos, or leaving “the life” and trading your Harley for a Hybrid and moving down to Main Street USA, it’s too late, you’re already Branded for Life! MOTORCYCLE BILL AIMS TO BRING EQUAL TREATMENT IN SOUTH CAROLINA South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley recently signed a Motorcycle Equal Access Bill that mandates equal treatment toward motorcyclists across the state in all public areas. This legislation, sponsored by Rep. Todd Atwater (R-Lexington), amends the Code of South Carolina to keep local law enforcement agencies from denying access to motorcyclists on public highways, bridges, parking garages and essentially any publicly funded areas. A lot of local motorcycle groups supported this bill, many feeling that law enforcement has not treated them right for a long time and they say they’re ready for a change. “There’s few municipalities, in particular, that want to stop motorcycles from parking in publicly funded taxpayer areas,” said one ABATE spokesperson. “If tax payers are paying for a garage, then they should not be allowed to tell us we can’t park there.” Under the bill, cities and counties have to make reasonable accommodations for motorcycle parking in lots and garages. “All this bill is about is equal access, this is making sure that when you go to any city in this state that if you have a motorcycle you have a place to park,” said the governor who is also an ABATE member, adding; “As long as I have been in office, ABATE has been my friends, and that’s because they fight for all the right things; they’ve always fought for safety, they’ve always fought for individual rights, they’ve always fought to make sure that people have the liberties they should have.” MISSOURI LIFTS BAN ON SUNDAY CYCLE SALES Due to so-called “Blue Laws” influenced by early religious edicts, vehicle sales are prohibited on the Sabbath in several states, but Missouri recently joined a growing list of states that are repealing these outdated bans. Governor Jay Nixon signed HB1735 on Monday, June 23rd that will lift a ban on Sundaysales of motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, personal watercraft and other items typically sold by power-sports dealers. The legislation was championed by motorcycle riders and at least one Harley-Davidson dealer from the Kansas City area, who told lawmakers that he was losing Sundaybusiness to a competitor in Kansas. When the measure takes effect August 28, Missouri will join Indiana, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Maryland in removing their Sunday sales bans over the past few years. Other states that currently prohibit the Sunday sales of motorcycles and automobiles are Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Oklahoma, North Dakota and Wisconsin. The Missouri legislation does not repeal the state’s ban on Sunday sales of cars and trucks. 44
UTAH LAWMAKERS URGED TO “GET AHEAD” OF OUTLAW BIKERS A perceived proliferation of outlaw motorcycle “gangs” in Utah has led a veteran police officer to warn lawmakers that they need to get ahead of the curve. “There’s been a 300 percent increase in the members of outlaw motorcycle gangs in Utah, compared to what we experienced five years ago,” Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Lane Critser told members of the Legislature’s Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Interim Committee on Wednesday, July 16. Critser, who has worked in gang enforcement since 2008, said the proliferation of gangs and gang members could be attributed to multiple factors. Utah is an “untouched” state, meaning no gang has claimed territory as its own. Also, law enforcement in Utah is unaccustomed to dealing with outlaw motorcycle gangs on a regular basis, he said. “It’s like a gold rush. Everybody is trying to get here and establish dominance in the state so they can run a variety of their criminal activities and make their money in the state,” Critser testified to the committee. The state also is becoming increasingly attractive to members of outlaw motorcycle clubs because Utah is largely rural, said Rep. Paul Ray (R-Clearfield), pointing out that a number of clubs have hosted runs in Utah, including one where several members racked up citations for multiple violations in numerous counties en route to Weber County, and “By the time they got there, they just turned around and went home. They didn’t want to deal with it any more,” Ray said. “Really, you’ve got to make it expensive and uncomfortable for these guys and they won’t want to stick around.” While he offered no details, Ray said he intends to introduce a gang initiative during the 2015 legislative session. BERLIN BANS HELLS ANGELS LOGO Outlawing the motorcycle club’s symbols represents the latest weapon in a fight to stop Germany’s ‘rocker wars.’ In the latest salvo of a battle to rein in outlaw motorcycle clubs, authorities in Berlin are hitting the global Hells Angels brand where it hurts most: the logo. Last month, the signature winged death’s head and “Hells Angels” label featured on the motorcycle club’s “cut,” or leather vest, were banned in the capital as the symbols of a criminal organization. According to GlobalPost, a Hamburg judge outlawed Germany’s first Hells Angels charter in the city in 1983, but the Hells Angels as an organization have never before been banned across Germany. Now the prohibition of the iconic logo has come about through an ironic twist. When a former member of the banned Hamburg charter appealed to the court in April to be allowed to wear the club’s “colors,” the judge interpreted the original ruling to mean that the Hells Angels logo is illegal not only in Hamburg, but throughout the country.

NEWS BYTES “Now, all the other regions in Germany are thinking about that judgment,” said detective superintendent Matthias Frohn, deputy head of the Berlin police division responsible for curtailing the city’s motorcycle gangs. Frohn says it remains to be seen whether the broader ban on the club’s logo will be enough to finally scatter the gang. MONGOLS REFUSED INCORPORATION The Mongols Motorcycle Club has been formally refused permission to become a registered incorporated body in South Australia. Despite claims by the club that it hosts recreational and charity events and that it was only formed because of its members’ interests in American motorcycles, Acting Liquor Licensing Commissioner Dini Soulio has refused their application. Senior legal sources told the Herald-Sun newspaper that they believe the Mongols’ move was largely tactical and aimed at thwarting the provisions of the Serious and Organized Crime (Control) Act should police obtain association or control orders against any members in the future. SA Attorney-General John Rau has endorsed the decision, made on public safety grounds, to reject the Mongols’ incorporation application. A Mongols source said the club was considering a legal challenge to the ruling “in the same successful way as two previous legal challenges” involving anti-bikie legislation. SAVE THE PATCH (Excerpted), by Spike The familiar rumble and roar of a pack of bikes, which is music to our ears, may be a faintly distant tune in the future. The loudest noise on the streets right now is the buzz and the buzz on the streets is “SAVE THE PATCH”. ‘SAVE THE PATCH’ is the culmination of many factors including decades of ever increasing discrimination and persecution to Bikers, their organizations and their lifestyle in general. We as bikers have widely been subjected to unwarranted highway stops, refused admittance into establishments and misrepresentation by law enforcement and the media. The U.S. Department of Justice last year filed a lawsuit seeking to seize control of the trademarked logo of the Mongol Nation Motorcycle Club LLC, THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MD-DE-DC
arguing that the Mongols are a criminal organization and that the mark is used for intimidation; but the Mongols and their attorneys argue that the government is overstepping its bounds with the lawsuit, which they said would infringe on the rights of club members. “They’re trying to destroy the right of men to associate and indicate their association,” said Joe Yanny, an attorney representing the Mongols. “It’s absolutely ridiculous. In addition to being a violation of club members’ free-speech rights, more importantly, it’s a due-process issue.” The lawsuit breaks new ground in terms of trademark law, the attorney said, adding that it may end up at the Supreme Court. Unlike a business trademark controlled by a single entity, the Mongols’ logo is a “collective membership mark,” and “It’s legally owned by one entity, but held in trust for the members. It’s the votes of club members that ultimately determined who is allowed to wear the club’s patch.” Bikers throughout the state and nationwide identify with the message being sent out and the ramifications, if the patch is lost, it will affect us all. In southern California, widely respected members of all major clubs have met to discuss ways to save the patch. A Facebook page “SAVE the PATCH” has been set up since October and it states: “It has become time to further protect and defend our rights to ride, associate, and enjoy our lifestyle for all motorcycle riders and enthusiasts. To wear our respective clubs membership insignia, which have been trademarked, copyrighted, and incorporated by these organized entities. Representatives from a few of these clubs in Southern California have come together to make the initial steps in presenting and organizing the support of all motorcycle clubs and riders to stand up and work to prevent the freedoms we all value and enjoy from being eroded further, by an ever more intrusive government apparently bent on tyrannical control, we all need to become involved and work to defend that which we all enjoy about our lifestyle, be it as a club member or independent riders.” The good news is, the passion to ride, the passion for freedom and the passion to preserve the life style is more than enough to unite the Biker world in whatever stance it takes to SAVE THE PATCH. ur son, Cameron Dowell, is an experienced and motivated motocross racer from Calvert County, MD. working diligently towards becoming a professional motocross racer. He started racing motocross at Budd’s Creek Maryland at 6 years old. In these ten years of racing, he has traveled to NY, NJ, DE, PA, OH, WV, VA, NC, SC, GA, TN, FL, MO, NV, and holds 28 championships. Currently he is training with Ryan Hughes in a training program at Ryno Institute in Temecula California. Ryan has over 28 years of professional motorcycle racing and teaches athletes how to fine tune their training program to get optimize results. Cameron stays intensely busy traveling to out of state races plus he attends regular training classes. In his dedication to his future racing career to achieve greater scheduling latitude, he is enrolled in an “at home” high school where he maintains honor roll status. He is a very respectable, respectful, and respected teenager with admirable sportsmanship. He makes a special point to meet with all of the professional racers at any event to gain any of their advice and wisdom.
confident that he has what it takes to become a professional. We travel almost every weekend to races and have provided a camper to travel in, racing equipment, training classes from professional racers, and especially guided him to be a humble racer with noble and mature sportsmanship. Our goal is to promote him in as many ways as possible. Can you please help make Cameron the 1st pro Motocross racer in our tri-county area? Any help you can provide to reach our goal of 1000 tickets sold would be extremely appreciated. We gratefully and publicly honor and acknowledge any and all support we receive. Information on ticket sales is on our flyer: Brad Dowell: 301-672-0569 PayPal Account: braddowell@comcast.net Thank you very much for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Brad & Jennifer Dowell
Cameron was invited to travel to New Zealand to compete in the Taupo Extravaganza October 2526, 2014. With the help of Chesapeake Power and Motorsports in Annapolis MD, we are raffling off a new Sand Reeper to raise money towards his trip. Only 1000 tickets are being sold at $30 per ticket. The proceeds will cover the payment for the Sand Reeper, airfare, rental car, hotel, entry fees, etc. We have been productively selling tickets at each race track we visit, but sales are now slowly dwindling, and our prospects for attending this international race are at risk. Cameron’s attendance at this racing event is critical since as he wins more races, and sponsors see and appreciate his talents, they further support him financially, and his equipment, reputation, and greater prospects improve. This NZ race is an amazing opportunity for Cameron. It is crucial towards the advancement of his career, it is a distinctive honor to be invited to compete, and there will be sponsors looking for semi-professionals to promote. As parents of a semi-professional racer, we have dedicated ourselves to his career and are completely 50
