Letter From The Publishers Hello everyone and Happy Fathers Day to all you dad’s out there! Our magazine is your guide to the riding community in Louisiana. We cover recommended events and ride stops all across the state. We try to cover some “tech tips” to help you folks when you are out on the road and to maintain your steel steeds. We also make it a point to share new opportunities for you to get out and discover new aspects of your love of riding. It’s all here and just for you throughout Thunder Roads all over the country! We would like to encourage you to make the most out of this year’s summer vacation. Get out and join us at a rally you’ve never been to before or check out one of our new Thunder Run Stops. Our own personal goals with the staff and owners are to tour the state and meet all of our brothers and sisters in the wind, with more visits than the last month… Summer is the best season and we want to see you all out there on the roads and coming home safe and sound. We cannot obviously put everyone in the magazine that we meet, but we will do our best to tell your stories, so please send them in with your photos of where you are visiting, along with your events, and rest assure we will not EVER resort to the mudslinging that goes on within the state from other magazines. After all when you are number 1 and have a 20 year proven track record, other “wannabes” will try to put you down… We are here for you and will continue to represent the biker community with respect, loyalty, and honor and will never publish a single story or photo without your approval or permission.. Until next time… Where there are bikes… there is going to be thunder..

Drawing Out The Graphics

Airstrike Airbrushing By: Donald Bourg As most artist growing up in the eighties I was initially inspired by fantasy artist Boris Vallejo, Frank Frazetta, Soroyama and H.R. Giger to name just a few. I was introduced into airbrushing in the early 90’s and took it up as hobby painting shirts and took several apprentice ships with tee shirt shops to learn the craft. During this time i developed the appreciation for patience as it would truly set the groundwork for later projects. After a few years I made the jump to painting on vehicles and took a job as a painter at an automotive dealership to learn the techniques and materials of proper body work and automotive paints ad continued to airbrush as a hobby and began experimenting with murals on steel. I then began riding motorcycles and shortly after that began tearing them apart making modifications and experimenting with paint schemes under the mindset of I wonder how that would look? These experiments with paint continued for me as a hobby as I took on the role as a deputy sheriff in early 2003. During this time I began doing small repairs to my friend’s motorcycles and airbrushing murals on them. That also included painting several of the department’s motorcycles along with a truck and van for the D.A.R.E. programs where those vehicles began drawing the attention of larger jobs. In 2009 I was shot three times in the line of duty while investigating a complaint. I spent the next year in physical therapy from those injuries that left me partially paralyzed. It was during this time that I began to really take on more demanding airbrush projects as a way to cope with the injuries as they healed. A family friend had a corvette that he went to car shows with and asked me to airbrush a few pieces for him as a favor. After a few car shows I began getting phone calls from other car and bike owners wanting to get some work done. The projects gave me an opportunity to stretch out into different genres of painting and add other elements into the airbrush work such as gold and silver leafing along with basic pin stripping. I also include Hydrographics or “dipping” and Cerekote upon request. Also during this time I began doing some airbrush work for Dennis at Hot wheels as well as other collaborations with other painters in the Houma area. Currently I am still airbrushing and painting from home and taking on projects. I enjoy sitting with the client and listening to what their ideas are and translating those ideas into a physical drawings or paintings that they can see. Its an awesome feeling to see them light up with excitement over that project, as they begin to see their project come to life. Completed

TECH TIP: THE SPEED OF GRAVITY Making the Change to Lithium Ion Batteries in Your Scooter

By : Nathan Templeton Exclusively for Thunder Roads Magazine My ‘79ish FXE started out as something listed as “road ready”, but ended up being just as far from that as possible when I shelled out the cash for it on a negative 14 degree Fahrenheit night in mid-Michigan. At that point, it would have been hard pressed to roll down the road…if pushed…downhill. So there was that. A bunch of days, months, and hours went by that where a fair amount of blood sweat and tears were spilled. My wife would add that a lot of this ended up tracked through the house. Assorted cans of worms were opened one after another until that “road ready” scooter had been completely rebuilt from the ground up and was now hypothetically “road ready”. When I finally got her on the road, I knew I had been bitten by that speed bug. It was great, but wasn’t enough. It didn’t really make sense to me to dump more cash into fresh rebuilt motor, so I had to shave weight. I was looking at the bike differently now. Every bit and piece looked like a brick to me and I wanted as much as possible gone. Could the bike and or I survive without it? Everything that didn’t make her go, turn, or stop had to go. I finally got her into the mid five-hundredpound range and there just wasn’t much more to cut off. There had to be more though. I realized I may have needed counseling. Then my battery died. When I was looking into replacing my dinosaur of a lead acid battery, I came upon the Antigravity Batteries company out of Gardena, California. The name alone got my attention enough to head over to their website, www.antigravitybatteries.com to check it out. Let me just say that what I found there did not disappoint. My OEM style lead acid boat anchor weighed in at whopping 15lbs using my handy dandy bathroom scale. Antigravity Batteries ranged from 1 to 5lbs depending on what features I wanted. On a bike that was already approaching the five-hundred-pound mark, that was huge weight savings! The only other way I could think of to make that happen would be to give up boudin and jambalaya. That wasn’t happening. Besides, I needed a battery. I called the number on the site an almost immediately got a very knowledgeable human who spoke English. We’ll call him Dave for this article. I just gave him all the detail of my build that was a fountain of knowledge. Antigravity has OEM drop

in models for just about any bike that are at that five-pound mark that range from $120 to $429 with almost twice the cold cranking amps of the equivalent lead-acid battery. They’re completely water tight, can’t be damaged by vibration and heat (Attention Milwaukee paint shaker owners!) and absolutely maintenance free. Aside from parasitic drains or shorts, they claim shelf life is five years. There were only a couple of drawbacks. First I would need to make sure my charging system was spot on so it didn’t kill the new battery. Second, if I wanted to run a tender or charger, I’d need to use one specific to their battery or risk damaging it. They have a pretty cool package charger/tender on the website for about $50. All said and done, the price was a bit steep, but I needed a battery anyway and if their other claims were true, this sounded like a pretty good deal. I took the plunge. During the course of our discussion, Dave turned me onto their 4-cell battery in the small case series. This was the 16oz. (1lb) one that kicked out 120cca and could fit in the back pocket of my dungarees. It got to my house within a week and I was stoked just feeling how light the package was. It came with enough adhesive backed pieces of foam padding to tuck it into my OEM battery tray. I am a machinist though and that wasn’t going to cut it. So, with a little figuring, CAD drawing, and some aluminum chips, I had a great looking custom bracket that I would be hiding with the OEM cover. I should mention here that for about $100 you can buy one on the Antigravity site. Now, onto the fun stuff. My shovel has always been a reliable kick only. I’ve spent a ton of time tuning it and had only ever gotten to about a four kick mark (not counting prime kicks). Without changing anything else, the bike instantly became a one to two-kicker. According to Dave, because the lithium ion battery has far less fall off in voltage during the ignition pulse. This lets it “push” a hotter spark which makes things a lot easier on the leg. Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Right. The stars all aligned that fateful night and it never happened again.” Well, I’m here to tell you that bike continues to be a one to two kicker (not counting primers) almost two years later. That battery has not missed a beat and I have never had to use the charger. On top of that, the 14-pound weight savings actually made a huge difference in how nimble the bike felt. Before then, I would have never thought a battery could stretch my grin that much further. -Shovel on!

Seats & SADDLES

Pastor’s Corner In The Wind Ministries

It all started on a Sunday morning at a local church where I was serving as Pastor. We were having a “Biker Sunday”, and as I looked out from my office window I could see that motorcycles had filled our parking lot. When it came time for me to go on the stage and start the service, I asked one of the men serving as an usher, what it was like inside the church. He quick replied “it filled with bikers and you can feel the electricity” meaning excitement was in the air. As I walked on the stage and started the first song, everyone in the building jumped to their feet and stated singing and clapping. It was like a concert and I was the opening band. I remember thinking to myself, “wow this is awesome!” At that moment I could feel in my heart the Lord saying “this is how it should be”. Once I finished the first song and started the second fast song, everyone was still standing and singing, with big smiles and every face was expressing great joy. As we were singing, all of a sudden a lady in the back of the church stepped out into the aisle and started heading to the front of the church with tears flowing down her cheeks. She was quickly followed by several others and before the song was over many had come to the altar, each praying and seeking God for a need in their life. It was at that moment, I felt the the Lord speaking again to my heart, “this is how it’s gonna be”! And I knew that God was calling me into the motorcycle Ministry Two weeks later I finished my last sermon as their pastor. I stepped off that same stage, walked to the front of the church, opened the door to my office which had a sign that read “Pastor Terry Lobell”. I took off my suit and tie, put on blue jeans, leather vest and chains, walked out the door and threw my leg across my Harley Davidson Ultra Glide and became “Pastor T, the blaster for the Master”. I knew in my heart of hearts, that I had been called to reach the motorcycle community with the Good News of God’s great love for the Biker. I remember asking God, “What will I say to them? What will I tell them”? Knowing that many of those I would meet have been rejected by some churches. Knowing that many had lost their faith and were sick of religion. I knew the last thing they wanted to hear was some “preacher” telling them how they should live. Over the next few months I believe God worked on changing me, re-creating me, while molding me into the vessel He could use. It wasn’t long after getting started that I went into my workshop and made a simple cross out of some scrap wood I had. After I finished making the shape of the cross, I prayed “Father what would You have me do with this wooden cross?” So I drilled a hole in the top, took a piece of leather from my vest and put a black, red, white, and blue bead on the leather lace and wooden cross. Then I put that cross on my bike as a reminder to me to pray for the biker community every day while letting it serve as a reminder to me that God was with me. Since that time we have given out over thirty thousand of these wooden crosses as we bless motorcycles and riders. The meanings of the bead are very simple, but very powerful. The “wooden cross” represents God’s great love for every man, woman and child. The “black bean” represents that no matter who we are we have done wrong (sinned). The “red bead represents that Jesus shed His blood on the cross so that our sins could be forgiven. The “white” bead represents the forgiveness (cleansing) that we can have through what Jesus did on the cross for us. The “blue” bead represents the promise that “God so loved the world, that He gave his only Son, that whosoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life” and that God is with us and for us. After riding many thousands of miles on my Harley, and blessing motorcycles and riders, I felt a strong compelling to allow others who felt the same calling, with a desire to be there for others in their times of spiritual need to ride with me. From this In The Wind Ministries was founded. ITWM is not a club, not even an organization but a group of men and women from many different backgrounds who have dedicated their life to sharing God’s love for the BIKER. After several years, I started doing a church service at rally’s and places where those who ride could come in worship God before or during their ride. Those who attended named it Church In The Wind. In the beginning we only had a few ride in for a service. But once the word got out to the motorcycle community that there was a church service that you ride your scooter too, and use your bike as your pew, that set up in parking lots with music and short message of hope attendance began to grow. Today Church In The Wind follows the same format. You ride your scooter to the service; you use your bike as your pew. Every service is officially started with a countdown and then the motorcycles crank up and rev up the engines as to say “we have come to worship You Lord!”

Services are held on the first Sunday of each month at Harley Davidson of Hammond. Then, on the third Sunday of each month at The Green Barn on the Livingston Fair Ground in Livingston Louisiana. Services start at 9:30 am. Attendance can ranged from 50 to 700 depending on the weather conditions. Even in the pouring down rain, freezing cold or 100 plus degree heat, the motorcycle community shows up to worship at Church In The Wind. While CITW mostly consist of those who ride motorcycles, everyone is always welcomed. We have just about every age group and occupation in attendance of our services. It is awesome to hear those motorcycles crank up to start the service, and looking across the sea of bikes and rides and seeing their smiles as they sing songs of worship together. But getting to pray with them, and be there with them in good times and bad, and seeing their faith and relationship with God restored is the most amazing thing. CITW / ITWM is always looking for the opportunity to better serve our brothers and friends in the motorcycle community. As I end this article, I am reminded of what I felt in my heart that day years ago. “This is how it should be! This how it’s gonna be” and it is. Hope to see you soon. Blessings… Pastor T. Drifters Heart By:Pamela Alwell I want to start with I am not a writer so what I am writing here is coming from my heart. Approximately a year ago I read a few articles that Drifter had on facebook. He was so sincere in what he was writing and posting that I had to send him a request and become his friend. I followed his articles for all that time and then just by the luck of the draw, My husband and I were at an A.B.A.T.E. meeting. We met and spoke with Drifter, and that is when we offered our help to him and his organization. Shortly after that meeting I purchased my first bike. I thought “Oh wow I was great with a dirt Bike so this should be a breeze” Oh how wrong I was. To make a long story short I rode till I got 136 miles on the bike, and laid it down with almost $6000 damage to the bike and 4 days in the hospital for me. That is when I decided that I needed to go to a motorcycle safety course because what I knew, and what I needed to know were two different things. I took my course in January and did pretty good. I got my M endorsement but still had many fears about riding that bike again. My husband did his best to get me rolling again and I just couldn’t get myself, or my head straight. Again, an A.B.A.T.E meeting rolls around and there is my buddy Drifter. I explained to him what was going wrong with me and my fears, and what did he do? He offered to help…We set a date and he explained how he wanted to conduct this ride we were going to take together. He was in front, I was in the middle and the husband was the anchor. That day we rode over 100 miles and I just mirrored what he did and had the safety of my husband behind me. Without Drifters knowledge of how to calm people down and show them the right and wrong of riding, I wouldn’t be riding my bike right now. In short, if Drifter says he is going to do it, consider it done. If the children of St. Jude’s Or Houston’s children’s Hospital need him he is there. If one of the VA Hospitals need him there count him in. If a first-responder, Police, firefighter, or Vet suffering from PTSD or any related issue needs him he is there. You will never find anyone more committed to his cause than him. He truly has a heart of gold and the will to get the job done. Drifter is a one of a kind man and it has been both my honor and a pleasure to know him and we (my husband and I) will do whatever we can to help to keep Drifter’s Heat and the Wind Therapy program to keep fulfilling its purpose. His heart is honest and true and he is truly one of kind. I wish everyone had a “Drifter” within their charitable causes and programs, and just to be your friend.

SB 171 THE ALL ROAD USERS ACT PASSES THE SENATE AND HOUSE COMMITTEE

By Glenn C. McGovern, Attorney and MSF Instructor, V.P. G.N.O. A.B.A.T.E Email gcmcg@mac.com www.glennmcgovern.com

Eight other states have adopted the Model Vulnerable Road Users Act. Seventeen states have enacted stiffer penalties as a deterrent to careless motorists who seriously injure and kill motorcyclists, bicyclists, children, handicapped on mobility scooters, scooter riders, farmers and pedestrians. Louisiana looks like it is on its way to also adopt the Model Vulnerable Road Users Act in a bill sponsored by Senator Gary Smith of St. Rose and Representative Stephanie Hilferty of Metairie, SB 171. The bill passed the Senate Judiciary Committee C after the committee heard from Linda Stewart, a polio victim hit crossing a street in a marked crossing by a truck. The truck driver got a $100 ticket. Then Denean LeBouef Fortier, widow of Edwin Rooster Fortier III, told of her husband being killed on his motorcycle by a drug impaired driver who left the scene, returned to the scene and then got a $100 ticket for failure to yield. Denean LeBouef Fortier and her fellow A.B.A.T.E. members (all over 60 years old on Harley Trikes) were not allowed to see the careless driver plead guilty as they were removed from the 1st Parish Court in Jefferson by 6 J.P.S.O. Officers. They were removed before the court hearing for no reason other than they had A.B.A.T.E. patches on their vests. Then 3 bicyclists from L.S.U. told of their being seriously injured by careless motorists with friends and a faculty member killed before their eyes. The careless driver received a misdemeanor traffic citation and was fined $100 plus court costs. Several members of the committee were visibly moved and thanked the A.B.A.T.E. members John Bering and Glenn McGovern for testifying. Senator Gary Smith did an excellent presentation. The bill has been opposed by the Louisiana District Attorney’s Association that opposed the bill. After hearing the emotional testimony though, they backed down on their opposition and 4 speakers left the committee hearing. Glenn C. McGovern, a MSF motorcycle instructor and motorcycle trial attorney testified that in the last 5 years according to L.S.U. crash statistics, bicycle deaths are up 112.5%, pedestrian deaths are up 17.9% and motorcycle accidents are up 17.9%. The careless drivers are usually only fined for a misdemeanor traffic citation even after killing a non-caged road user. The Senate Committee unanimously passed SB 171 out of the Senate

Committee and picked up 3 more sponsors. The Senate passed SB 171 by a vote of 33 yeas and 1 nay (Sen. Peacock). Then the bill went to the House Administration of Criminal Justice Committee where the La. District Attorneys again tried to water down the bill to require reckless conduct instead of careless conduct. A full house of A.B.A.T.E. and La Bicyclist Coalition members in attendance responded with a loud uniform, ‘NO!” and shook their heads in unison. The committee head then rescinded the motion and the bill passed the House Committee unanimously. The bill comes before the House of Representatives on May 24, 2016 at 2 p.m. Hopefully it will pass. Hopefully the work for over 4 years of Glenn McGovern, G.N.O. A.B.A.T.E., A.B.A.T.E. of Louisiana, the bicyclists groups in N.O. and Baton Rouge, Linda Stewart, handicapped advocate, Charlie Thomas, bicycle advocate and attorney, Denean LeBouef Fortier and all the A.B.A.T.E. members who showed up and sent hundreds of emails to legislators will make the community safer for all non-caged road users. News Bytes NCOM CONVENTION ROLLS INTO ATLANTIC CITY Odds are, it may not have been the largest Convention ever, but you can bet it was the largest venue, as nearly a thousand biker rights activists from across the U.S. converged at the sprawling Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey for the 31st Annual NCOM Convention, May 5-8, 2016. For more than three decades over Mother’s Day weekend, the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM) has provided a platform for diverse factions of the motorcycle community to come together in the spirit of unity and teamwork to address issues of mutual concern, such as pursuing Biker Anti-Profiling legislation; supporting Save the Patch litigation; and reviewing Freedom of the Road victories & defeats; as well as attending seminars on Holding Effective Fund Raisers, Organizational Effectiveness, and Law Enforcement Interaction.A Safety & First Aid seminar was hosted by Master Motorcycle Trainer Christine Firehock of the Kickstart Motorcycle Training Series, followed by Sr. EMT Instructor Dick “Slider” Gilmore’s popular life-saving presentation “The Golden Hour – How to Save a Biker’s Life”. Special Meetings were on the weekend’s agenda in support of NCOM’s many outreach programs for Women In Motorcycling; Clean and Sober Roundtable; National Sport Bike Association (NSBA); and Christian Unity Conference, in addition to the Confederation of Clubs General Patch Holders Meeting, U.S. Defenders Program, NCOM-Legislative Task Force Meeting, and A.I.M. Attorneys Conference.During the Silver Spoke Awards Banquet on Saturday evening, several honorees were recognized for their contributions to “Improving The Image of Motorcycling”, including; MEDIA: Jimmy & Pat Kay of Two Wheel Thunder TV; LEGAL: William Swatek, AIM Attorney for Alabama; ENTERTAINMENT: Singer/Songwriter Arlo Guthrie; SPECIAL RECOGNITION: NCOM Christian Unity, and Bill Foley, former NCOM Board Member from ABATE of Pennsylvania. NCOM’s highest honor, the Ron Roloff Lifetime Achievement Award, was presented to Louie Nobs, Liaison for NCOM Christian Unity.Next year’s 32nd Annual NCOM Convention will be held May 11-14, 2017 at the Silver Legacy Resort & Casino, 407 N. Agency backing off this issue at this time, Congress is considering bipartisan legislation in both the House and Senate to guarantee that vehicles can continue to be modified for competition on the track.HR 4715 & S 2659, the RPM Act (Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act of 2016), would ensure that the American tradition of modifying vehicles into dedicated racetrack competitors is not only continued for today, but will be protected for future generations of race fans as well. CONGRESS ACTS TO CURB HIGHER ETHANOL BLENDED FUEL In response to recent Congressional legislation promoting the use of E15 gasoline (HR 4673 REFUEL Act), members of the U.S. House of Representatives have co-sponsored a measure to prevent the EPA from further forcing the controversial fuel onto the U.S. marketplace. E15 contains 50% more ethanol than previously-approved E10 gas, and has not been approved for use in motorcycles, ATVs and other small engine applications. In fact, even its inadvertent use can invalidate manufacturer warranties and cause damage.HR 5108 (the “Food and Fuel Consumer Protection Act of 2016) was introduced May 10, 2016 by U.S. Rep. Bill Flores (R-TX) “to alleviate the ethanol blend wall under the renewable fuel program.” Specifically, the bipartisan bill would cap the ethanol content of fuel at 9.7%, and would also effect the EPA’s Renewable Volume Obligations under the Renewable Fuel Standard.Under proposed RFS volume requirements for 2017, the EPA calls for 18.8 billion gallons of biofuel next year, representing a nearly 4% increase despite lower demand for higher ethanol blends. HR 5108 would also ensure continued availability of ethanol-free gasoline for older motorcycles.

EUROPE’S CHANGING EMISSIONS LAWS WILL CHANGE MOTORCYCLES Your favorite bike may be influenced from afar. “This year promises to bring a record crop of new and updated models from virtually every manufacturer thanks to wide-ranging law changes coming into force thousands of miles away in Europe,” according to Motorcyclist Magazine. “Those changes might not directly affect us, but given the way bikes are developed with global sales in mind many of the new models being developed to meet the latest European regulations are sure to MARYLAND GOVERNOR SIGNING ANTI-PROFILING BILL INTO LAW be coming here too.”On January 1, 2016, a whole new set of rules was Hundreds of bikers descended on the State House in Annapolis on adopted across Europe. “Regulation (EU) No 168/2013” makes significant Thursday, May 19, for a historic bill signing ceremony with Governor changes -- in particular to exhaust emissions limits but also to things like Larry Hogan signing only the second Motorcycle Profiling measure in braking systems and electronics. Tests for noise levels have also been the country into law in Maryland. The motorcycle anti-profiling legislation passed unanimously through both chambers of the legislature, and without changed. The emissions limits are of course much tighter; called “Euro 4,” the new limits reduce the permissible levels of carbon monoxide, unburned opposition from law enforcement, and emulates anti-profiling legislation hydrocarbons, and oxides of nitrogen in exhausts. Previously America’s passed in the state of Washington in 2011.HB785/SB233, passed 47-0 rules on emissions were tougher than Europe’s, but now in order to pass the in the Senate on 4/4 and 137-0 in the House on 4/7, requires a specified Euro 4 tests new bikes are being fitted with much larger exhausts and kits statement condemning motorcycle profiling to be included in police that include charcoal canisters to reduce evaporative emissions.“Next year policies and require training of officers on “motorcycle profiling,” defined we’ll be seeing a lot more things like that,” predicts Motorcyclist author Ben in the legislation as “The arbitrary use of the fact that an individual rides a motorcycle or wears motorcycle-related clothing or paraphernalia as a factor Purvis, explaining that “While the rules were passed into law back in 2013 in deciding to stop, question, take enforcement action, arrest, or search the and came into force at the start of 2016, their implementation is staggered to give manufacturers a chance to adapt.”Since January 1st, all newly individual.” launched models have needed to comply to be legally sold in the EU. But the more important date is January 1, 2017, because that’s the deadline HIGH PERFORMANCE RACING MODIFICATIONS NEED PROTECTED Bowing to political pressures and public outcry, the federal EPA announced when existing models must also come into line, though manufacturers can on April 15, 2016 that it would remove provisions from proposed regulations apply for a two-year extension. What else is changing? Emissions aside, that would have prohibited street-legal vehicles, including motorcycles, from the big change is that in Europe all bikes over 125cc will have to be fitted with ABS while smaller bikes will need to have either ABS or a combined being modified for racing. But regardless of the Environmental Protection 16 THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE LOUISIANA

braking system. There are also changes to the lighting rules, with daytime running lights becoming mandatory as well as US-style side reflectors. Europe is the closest to America in terms of the types of bike that are popular, but while Americans consume less than a half million motorcycles a year, riders in the EU purchase well over a million.Like lower emissions exhaust systems, economies of scale will likely dictate that even what’s not legally required in the states -- like ABS -- will become standard equipment on increasing numbers of our U.S.-imported bikes, as it won’t make sense for manufacturers to build different versions just to suit a relatively small number of American customers.Unfortunately, Regulation (EU) No. 168/2013 also provides for the next-generation “Euro 5” emissions tests, tougher still, and the deadline for their implementation is less than five years away, beginning with 2020 new models. BMW TO INSTALL “SOS” BUTTON FOR EMERGENCIES BMW Motorrad has announced plans to offer a safety option on its bikes that would automatically contact emergency services in the case of an accident or emergency situation. The “Intelligent Emergency Call” system features a vehicle-integrated eCall system that’s been available in BMW’s cars in Europe since 1999. The system will be extended to BMW motorcycles starting next year.According to BMW, in the case of an emergency or an accident, the bike’s emergency system sends out the position data to a BMW Call Center to initiate the rescue chain. The system can either be triggered automatically by the bike, or manually by the rider.

VESPA SCOOTERS BANNED IN GENOA The mayor of Genoa, Italy, birthplace of Vespa inventor Enrico Piaggio, has decreed that Vespa motor scooters built before 1999 will be banned from the city’s streets for 12 hours each weekday to reduce air pollution. DELAWARE INCLUDES MOTORCYCLES IN LEMON LAW Although Delaware’s “Lemon Law” previously excluded motorcycles and motor homes, SB 173 by Sen. Gary Simpson (R-Dover) now brings new motorcycles within the scope of the automobile Lemon Law.Socalled “Lemon Laws” are consumer protections that provide a remedy for purchasers of new (and sometimes used) motor vehicles in order to compensate for products that repeatedly fail to meet codified standards of quality and performance. Every state has lemon laws on the books, but some specifically exclude motorcycles, though federal lemon law protections also apply. With bi-partisan support, Senate Bill 173 passed both chambers unanimously, 21-0 in the Senate on January 26, and 38-0 in the House on April 12, 2016, and was signed into law by Governor Jack Markell (D) on April 20th.

The biker NO HELMET = NO GAS suffered permanent damage to his leg and foot. Oregon A.I.M. The case resolved in a mediation session for $1,125,000.00.Sam penalties. LOUISIANA THUNDER RUN RIDE N’ WIN CONTEST ********** MARCH-AUGUST 2016

The Parlor Tattoo Studio Many of you may remember back in our March issue we ran a contest in Thunder Roads Louisiana on our face book page for best Tattoo artist. Other Thunder Roads publishers were asked to cast a random vote for their favorite tattoos submitted from various artists around the state, excluding the artist name. Although there are many talented artists in Louisiana that did not submit any tattoo’s for voting, over 120 did, and out of all of them it was narrowed down to the top 6, and then out of the finalists, the winner by only one vote was Scott Love of the Parlor Tattoo studio in Alexandria. Scott and his wife Sarah started the studio just over a year ago after completing a time consuming apprenticeship. Scott is not only a great tattoo artist, but he is

also an awesome free hand gothic artist, experimenting with not only oil and acrylics, but with items such as hot wax and broken glass...Each piece is made to order customizing to the customer’s specific desires. Be warned though that when you make an appointment with Scott or any of his other artists that you do not go into the shop “high” or “drunk”, as you will be asked to come back another day when your head is screwed on straight. ( we tell models the same thing :P) We admire his tenacity and sticking to impeccable honor and craftsmanship. So there you have a little bit of The Parlor Tattoo studio, and Scott Love’s story. Just give them a call or stop in and get you some fire ass ink. You can just “walk in”, but the staff would like to encourage you to call Amanda and make an appointment with Scott, Sammy, Terry, Nick, or Justin, and don’t forget about my favorite shop character “THE PEIRCER” Aaron!

Happy Father’s Day! Father’s day is about showing love to the male figure/ role model in your life. It’s about cherishing the present joy of today. Father’s day growing up was great and unbelievably rewarding; to watch the one that supports you every day, enjoy a movie and a nice dinner with his daughter. My dad recently passed away about 6 months ago. Father’s day was always that special day, that day where the glory’s all to him and what he does 364 days of the year. Father’s day is coming soon and I honestly don’t know what to do. Although I know

every day I spent with Julius Guillory was precious, nothing can replace it. I miss you dearly. I miss our Sushi dates, crawfish obsession, and our motorcycle trips. Motorcycles were a big part of our lives, still is to this day. We had some of our best memories on the Baby Blue, which I also said good-bye to recently. I’ll look back at our father-daughter moments and smile because you were my hero. While everyday is unknown so will my father’s day be.“HAPPY father’s Day to all the dad’s out there” Samantha Myers

“Rhino” woke up to go to the toilet in the middle of the night and noticed a confirmed sexual predator living in the neighborhood sneaking through his next door neighbor’s garden. Suddenly his neighbor came out from nowhere and smacked him over the head with a shovel, killing him instantly. He then began to dig a grave with the shovel. He went back to bed contemplating what he was going to do about this. His wife said, “honey you’re shaking, what’s wrong?” Totally astonished Rhino said ‘You’ll never believe what I’ve just seen’ that bastard next door doing…..he still has my f***ing shovel”! Dezi was outside pulling weeds on a hot summer day when her husband; Lanny, walked up and asked her what they were having for supper. Irritated by the thought of him sitting in the air-conditioned house while she labored away on the weeds, Dezi answered, “I can’t believe you’re asking me about supper right now! Pretend I’m out of town, go inside and make supper yourself!” So Lanny went back in the house and fixed himself a big steak, potatoes, garlic bread, and a tall beer. Dezi walked in just about the time he was finishing up and asked, “Where’s my dinner?” “Wth? I thought you were out of town.” A father told his 3 sons when he sent them to the university. “I feel it’s my duty to provide you with the best possible education. You do not owe me anything for that. However, I want you to appreciate it. As a gesture of appreciation, please each put $1,000 into my coffin when I die.” And so it happened. His sons became a doctor, a lawyer and a financial planner, each very successful financially. When their father’s time had come and they saw their father in the coffin, they remembered his wish. First, it was the doctor who put ten $100 bills onto the chest of the deceased. Then, came the financial planner, who also placed $1,000 there. Finally, it was the heartbroken lawyer’s turn. He dipped into his pocket, took out his check book, wrote a check for $3,000, put it into his father’s coffin, and took the $2,000 cash. He later went on to become a politician.

The wife suggested I get myself one of those penis enlargers, so I did. She’s 27, and her name’s KiKi. So far, so good. Solid suggestion. This is the story of the young female student flying in a two seated airplane with just the pilot. He has a heart attack and dies. She, frantic, grabs the mike and calls out a frantic May Day. “May Day! May Day! Help me! Help me! The pilot has had a heart attack and is dead and I don’t know how to fly. Someone help me! Please help me!” She then hears a voice on the radio saying: “This is Air Traffic Control and I have you loud and clear. I will talk you through this and get you back on the ground. I’ve had a lot of experience with this kind of problem. Now, just take a deep breath, stay calm and everything will be fine! Now give me your height and position.” She then says: “I’m 5’4” and I support Brad Pitt for President” “O.K.” says the voice on the radio, Repeat after me: “Our Father, Who art in Heaven” Two young boys; R.J. and M.B. walked into a pharmacy one day, picked out a box of tampons and proceeded to the checkout counter. Mr. Empson, the owner & Pharmacist, asked the older boy, “Son, how old are you?” “Eight,” R.J. proudly replied. Mr. Empson continued, “Do you know what these are used for?” R.J. replied, “not exactly, but they aren’t for me. They’re for him. He’s my brother, M.B., he’s four. We saw on TV that if you use these you would be able to swim and ride a bike. Right now, he can’t do either one.” A woman and a man are involved in a car accident. It’s a bad one. Both of their cars are totally demolished, but amazingly neither of them is hurt. After they crawl out of their cars, the man is yelling about women drivers. The woman says, “Wow, just look at our cars! There’s nothing left, but we’re unhurt. This must be a sign that we should become close friends. Flattered, the man replies, ‘Oh yes, I agree completely, this must be a sign. But you’re still at fault...women shouldn’t be allowed to drive. ’The woman continues, ‘And look at this, my car is completely demolished but this bottle of wine didn’t break. Surely it’s our destiny to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune. The man nods his head in agreement, opens it and drinks half the bottle and then hands it back to the woman. The woman takes the bottle, puts the cap back on and hands it back to the man. The man asks, ‘Aren’t you having any?’ The woman replies, ‘No. I think I’ll just wait for the police...’

Service And Repair On All American Made V-Twins And Harley Davidsons Spot Painting And Paint Repair Nestled in a small neighborhood in LaPlace, Greater New Orleans Therapeutic Riding Center quietly does great things for children and adults with disabilities. They provide a unique form of therapy that uses the horse as a therapeutic modality to improve lives by building strength, balance and coordination, and in some cases, even teaches kids to walk. Harley for Horses is an annual benefit motorcycle run. Proceeds support the therapeutic riding program, which does not receive federal state or local financial support. The ride is named after Harley, a diminutive pink pot bellied pig that was given to the center. The owners were going to help pay for her feed, but as soon as they dropped her off, GNOTRC never heard from them again. With a name like Harley, they figured that surely some of the Harley owners would consider helping. And they have answered that call since 1999! Although Harley has passed on, GNOTRC continues to have the ride to raise much needed funds for the riding center. The ride is open to any make motorcycle, having a Harley is not a requirement to join the benefit! After 17 years, GNOTRC has established Harley for Horses notoriety. Over 80 bikes rolled in this year’s benefit, which was escorted by St. John, Tangipahoa, Livingston, Ascension and St James Parish Sheriff’s Offices. The celebration raised approximately $9,000 for GNOTRC. The ride continues to be held in memory of Fallen St John Deputy Brandon

Nielsen who was killed in the line of duty in August 2012. GNOTRC’s biggest costs are feed and hay, followed by veterinary care and supplies, and insurance costs. GNOTRC held its first classes in October of 1993 with two horses and three riders, and has a rider fee of $25. To this date, we have never raised our fees, and those who cannot afford the fee are not turned away for their inability to pay. The program now serves over 30 children and adults with disabilities per month with eight horses and a donkey. Those with disabilities already face higher costs for care. We don’t want to add to our riders’ financial burden, and feel that it is on us to raise money for the program. People love riding their bikes, and they love supporting a charity. GNOTRC is the only therapeutic riding center south of Lake Ponchartrain and serves children from St John, St Charles, St James, Jefferson, Orleans, Tangipahoa, St Mary, and Terrebonne parishes. We always need more volunteers to be sidewalkers and horse leaders for our classes on Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m., and Sat at 9 and 10. We have volunteer opportunities right here for those who need hours for school, church or other commitments. For more information visit www.GNOTRC.com.

Bike Night At The Pitt For many years, McGuire’s Pitt Stop on Jefferson Highway in Jefferson, La, has been hosting one of the biggest bike nights in the state. Everyone that comes here on Wednesday nights say it’s the most diverse bike night around. There are a sea of colors of patch holders, non patch holders, and independents from near and far. Every style bike, dune buggy, and spider cams are present and we always meet someone that drove in from another state. Eaglerider

RODE HARD RIDERS Inc

The Rode Hard Riders, Inc. is an independent, promoting motorcycle riding club. The club was established on October 10, 2010 for the purpose of helping a local church with its Tailgate Cook-Off fund raiser. The organization grew rapidly and in its second year sponsored three benefit events and has continued to sponsor those same three fund raisers. The RHR raise funds to help organizations such as Special Olympics, Michael J Fox Parkinson’s Foundation and the Lydia Cancer Association. For the past five years RHR has partnered with the “Parks Craklin’ Cook-Off” to sponsor the “Kajun Iron Horse Poker Run” which is held on the first weekend after Easter, at Cecile Rousseau Poche Memorial Park in Parks, LA. This has been a “Team Fox for Parkinson’s Research” event for the past three years. On the third weekend in June we hold our “Levee Rat Biker Bash” even though the name of the event was changed three years ago it has benefitted Special Olympics for the past six years. The LRBB will be held at Red’s Levee Bar in Catahoula, LA for the fourth time and starts out with a “Kick-Off Party” on Friday night, on Saturday there will be a Poker Run, Desert Run and Biker Games. For the LRBB Poker Run food is served at each of the three stops and a complete meal when we return to Red’s. The second weekend in September is the “Lydia Food Fest” in Lydia, LA and the RHR put on the “Joker’s Wild Poker Run” for this huge fund raiser. The RHR Club holds its monthly meeting the first Wednesday of each month at Joey’s Sports Bar, 115 Terrace Hwy, Broussard, LA at 6:30PM. We currently have 32 members and at this time membership is open for four additional bikers. Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds and generations with the youngest being 36 years of age and the oldest 63. Even though we pride ourselves in helping others, we do plenty of “Members Only” events and activities. Each month the club goes on a day run for lunch at an out of the way “Mom and Pop” type restaurant or an overnight road trip for some back roads touring. The Lone Star Rally in Galveston, TX is a favorite of the RHR, each year the club rents a house and the Party is on! A week long

road trip to places like the Smokey Mountains, Texas Hill Country and Northern Arkansas is the highlight of calendar of events. The name “Rode Hard Riders” seems to be a big part of each adventure, on the last weekend in May of 2013 we were caught in snow on Mount Magazine, Arkansas and in the summer of 2014 it was the 100 year flood in the Texas Hill Country. One of our newest outings is a road trip for Memorial Day Weekend to Pensacola, FL for some sand between the toes and a little nightlife fun at Flora-Bama. The RHR Club offers its members an incentives program to help promote and encourage riding, especially to new and unique places. Members can earn the “Rode Hard Miles” patch for participating in our “Members Only” runs and road trips. There are also awards that can be earned either riding with the club or on your own, like our “A-Z Louisiana Towns”, “Gourmand”, “Bar Hopper” and “A-Z USA Towns” awards. The Rode Hard Rider Club would like to invite all bikers to come out and meet our RHR Family and “Pass a Good Time” at our Levee Rats Biker Bash, June 17&18, 2016, at Red’s Levee Bar in Catahoula, La By: Ed Oubre
