Letter From The Publishers

May is not only to recognize our beloved mothers, but it is also Motorcycle Awareness Month. We are all sick and tired of losing our friends and loved ones to senseless accidents. We are tired of having to find the right words to comfort a mother that has lost her son or daughter to a mindless driver that is not paying attention, or is distracted while driving. We are tired of the person that killed our loved ones getting away with it by only having a ticket issued to them. Our hearts are broken beyond repair, when we look into friends eyes that just lost their beloved family member. We want to encourage each and every one of you to write to your senators to vote for the bill that was just voted on by the senate, and lost….We especially want to encourage all of you riders from the northern part of the state to get your senators to vote YES, as they are the senators from that area of the state that voted NO. We also want to encourage all of you to join ABATE.. They currently have 1,200 in active members! Shame on those of us that are not fighting for our rights! These killers on the road need to be punished with more than a ticket! Please be safe out there, and make sure if you do not already do it, to tell someone where you are riding if you are alone and when you are expected to return. Thank you to all of our loyal fans, our supporters, and our new advertisers for making us the number one magazine in the state! Keep those stories and pictures coming in! And remember, where there are bikes, there is going to be thunder!

Bike Night With The Lamplighter Starting off our 5 day road trip touring the state for the magazine was an awesome adventure, and our first stop was The Lamplighter in Lake Charles. WOW…was that a party! This was the first time that we have experienced a biker bar with so many colors and independent bikers represented all in one spot at the same time and all collectively celebrating together without a hitch. It was one of the best times we’ve had since taking over Thunder Roads. D.J. Big E was there, along with Maddie taking extra pics, and we even participated in a live feed for Bikers Inner Circle Radio (Charlie would have been proud). We gave away alot of door prizes, (compliments of The Lamplighter) Thunder Roads shirts, and The Lamplighter fed us some of the best jambalaya we’ve eaten north of I-10. Kaitlin did a photo shoot for us, and we even auctioned off a bikini for the Wind Therapy Program with the charity’s president in the house. Tanya wants everyone to know that you are all welcome at The Lamplighter, not just on Bike night, but every night. She runs a tight ship, no drama and no bullshit there! Thanks to our own Mikey “Happy” Horton for inviting us, and to Jenn, and Drifter for accompanying us. Mostly thanks to Tanya for a rockin good time and to everyone who came out. Tanya invited us to come back, so we will be there once or so a month to give away some swag and take photos, so if we missed ya, make sure you come see us in June…

About The Cover

Kelly Hobson Band She is a beautiful, sexy, talented model, singer, and actress, and is the FACE of Troubadour Vodka that is featured with Kelly on our cover for May. Kelly is from Quitman, Louisiana, and is currently working on her first album. Her first single off of the album “damned if I do” available on I tunes now. She has managed her own career, booked her own shows, and managed her band. The Kelly Hobson Band. She is making a name for herself all over the south, and says her inspiration was her grandfather, Al Hobson. He and his band are a part of Louisiana Musical History, “Al Hobson and the Skyliners”, the house band at the Louisiana Hay Ride. (All you young folks check it out on You Tube). Kelly is a born entertainer and in her spare time she rides bikes as well. Some of her most loyal fans are bikers. She has played the Succer Punch Sally Rally, the Brothers Keeper Rally, and the Blowout Biker Rally. She will also be headlining the 1st annual Throttle Back Rally this year too. You can find her tour schedule on www. bandsintown.com/kellyhobson . You can also check her out this fall on “Destination America “as a featured guest on “Killing BigFoot”. You will be seeing a lot more of Kelly in the future at Rally’s, on television, and multi media publications. Read on about her sponsors for the cover “Troubadour Vodka” I like to consider myself a “vodka connoisseur”, so when I was asked to taste this product for the first time a few weeks ago, I was reluctant. But I must say, this is probably the smoothest vodka I have ever tasted. And being on the road crew for Thunder Roads 9 months out of the year, you can imagine how much vodka I have tasted! I love their story as well. The marketing director, Shane, sent over the Troubador story to me, and I wanted to share it with you. The originator and creator of the Troubadour brand was Thomas German. He and his boss, Buck Stobart worked together at ExxonMobil’s Beaumont Refinery in southeast Texas.

Carter Oswalt

Buck and Thomas grew quite close over the years. Thomas’ life long dream was to distill and handcraft vodka using an Eastern European family recipe that had been handed down for generations dating back to the 1800’s. Buck was captivated by Thomas’ dream, and allowed him time off as needed to pursue his dream when possible. Thomas’ descendants migrated from Poland, the supposed birthplace of vodka. They moved to Germany around the 1850’s, where the recipe is believed to have been perfected and written down in its current form. The family eventually migrated to America in the early 1900’s. Thomas gave life to his dream in the summer of 2010, when he left ExxonMobil and purchased his first 10 gallon pot belly, wood fired still for test batches. Just as was thought, the vodka was spot on. In 2011 Troubadour Vodka was born. The brand was coined ‘Troubadour’ after a ‘wandering singer’. The vodka recipe had wandered through time and made it to the bottle nearly 150 years later. Due to unfortunate circumstances in 2014, the distillery had come to nearly a halt due to some family health conditions in Thomas’ family. He knew only one other man to reach out to, that had shared his love and history for the vodka. One man that would get this TRUE handcraft vodka to all of America, Buck Stobart. Buck, and his good buddy Walt Stelly having been friends since the 2nd grade and partners in an oilfield service company for nearly 10 years met with their CPA and were told they needed to divest some capital. Buck and Walt purchased Troubadour Vodka in late 2014 and acquired the brand from Thomas. Just as Thomas had envisioned, Troubadour Vodka is and always will be a true handcraft. Each bottle is handled 10 times, slow polished to perfection, and every batch taste tested for quality. Its” Damn Good Vodka, Damn Right!” Hey, and lets not forget our other model on the cover this month! (This one is for the ladies). Meet Carter Oswalt. From Benton La. He is employed in the oilfield industry, a biker, and an advocate for working out. Carter says that had it not been for the gym and his love for it, he may have continued living his life on a path that could have eventually been destructive. Well, I can tell you Carter that all the ladies out there are happy you started “pumping” it out as well! Carter is also involved in helping to promote Troubadour Vodka. Thunder Roads Louisiana would like to thank Kelly for her poise and grace, as she was easy to work with. Many thanks to Scott and his crew over at Scotts Audio in Shreveport for the generous use of the shop, its man cave, and the awesome bikes and we look forward to a long term relationship with you. We want to thank our set designer, Crystal Chandler, and Shane Nicholson for the opportunity to represent “your baby” Troubadour, so that our readers may enjoy the finest vodka I have ever tasted. FOR ALL of you in Louisiana, if you would like to see Troubadour at your favorite watering hole, rally, or festival, make sure you contact your local Anheuser Bush distributor. By: Renee

The Little Bar That Could In 2006, just before her 62nd birthday, local biker Carol Hudson retired from selling real estate, with the knowledge that only one person in her family, her mother, had ever lived past 62. She lived to be 62 years 5 days old. Carol’s husband Ron, knowing his wife would never be able to sit still, made the suggestion that they look into taking over one of the bars on Lake Bistineau that was closing to give Carol something to do. On March 14, 2006 they proudly opened Our Place Bar & Grill for its first day of business. Carol started many traditions when they took over down at Cryer’s Camp. Getting the community involved for a 4th of July boat parade, then of course a Mardi Gras Parade. And lets not forget the monthly birthday parties. If you have met Carol once, you are probably on her birthday calendar. She likes to make sure she doesn’t miss anyone. When I asked Carol what it was that had helped them to succeed where others before them had failed at owning the bar, she was quick to tell me that it was the people of the lake and surrounding community. “They have been good as gold to us and without them we wouldn’t be here”, she said. Our Place Bar & Grill is the “go-to place” for any organization needing a place for a fundraiser. From bikers to church associations, they all know that Carol & Ron will not only host the event, but will donate heavily and work their tails off for a good cause. I could not even begin to guess the amount of money that has been raised at this little bar on Lake Bistineau or how many fundraisers have been hosted there. What I do know is that no matter what the cause, these people who have been called “biker trash” and “lake trash” have always opened their doors and their hearts wide, even in the wake of their own tragic loss, to help anyone who was in need. Fast forward 10 years to March of 2016, On what was to be the 10 year anniversary of their grand opening, Carol, and her husband Ron, watched helplessly as the lake began to rise and the water got closer and closer. Overnight the water claimed the “cook shack” and the trailer next to it and was quickly approaching the bar. By midday the next day, the water was to the porch of the bar and by that night had entered the bar. It would be 2 weeks before the water receded for them to start clean up efforts. And in true form, the community came together to help put things back together to get their neighborhood bar back up and running. Carol only had to mention that they had lost a couple freezers and a refrigerator and before she could replace them, 3 of her customers had brought appliances to her. And though the anniversary was delayed, it was in fact celebrated the last weekend of March. I completely agree with Carol that the people of the lake community and surrounding area have played a major role in their success. But I also believe that we, the community have also been blessed to have had Carol and Ron in our lives and have prospered as well. So when you come up to the top of the boot, come see us over on Lake Bistineau in Elm Grove, LA. Have a cold one, enjoy a Rita Burger, and enjoy the view from the porch as you visit a little while. Pastor’s Corner May is always a busy month in the motorcycle world. It seems our weekends are filled with benefits, rides and of course dodging the rain showers. May marks the beginning of Motorcycle Awareness Month and I hope you will take time to inspect your riding gear and make some safety checks on your scooter before you head out on the highway. But May 8th is the day we set aside to honor Mother’s. I am fortunate to still have my mother and she still is my biggest supporter. At nearly 75 years old she still will occasionally jump on the back of the Road King with my Father and hit the road. I have learned over the past year just how important it is for me to keep in touch with my mother. I know our schedules with work and family obligations can be very demanding on our time. But for those of us who still have our mom’s, I encourage you to make the time. I received a letter from a mother, who hadn’t seen her son in almost 30 years. Because I don’t do services on Mother’s Day, and I encourage everyone as part of their new life, to allow God to bring about reconciliation in their families. This Mother who saw her son ride off as a teenager saw her son ride in on the same bike almost 30 years later to say “I Love You Mom”. In her letter she said that she never thought she would ever see him again. She was so happy, and so was the son. Every year during this time I hear many of my brothers say they wish that they could have one more minute with their mother. In many cases their mother may have passed, but I alway encourage my brothers and friends in two ways. First, to hang on to the good memories and allow them to keep mom close to our hearts. We may not can touch her, but we can feel her love, hear her words in our memories, and know she will always be part of us if we allow her to be. Secondly, for those of us who still have our moms, I encourage us to take the time to stop by for a visit, pick up the phone and give her a call if only to say I love you. I thinks we should take advantage of every opportunity we have to tell not only our mothers, fathers, spouses and children, but our friends, and brothers how much they mean to us. I just recently sat down with my wife and outlined what I wanted when I passed. One of the things I told her was I didn’t want any flowers. She asked me why not? To which I replied I want them to bring me flowers while I’m alive. Now you know this isn’t about flowers right? But about taking the time to tell those who matter, who touch our lives, those we love, how much they mean to us. So take the opportunity to share your love and appreciation with those around you. A good place to start is with your mother, after all my guess is she has an unconditional love for you. A mother loves in most cases is a reflection of God’s love for us. It doesn’t matter what we have done, how long it has been, His love is still there. To all the Mother’s, let me say “Happy Mother’s Day”. Blessings Pastor T

Renegade Sends Two To Compete In The Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge Alexandria, LA- April 6, 2016) Renegade Harley-Davidson is sending two of their own on The Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge™ June 21 –July 2. Daniel Neathery and Gary Cooper will travel 10,000 intense miles on a Harley-Davidson. They can only take what can fit in a saddlebag, no speeding allowed, cell phones are for emergency only and you must sleep outside throughout the entire course. The Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge began in 2010 and covered 8500 miles. Since then it has challenged over 900 riders through an extreme 10,000 miles. The 2016 Challenge will start at the Pala Indian Resort and Casino on the Pala Indian Reservation on the West Coast of Southern California and finish at Wolf’s Run in the heart of the Seneca Indian Nation (Irving, NY). Each rider will wind through multiple National Parks, Reservations and scenic routes. According to the Hoka Hey website, “The enlightenment, spiritual awakening, friendships and memories created during an event such as the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge are priceless. They feed the heart and soul, causing each to grow so that the warrior rider emerges stronger and wiser – able to tackle life’s next challenge with courage and grace. That is the true purpose of the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge … to foster a greater appreciation for the earth, its people and the connections that create harmony and love.” Daniel Neathery #856, from Natchitoches, Louisiana, learned about the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge in 2012 when his employer, Renegade HD, was an official HHMC Check Point as the Challenge came through Alexandria, Louisiana. With some encouragement from Chuck Marble #85 and sponsorship from his employer, Renegade Harley Davidson, Daniel is able to participate in this year’s Challenge. Daniel will ride a new 2016 Road Glide for the

2016 Challenge. Daniel’s goal is to raise $10,000 to help pay for expenses and to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Daniel states that, “He is excited about seeing the country, meeting new people, spending time riding and raising funds for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.” Gary Cooper # 859 of Houston, TX. has long had a fascination with long distance riding, but only experienced it from the interstate. After hearing about the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge from a friend and fellow rider # 856 Daniel Neatherly, Gary felt this was something he wanted to get involved with. “Not only does this ride challenge the riders’ motorcycle ability but also their willingness to get involved in their own communities and help others” was something Gary really found attractive. Gary is working with Daniel to raise funds for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Gary is going to test the advice he has received from former rider #754 Daniel Thibodeaux to expect the unexpected and be prepared for anything. Endurance, stamina, and good navigation are key to success for the challenge. He will be riding a 2012 CVO Custom Road Glide. He thanks his Family, Legends MC Houston Chapter and Renegade Harley-Davidson for their support. Why Louisiana Needs to adopt the Model Vulnerable Road Users Act For All Public Road Users In Louisiana By Glenn C. McGovern, Attorney and MSF Instructor

There is a disturbing increasing fatality rate trend over the last five years of careless and distracted drivers of cars crashing into pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcycle, disabled persons using electric scooters and other noncar vehicles.1 Pedestrian fatalities are up 17.9% in the last five years.2 Bicycles hit by careless car drivers have risen 112.5% in the last five years. Motorcyclist fatalities hit by careless car drivers have risen 12.7% in the last five years.3 Louisiana was fifth highest in the U.S. for bicycle fatalities in 2009-2011.4 Bicycle usage has increased very rapidly and will continue to do so in the future. Motorcycle usage varies with fuel prices, weather patterns and the economy. Motorcycle, scooter and moped uses are expected to increase in the future. The elderly use of motorized scooters crossing streets is another increasing trend. Oregon was the first state to adopt a Vulnerable Road Users Act to reduce traffic crashes of cars into vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcycles, the handicapped in electric scooters, skateboarders, and slow farm implement type vehicles. Since then 17 states have also greatly increase penalties for careless and distracted car drivers. In Louisiana, if a car driver kills or seriously injures a bicyclist for example, and he does not flee or is intoxicated, he will usually be issued a failure to yield $100 misdemeanor ticket for failure to yield or to maintain 3 feet from a bicyclist. The same $100 misdemeanor ticket is usually issued when a car driver kills or seriously injures a motorcyclist. The car driver usually has no injury but the non-caged road user’s injuries are almost always death, brain damages, multiple-fractures or other serious injuries. After three years of efforts of getting signed petitions, letters to senators and representatives and speaking to various vulnerable user’s groups, of bicyclists, motorcyclists, handicapped and elderly groups, I finally got Senator Gary Smith of Norco and Representative Stephanie Hilferty of New Orleans to introduce SB 171 the All Road Users Act, an identical version of the Model Vulnerable Road Users Act56, that just passed thru the Senate Judiciary Committee C on April 12, 2016. After hearing the stories of a handicapped person further crippled when her electric scooter was hit in a crosswalk with the truck driver receiving a $100 misdemeanor traffic ticket, a widow whose motorcyclists husband was hit by a careless drug impaired car driver and received a $100 failure to yield traffic ticket and several bicyclists that were injured or lost friends to fatal bicycle-car crashes with the car driver receiving a $100 ticket, several of the committee members approved the bill and several signed on as co-authors of SB 171.7

offenses, providing additional charging options to local judges and prosecutors they wish to have. 3. The All Public Road Users Law provides An Enhanced Penalty for All Road Users that result in serious injury or death, which have severe societal costs. 4. All traffic violations are serious and an enhanced penalty for All Public Road User Law is a tool to use as a deterrent and prevention tool for law enforcement. 5. An enhanced penalty for All Public Road User Law promotes public awareness of the threat posed by motor vehicles and the severe injuries and deaths of people outside of motor vehicles. 6. Current criminal laws requiring specific intent for failure to yield more often than not cannot be applied to prosecute offending motorists who kill or seriously injury all other noncaged Public Road Users. 7.But throughout the region, people who drive carelessly and cause injury or death get away with no legal sanction, beyond perhaps a traffic ticket. Why? One reason is that district attorneys have few tools beyond criminally negligent homicide -- which requires meeting an extremely high bar. As one county prosecutor puts it, “Vehicular crimes prosecutors fight an uphill battle every day. Whether we like it or not, a single act of negligence by a driver will not usually be enough to bring charges. Ten or even 20 mph over the speed limit will generally not suffice on its own.” 8.Vulnerable user laws can act as a middle ground between negligent homicide and a traffic citation. They may create a new traffic offense (e.g. “careless driving”) or may provide for license suspension in collisions that cause serious injury or death. 9. Vulnerable User Laws have been passed in Hawaii, Connecticut, Vermont, Oregon, Illinois, Washington and Delaware, and the New York State Legislature passed two similar laws (Hayley & Diego’s Law and Elle’s Law). 10. There is a reluctance of district attorneys to prosecute cases against careless or distracted motorists but accidents due to careless but careless and distracted motorists should be fully prosecuted as a deterrent. The All Road Users Act makes if easier for district attorneys and judges to fashion more appropriate penalties such a suspension of licenses, fines of $2000, community service and jail time that may be issued. Let’s hope the Louisiana legislature will adopt the provisions of the Model Vulnerable Road Users Act like it has been adopted in other states.

Here are ten reasons why Model Vulnerable Road Users Act (SB 171) is needed in Louisiana: 1. The enhanced penalty options including license suspension, retraining, probation and jail penalties for the All Public Road Users Law provides general deterrence for bad behaviors that injure all road users not in cars/trucks (i.e.non-caged) road users. The bill requires the offender to appear at a hearing so an analysis of the facts can be heard and not just pay a fine. 2. An enhanced penalty for All Public Road Users Law can fill legal gaps between less and more severe THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE LOUISIANA 15

News Bytes WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH IS NOT PLANNING TO PROTEST 2016 BIKER RALLIES A few weeks ago, a purported news story made the rounds about the federal government instituting a curfew on all bikers, and now the latest trending UNTRUE story claims the “Westboro Baptist Church Announces Plans To Protest 2016 Motorcycle Rallies.”Citing a long list of major bike events, the article says a church spokesperson “confirmed that arrangements have been made for Westboro Baptist Church members to attend and protest multiple motorcycle rallies throughout 2016.” This spam is sourced from a known hoax website, but many have unknowingly forwarded and shared the “news” across the Internet.WBC has no such planned interactions with bikers, although the group’s vile protests at soldier’s funerals were themselves the catalyst for bikers to come together to shield funeral-goers from the hateful signs and chants, and forming the Patriot Guard Riders. While you obviously can’t trust everything you read on the Internet, the National Coalition of Motorcyclists has been a proven source of timely, reliable and valuable motorcycling information for more than thirty years, and NCOM encourages you to confidently share NCOM Biker Newsbytes with fellow concerned riders via print and social media.

CONGRESSIONAL BILL WOULD PROMOTE USE OF E15 GAS Despite controversy over the proliferation of E15 fuel, which is not approved for use by any motorcycle manufacturer and can invalidate warranties, Congress will consider a bill to expand existing infrastructure utilized in the “process of dispensing fuel containing covered renewable or alternative energy.”HR 4673, the “Renewable Fuel Utilization, Expansion, and Leadership Act” (REFUEL Act) would provide federal grant money to subsidize the installation of blender pumps and equipment necessary to expand the availability of E15 gasoline, a fuel blend containing 15% ethanol. The measure directly conflicts with earlier Congressional action taken in the FARM bill to prohibit funding for ethanol blender pumps, in an effort to restrict E15 expansion in the U.S. marketplace.

APEHANGERS LEGALIZED IN GEORGIA A bill in Georgia modifies their existing handlebar height law to allow for taller bars. Companion bills HB 785 (passed 136-0) and SB 233 (passed 15 inches above the seat to 25 inches.Discriminatory in nature, handlebar height laws were never about rider safety, and most were adopted by 47-0) call for a statement condemning motorcycle profiling to be included states in the sixties to give law enforcement a tool for pulling over bikers on in police policies and require training of officers on “motorcycle profiling,” choppers. defined in the legislation as “The arbitrary use of the fact that an individual rides a motorcycle or wears motorcycle-related clothing or paraphernalia MINNESOTA IDENTIFIES “AUTOCYCLE” as a factor in deciding to stop, question, take enforcement action, arrest, Is the Slingshot a car or a motorcycle? the report, saying: “We will, a little later this spring, have a big crush-in, where we intend to take all of these things and crush them.”According to authorities, large groups of bikes riding in New York, often on non-road-legal dirt bikes or quads, have been a growing problem. NEW YORK ‘TEXTALYZER’ COULD IDENTIFY DISTRACTED DRIVERS Drunk driving is dangerous, and so is texting while driving, but while police have long had a breathalyzer test for drivers who imbibe too much, until now they haven’t had similar tools to combat distracted driving.According to the Centers for Disease Control, distracted driving causes 8 deaths every day, and now New York lawmakers are considering a bill that would allow police to use a piece of technology to see if a phone was in use during an accident, causing a distraction. The device is called a “textalyzer,” a roadside device that can read cellphones to detect recent activity. The unprecedented piece of legislation would require drivers who have recently been in a crash to submit their cell phones to police for testing. The textalyzer wouldn’t be able to read contacts or content, such as what you write in your texts, but it would tell the cops if the phone was in use before the crash. The textalyzer also would work like a breathalyzer in another way -- refusing to have your phone scanned would result in having your license immediately revoked. CALIFORNIA CONSIDERS TRAFFIC SCHOOL FOR MOTORCYCLISTS Traffic violators in California have long enjoyed the option of completing an authorized “Traffic Violator School” in lieu of adjudicating certain minor vehicle code infractions, thereby avoiding “points” against their driving record and dismissing the citation. These traffic schools originated in California, where violators have a choice of approved defensive driving courses, everything from comedy to singles and even online courses, but nothing for motorcycle riders even if their ticket was on a bike. Now, Assembly Bill 1932 would “authorize a person who is ordered or permitted to complete a course of instruction at a licensed traffic violator school as a result of an offense committed while operating a motorcycle to instead complete an advanced-level motorcyclist safety training course.” The bill authorizes the Commissioner of the California Highway Patrol to adopt standards for course content, contact hours, curriculum, instructor training and testing, and instructional quality control for the advanced-level motorcyclist safety training course.

PENNSYLVANIA ROLLS OUT FREE MOTORCYCLE TRAINING Professional motorcycle training is recognized as the most important part of riding, and with warmer weather ahead the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) recommends free motorcycle training through the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program (PAMSP) as part of a rider’s preparation for the 2016 riding season.Whether totally new to motorcycles or an experienced rider, there are courses available for everyone. From the 15-hour Basic Rider Course (BRC) for novices, to the six-hour Basic Rider Course 2 (BRC2) to refresh skills, or the one-day Advanced Rider Course (ARC) for more seasoned riders, free course are being offered at 76 state-wide locations.Motorcycle learner’s permit holders who successfully complete a basic rider course will be issued a motorcycle license. FEDS RESUME CONTROVERSIAL ASSET SEIZURE PROGRAM Bikers have become all too familiar with the law enforcement tactic of asset seizure, with club patches and trademarks coming under fire in recent years, and now the Justice Department has just announced that it is resuming the controversial practice that allows local police departments to funnel a large portion of assets seized from citizens into their own coffers under federal law.Asset forfeiture is a contentious practice that lets police seize and keep cash and property from people who are never convicted - and in many cases, never charged - with wrongdoing. The “equitablesharing” program gives police the option of prosecuting asset forfeiture cases under federal instead of state law. Federal forfeiture policies are more permissive than many state policies, allowing police to keep up to 80% of assets they seize. The Justice Department had suspended payments under this program back in December due to budget cuts included in last year’s spending bill, raising hopes the department was reining in the practice, but law enforcement groups recently rallied members of Congress to call on the Justice Department to restore the payments.Reports have found that the use of the practice has exploded in recent years, prompting concern that police may be motivated more by profit and less by justice. In 2014, federal authorities seized over $5 billion in assets. QUOTABLE QUOTE: “News is the first rough draft of history.” ~ Philip L. Graham (1915-63), journalist & newspaper publisher

Honor Thy Mother.... This month’s Lipstick Riders is a special edition, where I get to honor 2 awesome ladies that ride, a mother/daughter edition. This is a tribute of a mother’s love and this is a tribute to 2 special ladies because of who they are and what they mean, to me and everyone around them. The first honoree is Jaime Falcon, a first responder who saved lives daily as a paramedic and with the fire department before her untimely death in 2014. Jaime was one the coolest people I knew with the biggest heart and the baddest bike. She was a true definition of what a LipStick Rider is ! Someone who gave whole heartedly to the community, someone who loved riding and wasn’t afraid to look beautiful doing it... She was notorious for sporting her pink everywhere she went for Breast Cancer Awareness on every ride. Jaime was an all around great person who is missed by many, especially her mom, my next honoree, “Momma Cee”. Cynthia Dore has showed me that age has no limits when she is doing something she loves to do. She loves to ride ! That’s why at 68, when most people are suppose to retire, she decided she still has a lot left in her and continues to work and ride. She had her daughters 96 Sporty rebuilt into a trike so she could ride... Ride to be free and ride to be with her daughter. Shelly Davis put the trike kit on and Airbrush Airstrike did the awesome paint job paying tribute to Jaime and her Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbons. Anywhere you will see that bike; you will see “Momma Cee” riding it with a smile. So, Happy Mother’s Day Momma Cee and to all the mothers out there! There’s their story, tell me yours! my goal in writing this article is to show everyone that we have some bad ass Lipstick Riders in Louisiana! Everyday women that love to ride just as much as the guys do. It doesn’t matter what your ride, all that matters is THAT YOU RIDE .... I love getting to meet all of our lady riders out there and tell our readers about our lipstick riders. So, if you would like to be featured as one of our bad ass lipstick riders, send me your story and pictures to lipstick.rider.trmla@gmail. com and let your story be told. Till Next Month, Dina

April 2016 Louisiana Thunder Run WINNERS!! Do you have your Ride & Win card yet?

Cy Arcement My motto in life is , When life gets you down its just one down and five up . After spending the first weekend of April at the Baton Rouge State Capitol Raceway with the wonderful people from the AMRA and the kick ass racers I was around, my motto stands true. I went into this weekend a fan of racing and left with a different respect for the racing community as a whole. Starting off Friday everyone was setting up tuning bikes and saying hello as it kicked off the racing season for a lot of the racers. Saturday it was time, time for the bikes and the racers to get runs set, parts tuned, and attitudes checked. It was everyone’s chance to see who their biggest opponent would be Sunday. Now you would think that with so much at stake for a lot of people the competition and the tension would be head to head. That statement is the farthest from the truth. This is a community as a whole, a family circle. If you need a part and a fellow racer has an extra one, its “here ya go brother”. They all support each other and come together as a unified community doing what they all love, living life in those few seconds that quarter of a mile gives them. Sunday at the races got kicked off , and I met several racers and watched many of them run. Sam Barkley of Bradford TN sat down with me and I asked her what was it like to be a female racing in a predominantly man’s sport, and her answer surprised me. Sam told me that in 2010 she was actually nominated by her fellow racers as Rookie of The Year and brought that title home along with placing 2nd for the year in the Eliminators class. “Digit” from Houma was there as well and on his Shovelhead. This is the bikes first year on the track, but I see some points being collected in upcoming races. The team Bad Influence was there with their first year with a nitro bike. This is a team of hard working men coming up fast in their class. Jason Romero of the Road Shakers team placed 3rd in Open Street. Jason is rising up on the leader’s board Barry Guillory is currently in 2nd place in the Hot street category with the turtle bike, which is currently having some major motor changes. But no worries, it will still be “the turtle” with that turtle look. And I’ll close with my all time favorite racer ROCKSTONE. Leading in points in the pro fuel/nitro funny cars. When these bikes step up to the line its no joke! Running quarters in 7 or 8 seconds. I asked Rockstone what was going through his mind when he is doing 173 plus mph down the stretch. His reply was “did I win”? And let’s do it again! Cy Arcement . Cy lives in Lafayette LA . And is 33 years old . He is a member of the Road Shakers race team and is the newest racer to be sponsored by Thunder Roads Louisiana. He races in the Eliminators class. You should keep your eye on him, as he

will be blasting through the points board this year. Cy started off the season with a few uneventful accidents. He started with a beautiful and rare 2009 red Night Train that y’all may have seen on the track the last few years. As his luck would have it, just a week before the races, while riding with a brother, the bike was completely totaled. He went into the first race of the season in Baton Rouge riding a Rocker belonging to John Wayne. Cy hit the tracks Saturday morning with a very consistent time of 11.5 in a quarter. Making every racer in the Eliminators class keep that thought of lining up beside him in the back of their minds. And then Sunday with the consistency of the day before, not only his mind, but the minds of everyone who had watched him for test and tunes Saturday. Surrounded by competition, but completely focused on those few seconds he was about to face. As he got to the line you could smell the burnt rubber and gasoline in the air from the weekend. Focused and ready for the lights Cy hit the throttle and down the track he went. Neck and neck with his opponent it was hard to tell who was going on to the next round. Cy was beat out by just a thousandth of a second. No worries though! Because his past endeavors has lead Cy to buying a 2013 Night Rod Special! So Gulfport Eliminators watch out, because he is coming with a taste of defeat in his mouth and the hope of win in his heart! You can’t keep a guy like Cy down long before he comes back and let’s everyone know who’s knocking on the door. Juiceman From Houma La. He races a 2015 black street glide, accompanied with a level 5 screaming eagle motor. Juiceman will be sure to show you that baggers are made for more than just comfort. While at Baton Rouge raceway I had a chance to sit and speak with him and, he is by far one of my favorite people to talk to. Juiceman blew us all away the first time he laid rubber down on the track Saturday , running low 11s in a quarter , but he has a few surprises up his sleeve for the rest of the racing season . Let’s just say he started out the season in the Eliminators class but he will be blowing spectators and fellow racers minds when he moves up to the Dresser class. He will be adding a lil extra “juice” to the bike after he adds a new nitrous system and a few other modifications. I have no doubt we will be seeing him pulling low 10s in a quarter. Juiceman stated that he will be in Bowling Green, Kentucky as well as the Gulf Port Blow outs. If there is ever a man that can fight his way to the top you better believe we are going to see him raising a some hell all the way there ! So until the Gulf Port Blow Outs which is the last weekend in May …( please see the ad in this issue for the 34th annual Blow Out) Till next time….JENN

The IRS decides to audit Grandpa, and summons him to the IRS office. The IRS auditor was not surprised when Grandpa showed up with his attorney. The auditor said, “Well, sir, you have an extravagant lifestyle and no full-time employment, Which you explain by saying that you win money gambling.. I”m not sure the IRS finds that believable.” I”m a great gambler, and I can prove it,” says Grandpa. “How about a demonstration?” The auditor thinks for a moment and said, “Okay. Go ahead.” Grandpa says, “I”ll bet you a thousand dollars that I can bite my own eye.” The auditor thinks a moment and says, “It”s a bet.” Grandpa removes his glass eye and bites it. The auditor”s jaw drops. Grandpa says, “Now, I”ll bet you two thousand dollars that I can bite my other eye.” Now the auditor can tell Grandpa isn”t blind, so he takes the bet. Grandpa removes his dentures and bites his good eye. The stunned auditor now realizes he has wagered and lost three grand, with Grandpa”s attorney as a witness. He starts to get nervous. “Want to go double or nothing?” Grandpa asks “I”ll bet you six thousand dollars that I can stand on one side of your desk, and pee into that wastebasket on the other side, and never get a drop anywhere in between.” The auditor, twice burned, is cautious now, but he looks carefully and decides there”s no way this old guy could possibly manage that stunt, so he agrees again. Grandpa stands beside the desk and unzips his pants, but although he strains mightily, he can”t make the stream reach the wastebasket on the other side, so he pretty much urinates all over the auditor”s desk. The auditor leaps with joy, realizing that he has just turned a major loss into a huge win. But Grandpa”s own attorney moans and puts his head in his hands. “Are you okay?” the auditor asks. “Not really,” says the attorney. “This morning, when Grandpa told me he”d been summoned for an audit, he bet me twenty-five thousand dollars that he could come in here and piss all over your desk and that you”d literally be happy about it!” Guts-Is arriving home late, after a night out with the lads, being met by your wife with a broom, & having the “Guts” to ask: “Are you still cleaning, or are you flying somewhere?” Balls-Is coming home late after a night out with the lads, reeking of perfume w/lipstick on your collar, slapping your wife on the bum and having the “Balls” to say: “You”re next, Chubby.” Both have same result. Sudden death.

One morning, before he goes out to the fields, the farmer says to his sweet, albeit ditzy blonde young wife, “The Artificial Insemination man is coming to impregnate one of our cows today. I drove a nail into the twoby-four above the cow”s stall so you can show him where it is, okay?” The Artificial Insemination man arrives. Suzy takes him down the long row of cows until she sees the nail, and tells him, “This is the one. This one right here!” “How did you know this is the cow to be bred?” the A.I. guys asks curiously to the ditzy cute blonde. “By the nail over her stall,” Suzy says proudly. Then the man asks, “What”s the nail for?” Well, duh, I reckon” it”s to hang your pants on.” When little Tony Soprano returned home from elementary school, in his youth, he told his Dad he got an F in math. “Why?” asks the father “The teacher asked “How much is 2x3”, I said “6”, replies Tony. “But that”s right!” says his dad. “Yeah, but then she asked me “How much is 3x2?” “What”s the f***ing difference?” screams the father. “That”s exactly what I said!”, little Tony yells. A few minutes before the church services started, the congregation was sitting in their pews talking. Suddenly, Satan appeared at the front of the church. Everyone started screaming and running for the front entrance, trampling each other in a frantic effort to get away from evil incarnate. Soon the church was empty except for William who sat calmly in his pew without moving, seemingly oblivious to the fact that God”s ultimate enemy was in his presence.. So Satan walked up to William and said, “Do you know who I am?” William replied, “Yep, sure do.” “Aren”t you afraid of me?” Satan asked. “Nope, sure ain”t.” said the calm as a clam William. “Don”t you realize I can kill you with one word?” asked Satan. “Don”t doubt it for a minute,” returned William, in an even tone. “Did you know that I can cause you profound, horrifying AGONY for all eternity? stated Satan. “Yep,” was the calm reply. “And you are still not afraid?” asked Satan. “Nope,” said William. More than a little perturbed, Satan asked, “Why aren”t you afraid of me?” William calmly replied, “been married to your sister for over 40 years now”.

Benefit For Brad What a turn out! Pitt Stop West held a benefit for a local biker that went down to help him with his medical expenses, and some of our road crew was there to help with the festivities. Uncle Jerry took photos, and Bikers Heart provided the dunking booth. E.J. Young (aka Joker) got soaked over and over, and so did some lovely ladies,( but we cannot publish their sexy pictures). Most everyone stayed the whole day to party with Brad. Kickstart handled most of the details to make sure that everything came off without a hitch. Thanks to everyone that came and participated and to all of the sponsors that donated items, and especially to Timmy Lirette for his awesome Timmy Burgers! It’s always a successful event when everyone arrives back to their homes and family’s safe.

New Orleans Harley Davidson

New Orleans Harley Davidson in Metaire, is just a few blocks from Thunder Roads Louisiana headquarters. So obviously we frequent the store often, and have watched it grow over the years and go through many changes. Recently we took some time away from the road, and went in to do a photo shoot and meet the new manager dale. As always, we were treated with courtesy and respect. Not only is it a beautiful showroom with super friendly staff, but it is a FUN store. We always look for the positive points in every dealership we go in, and they all have positive points to them, but this dealership makes you feel wanted. Not a number and not a bunch of high pressure hype. They make it a pleasurable experience. We LOVE all Harley dealers across the state, and love to go into any business that makes you feel welcome… From the receptionist Beth that welcomes you when you walk in, and all the way to the staff on the top floor, you will feel like you are home at New Orleans Harley davidson Thank you to all of you for making our afternoon a good one. Remember to stop by with your Thunder Run card to get discounts, a chance to win the monthly prizes, and a chance to win a brand new bike at the Finale party in October.
