HOLLYWOOD -- Olivia DeHavilland, the last living star of "Gone With the Wind" (1939), has been suing "Feud: Bette and Joan" producer Ryan Murphy and FX over the 10-part mini-series. The dispute involves the way she was portrayed and for the words they had Catherine Zetta-Jones say as her. DeHavilland says she'd never be so unkind and use the language and negative comments attributed to her.

Catherine Zetta-Jones in "Feud" Her case for defamation was heard in a California Court of Appeals in late March. There wasn't supposed to be a decision for 90 days, but a week later the appeals court dismissed the case. DeHavilland's lawyer says they will take it to the California Supreme Court because one of the judges responsible for ruling on the appeal was formerly a partner in a ﬁrm that had represented FX in the past. Could it be FX and Ryan Murphy are dragging this out hoping DeHavilland, now 101 years old, may not be around to object much longer? There was a French woman, Jeanne Louise Calment, who lived to be 122 years and 164 days. DeHavilland may just stay the course. *** Robert Downey, Jr., who will hit screens next April in the title role of "The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle," will have a powerful supporting cast in Antonio Banderas, Jim Broadbent and Michael Sheen in live-action roles. Doing voiceovers are "Spider-Man" Tom Holland (a dog), Emma Thompson (a Polynesian parrot), Ralph Finnes (a tiger), Selena Gomez (a giraffe), Kumail Nanjiani (an ostrich), Octavia Spencer (a duck), Remi Malick (a gorilla), Marion Cotillard (a fox) and John Cena as, what else, a polar bear!

*** It's that time when shows ﬁnd out if they stay or go off. Word at ABC is that while "The Good Doctor" has been renewed, it's more than likely that "Kevin (Probably) Saves the World" probably won't be saved. Over at CBS, thanks to Leah Remini joining the cast, "Kevin Can Wait" will be renewed, but "Living Biblically" and "Me, Myself and I" will not see a second season. "Elementary" and "Code Black" will return around April 30. Fox has canceled "Wisdom of the Crowd," and "The Exorcist" is on shaky ground. NBC has renewed "Law & Order: SVU" for a 20th season, which will tie it with the longest-running series ever, "Gunsmoke." The CW, owned by CBS, has become the comic-book network, and in addition to the former CBS show "Supergirl," it's renewed "The Flash," "Arrow," "Legends of Tomorrow," "Supernatural," "Riverdale," "Jane the Virgin and "My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend." In last season's shocking cliffhanger, Baz (Scott Speedman) was shot while on his way to Mexico after framing Smurf (Ellen Barkin) for murder. Season three opens with Smurf in jail and her grandson J (Finn Cole) in charge of the family business. A: "Grace and Frankie" and "Ozark" have been renewed for their ﬁfth and second seasons, respectively. However, "The Alienist" was always meant to be a 10-episode limited series, and there are no plans as of this writing to make another season. But since there are more books in the series by author Caleb Carr to use as source material (the third book comes out September 2019), it's not out of the question for the show to continue. Dakota Fanning has even expressed interest in continuing on with the series. We'll just have to wait and see.

They're always low in cost, to a great location and someone else drives the bus. Some trips include a tour guide at the other end, with lunch planned at a wonderful place with a view out the windows. If your senior center has trips like this, be sure to sign up early. Spaces will go fast.

Summer gear is starting to appear on store shelves. Stock up on sunscreen and hats, and grab a new water bottle while you're there. And maybe a red hat?

This year, the tech asked if I wanted my cats microchipped. I said no, because they're indoor cats and it seems like an unnecessary expense. He looked at me like I was almost a criminal for not saying yes! What do you think? -- Dottie in Knoxville, Tennessee DEAR DOTTIE: It's entirely your decision whether to microchip your pets, so there was no need for the tech to get all judgmental about it.

PETS AND NEIGHBORS: DON'T GET PERSONAL DEAR PAW'S CORNER: I'm in charge of writing the monthly newsletter for our neighborhood association. This month, I want to publish a warning to one of the homeowners who regularly lets their dogs run off leash and into the streets. However, the head of the association made me take out the article ahead of publication. Why? It's a safety issue. -- Concerned HOA officer in Georgia DEAR CONCERNED: While you're right about letting dogs run loose in the street being a safety issue, calling the offender out by name in the neighborhood newsletter is not the way to go. It sounds like the head of the association didn't explain all the reasons why it's a bad idea. For one thing, singling out a neighbor by name -- even if that person is the only one letting their dogs run off leash -- can have legal ramifications for the association. That can get expensive. Even if things don't get that heated, that neighbor probably knows that you write the newsletter, and you could become the target of their ire. Talk to the association head face-to-face or by email and ask what can be done to address this issue. Chances are, the neighbor has already been notified by the association. Another option is for the association head or the directors to remind everyone at the regular meeting, without singling anyone out. Or, a notice can be put in the newsletter that also does not single out any residents -- one that reminds everyone of the association rules or any relevant city ordinances. I know you want to act more quickly, but you're working as part of a group of neighbors. So work with them to address this problem.

Since I have your attention, though, allow me to throw some statistics your way. A 2009 study cited by the American Veterinary Medical Association found that dogs without microchips were returned to their owners 22 percent of the time, whereas microchipped dogs were returned 52 percent of the

time. Cats without microchips were reunited with their owners less than 2 percent of the time, whereas microchipped cats went back home 38 percent of the time. Now, I know Betty and Wilma are purely indoor cats, which vastly improves their chances for healthy, long lives. However, accidents happen. Doors get left ajar. Thunderstorms roll in. And indoor cats ... get outside. Your cats probably have collars and tags -- and that's great. But cats are notorious for slipping their collars. While a microchip doesn't guarantee your cats will be found and reunited with you, it does greatly improve the odds. Microchips have been standardized and data networks greatly improved over the past decade. So, while it is always your choice to microchip your cats, I do think it's worth the extra cost to do so. tious man who has been able to have it both ways, a harsh but reasonable-appearing right-winger. But now he wants to step off for a while, or at least have it appear that he is. Now that Donald Trump has taken over, Ryan's survival skills dictate that he embrace the president at the same time he keeps him at arm's length. That's exhausting, and increasingly difﬁcult, particularly since Trump has this tendency to go kablooey as the walls close in. And they're closing in. Special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation is grinding on, and POTUS is in a tizzy. He's lashing out, and who knows what he'll do as the pressure builds.

RYAN GETS OUT WHILE THE GETTING'S GOOD

Washington is not the place to be for someone who wants to position himself as a leader of the "I told you so" gang after the kablooey really hits the fan. Ryan's hometown is about as not Washington as any place can be to escape the splatter.

In Washington politics, rarely does anybody fully mean what he or she says. But few who know Paul Ryan doubt that he's sincere when he explains that he's abandoning his all-consuming job as House speaker to spend much more time with his wife, Janna, and their three kids. Believe it when he says he's not running for re-election to Congress because he's longing to be more than a "Saturday dad." So, he'll be going home to Janesville, Wisconsin, as a private citizen next year. However, another reality in Washington is that there usually is more to the story.

Besides, in Speaker Ryan's case, he certainly has calculated that the time has come to get out while the getting's good. It's no fun being a minority leader, and it's looking like the GOP might just lose control of the House. Forty-plus Republican members are exiting stage right, or being forced out because of scandals. If the Democrats avoid the tendency to squander their own momentum and actually assume the majority, Donald Trump's presidency might well be toast, particularly if Mueller lowers the boom or Trump lowers it on himself.

The speaker is immensely powerful on paper, being second in line for presidential succession and leading the House of Representatives. But leading this group of House Republicans is an exercise in frustration. True, they hold a majority in Congress, but that's illusory. In fact, the GOP is badly split between conservatives, extremists and wackos. Trying to please them all is impossible. They run roughshod over each other as often as they do the hapless Democrats.

Meanwhile, back under the Capitol Hill big top, the circus will become a political freakshow as those Paul Ryan left behind try not to look like clowns as they maneuver to replace him. The difﬁculty is to break out the long knives while not appearing to be a crude back-stabber. But now Paul Ryan can be above all that.

Along with clapping to grasp rhythms, the pace is set as she gets serious, focusing on Krista's fingers on her strings as they make music together. Sitting on the sidelines in the room, I thought, "Don't ever quit playing the violin, Naomi." Keep learning and practicing so that when you get my age, you won't have regrets and say, "If only I would have continued my music lessons." Krista believes school-age kids often quit because, quite simply, it's hard work. It can be frustrating to keep at it as tiny muscles train through repeated practice. "Nowadays, many kids feel they would rather do sports, especially as spring approaches," she says. "That's fine. But my mom, also a violinist, kept on me to balance both. The breakthrough came when I discovered that

playing the violin had ultimately become my own. It was gratifying, but it took a lot of discipline. I have a heart issue for which I take medication. I want to know if my blood pressure is too low. -- Anon. ANSWER: Among young adults, only 5 percent of men will have a blood pressure below 110/60 or so, and for young women, it's 90/46. Blood pressure tends to go up with age, so low blood pressure numbers are higher for older adults. For people with healthy hearts, the only time we worry about low blood pressure is if there are symptoms, and the most common symptoms are lightheadedness and fainting. In people with congestive heart failure, low blood pressure usually is not concerning in itself, but because it might indicate that the heart is getting weaker. However, many of the medications used for CHF reduce blood pressure, which can even limit the amount of medication that can be used. In people with blockages in their arteries, too low a blood pressure can cause inadequate blood ﬂow to parts of the heart and cause angina symptoms. Although they most commonly occur on the hands and feet, some strains of HPV are more likely to cause warts in the genital region. Warts are more likely to occur in areas of skin that are irritated, such as cuts, scrapes and even areas that are shaved. SPICE BIN Why not collect food-storage antiques? Food had to be specially prepared to last during the centuries before ice boxes and refrigerators. Long hours were spent smoking, pickling, drying and canning foods. Fresh fruits and vegetables were available only "in season." Ice boxes were used in the 19th and 20th centuries. A block of ice was cut from a frozen lake then wrapped and stored in a special zinc-lined box. It melted as it cooled, and the housewife had to empty the pan of melted ice water at least once a day.

The first electric refrigerator was made in 1911, and by 1923, Frigidaire was selling a home refrigerator. Early refrigerators used freon in the cooling process, but to keep the planet green, the chemical was outlawed in the 1990s. The refrigerator-freezer combination we use today was first sold in 1939. But spices still are used to store, flavor and preserve food. Grocery stores of the 1890s sold spices from a large container, or later, the small-sized tins sometimes used today. A spice display was an important part of the store. A 36-inch-tall Pagoda-shaped spice bin with original paint sold at a Showtime auction in 2015. It was a six-sided tower that held ginger, cinnamon, mustard, cloves, allspice and pepper. The revolving tower had ornate lithographed labels on the tin sections. The rare antique sold for $3,300. If that is too big, look for the small (2- to 3-inch) tins that used to hold spices. The best have unusual graphics. Prices range from $5 to $25. They are still found at house sales, flea markets and online, but rarely at auctions because they are so inexpensive. *** Q: I'm downsizing and want to sell my dining-room furniture.
