• The Original Oyster House restaurants will again honor Mobile and Baldwin County Law Enforcement, Firefighters, Paramedics and Sheriff officers with a free lunch in honor of 9/11 on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, anytime between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at either Original Oyster House location, on the Causeway in Mobile or in the Original Oyster House Boardwalk in Gulf Shores. Simply show your ID or wear your uniform. We want to show our appreciation to all First Responders for putting your life on the line for our safety.

Members, guests and the public are invited to come hear Roger Beasley perform a medley of Elvis songs. Roger and wife Elaine, known as Musicman & Co., have appeared as the house band at Post 44 since it reopened in 2007 after being destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2005. There is no admission fee, beverages and light food will be available for purchase. This recipe is sure to satisfy your shrimp and taste of the island craving all at once. This recipe serves four so, for a larger crowd you may want to double.

Sweet and Spicy Coconut Shrimp Ingredients 1/2 c. all-purpose flour 1 T. sugar 1 tsp. ground red pepper 1/2 tsp. salt 2 eggs 2 T. water 2 1/2 c. sweetened flaked coconut 1 lb. large shrimp, peeled and deveined, with tails 2 c. vegetable oil Instructions: In a shallow dish, combine flour, sugar, ground red pepper, and salt; mix well. In a medium bowl, beat together eggs and water. Place coconut in another shallow dish. Coat shrimp in flour mixture then dip in egg mixture. Roll in coconut, pressing it firmly onto both sides of the shrimp to coat completely. In a large saucepan, heat oil over medium heat.

Cook shrimp in batches for 1-1/2 to 2 minutes, or until golden, turning once during cooking. Drain on a paper towel-lined platter. Serve immediately.
