3745 Gulf Shores Pkwy, Gulf Shores, AL 36542 Granito’s House provides high quality granite countertops, cabinets, and flooring to customers throughout the Gulf Coast.

Our friendly and courteous staff guarantees excellent customer service.

Bell’s Hometown Pharmacy is a favorite one stop shop in the town of Bay Minette. The friendly environment makes you want to stop in and see them all of the time. They have friendly employees, competitive prices, and it’s cute to boot. You can drop your prescriptions off at the drive through or you can wait while they fill them for you. The couch in the lounging area is the perfect place to just sit and take a load off. No worries if you have kids with you, they have a play area just for them. The coffee shop inside is a favorite because of the amazing handmade lattes and the old fashioned root beer floats. They can make any type of coffee that you could possibly want and I often run in just for coffee. The handcrafted items throughout the store will keep you coming back for all occasions. Their prices are reasonable so no need to go anywhere else. Every part of this store is unique. The pharmacist, Michael, will answer any question you may have about prescriptions. They also have a $4 prescription list and if your medication is on the list, Michael will be sure to let you know. Bell’s Hometown Pharmacy is conveniently located at 619 McMeans Avenue, across from Wal-Mart, next to Dollar Tree and the Recreation center. Check out their Facebook page, Bell’s Hometown Pharmacy, or contact them at 251-202-9444. Their hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday’s 10am to 2pm.

AMERICAN IDOLS A while back I watched a TV program that almost made me cry. It was one of the “American Idol” auditions...but this particular program focused on some of the rejects – the worst singers to have entered the tryouts. It actually was comical, because these people were just awful singers who had never been told how terrible they really were. They had stylish moves, costumes, and big dreams of being the next nationwide celebrity. However, nobody had ever told them the brutal truth that they just could not sing at all. (I don’t mean that they were just not good enough to be professional singers. I mean that they were tone-deaf ; or as we say down South, they “couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket!”) The judges, upon hearing them, were merciless and even sarcastic. “Whoever told you that you could sing lied to you,” one said. “I would rather hear a cow give birth than to hear you sing! Have pity on the world and do something else, ANYTHING else, with your life! You have NO TALENT for singing!” Some of the contestants argued back that they indeed could sing. They were in denial of the most obvious fact. Some of them said that they were having a bad day or it just wasn’t the right song. They too were in denial. Some tried to take the news bravely, but said that their “dream will not die”, and they would work harder to become a good singer. The judges told them frankly that it could never happen, that a certain innate talent was missing, and that they might get better, but they would never be good, much less great. The judges were right.

However, what almost made me cry was not the dozens of contestants who were in denial, but the ones who, for the first time ever, were told the shocking painful truth, and accepted it. I was embarrassed for them. There, in front of millions of viewers, their hearts were broken, their “talents” were ridiculed, and their dreams were dashed onto the rocks. Unavoidable reality caved in on them, and it was not a pretty sight. One very handsome young man literally fell to the floor, overcome with sorrow. Utterly devastated, he wailed loudly for more than a full minute. It seemed much longer. Sitting there watching it, I wanted to cry. I felt guilty for being entertained by this intrusion into his overwhelming grief. I could go a lot of directions with this story. I could talk about the fact that TV appeals to the worst of our nature when it gets us to laugh AT, instead of WITH, other people. That is certainly true. Or, I could talk about the fact that we all have limitations, areas in which we have no talent, and we need to admit that there are some things we will never be good at. Find out what you can do well and work at becoming even better. But when you find something that you could never do well... let somebody else handle that. Or I could comment on the unintended cruelty of the family and friends of these aspiring “singers.” It would have been kinder to tell them gently before they made fools of themselves! But instead, I would like to make a different point by asking some important questions: Are Carrie and Kelly and Taylor and Reuben, and the other great singing talents on “American Idol”, actually better people than these embarrassed young ladies and gentlemen who couldn’t carry a note? Are J. Lo and Brad, and all the other celebrities in the movies and entertainment and sports just better human beings

than all the rest of us? If someone is able to sing or dance, or act, or just look so beautiful, are they really different from us in ways that really count? If a man can quickly carry a bag of air across a line of chalk... or hit a small sphere with a big stick... or slam a round ball through a hoop... or knock a little ball into a cup in the ground... does that make him just worlds above the masses of “average” humanity? Is his life innately more valuable than yours or mine? While admiring and enjoying their talents, I for one am weary of the fawning. I don’t really care what size pool Paris Hilton has, or how many diamonds Madonna has. I don’t need to know who designed the dress or who fixed the hair. And... please trust me...I am not jealous! But on the other hand, I have some really good news for all of the rest of you! Good news for you who struggle to pay your bills, who have “bad hair” days, and who can’t seem to lose those pounds.Good news for all of you who can’t slam-dunk a ball, and who will never see Hollywood.Good news for the pizza delivery boy... the mom trying to get the kids ready for school... and the man driving the same old pickup truck to work every day: There is only one whose opinion really matters. There’s only one who has the right and power and wisdom to be the judge of everyone. And to Him you are just as important... just as valuable... just as good... and just as significant as Cher, or Liz, or Brad, or ‘Magic’, or Tiger. Or Carrie or Adam or Kelly. Actually the last time I checked, He didn’t really care much for idols. [ Condensed from “Broken Roads to Grace” by Jim Lee. A Note From the Editor

Disciple Do you want the Lord to use you? Read this poem that I read years ago. Ask the Lord to search your heart. O, Christ, as once of old to tell the story of your love divine. The story still the same, as sweet, as true, but there’s no tongue to tell it now but mine. Tho hast no hands, o Christ as once of old to feed the multitudes with bread divine. Tho hast the living bread, enough, but there’s no hand to to give it out, but mine. Tho hast no feet, o Christ as once to go where the lost sheep in sorrow pine. Thy love is still as deep, as true, but now tho hast no feet to go but mine. Shall I use these ransom powers of mine for things that only minister to me? Let us take our tongue, our hands, our feet our all and let us live and love and be a disciple that is true. May we use our hands to help someone in need knowing it is as Jesus ‘ hands here on earth. May we use our feet to walk an extra mile knowing it is as Jesus’ feet. May help feed the poor knowing that what Jesus would do. May we use our tongue to tell others the good news as Jesus did. May we be a true disciple, a vessel for him to work through.
