Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio & Beauty Shop When you pass through the cute little town of Bay Minette, there is one amazing place that you really must check out - Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio & Beauty Shop. The stylists there have fantastic skills and they will make you feel like family and they stay up to date on fashion and style. Some of their services offered are manicures, pedicures, ear piercing, waxing, color, shampoo, cuts and styles. They carry a large supply of trendy name brand cosmetics, perfumes, and jewelry and their services and products have amazingly competitive prices. Man or woman, boy or girl, it doesn’t matter. The ladies at Merle Norman can update your hairstyle, touch up those stubborn eyebrows, pamper you with a mani/pedi, or they can introduce you to the newest trends in makeup and application. They will make you feel like a whole new person. All of the ladies at Merle Norman are very sweet and very talented. Miss Roz is the stylist that provided haircuts for me and my daughter. She went above and beyond to make us comfortable and she cut our hair exactly the way we wanted it. She also cut and styled my wife’s hair and waxed her eyebrows. She did such a wonderful job and my wife said she was on cloud nine when Roz rinsed and massaged her hair. I highly suggest visiting this salon. Merle Norman is located at 249 S Hwy 31 in Bay Minette. It is right next door to Street’s Restaurant and across the road from Chuck Stevens Dodge Chrysler Jeep dealership. (251) 971-2005 • 10062 Tony Drive, Foley, AL 36535 Alabama Gulf Coast Christian Academy was founded in 2006 with 21 students but is quickly approaching 100 students in grades PK3 – 12 for the 2012-2013 school year. While there are waiting lists for certain grade levels, there is still room for new students in most of our classes. If you would like your child to receive their education in a close knit, friendly, family type atmosphere where God’s word is taught and emphasized in every subject, then AGCCA may be the place for you. Located in a quiet country setting at the corner of county roads 28 and 71 in Summerdale, AL, the school boasts of a quality Christian education in a family atmosphere. We strive to teach the whole child and instill a faith in God that the student will have with them long after graduation. Our theme for next school year is “Serving in HIS steps” taken from John 12:26. We have daily Bible classes and daily chapel services that will emphasize the idea of serving God. Additionally, this summer AGCCA had a school mission trip to Costa Rica where teachers and students were able to serve others in a foreign context for 10 days. At AGCCA we want to impress on our students that we have opportunities every day to serve God and serve others in His kingdom. In addition to serving God, we have also been earnestly working to prepare for the school accreditation process. We are excited to host our on site visit for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the National Christian Schools Association during April of the 2012-2013 school year. We feel that this accreditation will serve to further validate the excellent education that our students already receive each year. To coincide with SACS accreditation, we have also added a mobile computer lab to our school. We have purchased a classroom set of laptops and plan to use the school’s existing Wi-Fi service to bring the computer lab to our classrooms. We have also hired a certified Art teacher to our staff for the 2012-2013 school year to further serve the needs and talents of our student body. We would like to invite you to stop by our school one day and see the Smart Boards that are in every classroom in action, and say hello to our family of students and teachers. Please visit our website at www. gccacademy.org or call our office at (251)9892333 for further information about how your child could benefit from a quality Christian education.

A PARABLE: “A TALE OF TWO CHURCHES” Recently I attended two different churches. We will call them “Pine Street” and “Elm Street.” They were about the same size and were of the same denomination. There was one thing, though, that made them different. Pine Street Church had something that Elm Street didn’t have. Elm Street didn’t have it and didn’t want it. Pine Street, however, felt that they just really couldn’t function, couldn’t grow, and couldn’t survive without it. I visited Pine Street one Sunday, and noticed that they were in a big attendance drive. When I entered they had me to fill out a card with my address and church membership status. Then I was escorted into a classroom, where everyone was reminded that we all needed to read our Bibles daily, give a tithe or offering, and study the lesson so the class could get a “hundred percent” grade. The teacher told us that we were trying to win the attendance banner, and that since God was faithful to us, we should certainly be faithful to the church. We also were told that in order for God to bless our finances, we must bring all the tithes (10 % of our income) to the “storehouse” which was the church. It was very simple. We could be financially blessed, or we could be financially cursed. It all depended on whether we tithed that ten percent. When the preacher stood to preach, he told us some amazing stories. We were told that hell was thousands of degrees hot. He asked us did we want to go there, and if not, did we want our family and friends to go there? He told us of a man who had put off his “decision” for one more day, and then was killed in a car
wreck before he had another chance. He then related to us that the voice of God himself had told him to warn us that the same thing could happen to any of us before the week was over! At the end, we sang several verses of a song, and some people came to the front to pray. But apparently it wasn’t enough people, because the minister then said some things that got many more people to come. He told the children that their mothers would be proud if they came forward. Then he told us that if we didn’t come to pray we obviously didn’t care if people went to hell. Finally, he said that since most of the people were now at the altar, the rest of us should certainly feel ashamed. When the service was over, I left Pine Street Church feeling exhausted. I had forgotten what an ordeal it could be. I felt that I was a big disappointment to God, that I was not very faithful, and that He was probably quite angry with me. I guessed that I was just not very “spiritual.” Really, I just didn’t want to go back to Pine Street any more. A few Sundays passed before I went to church again, and this time I visited Elm Street Church. Frankly, I was getting ready to endure another round of a similar ordeal. But things were very different at Elm Street. Nobody made me fill out a card or stand up and wear a ribbon. I can’t really describe it, but here at Elm Street things were more relaxed. There was really not anything special about it, except it felt happy and peaceful. The pastor was friendly but not pushy. He was not the entertaining preacher that the minister over at Pine Street had been, but there was a sincerity there. Nobody expected him to have all the answers. In one of the study sessions one member said something about “embracing mystery”, meaning that there are some things about God we cannot understand, and some questions we cannot

answer, and that it was okay! At Elm Street, no individual or group seemed to be more important than the others were. There was a lot of laughter. Some of the people asked me about my job and about my family. A young man even told me that the church had been “very honored” by my coming to Elm Street! They didn’t try to get me to do anything. Nobody implied that my love for God was equated with my involvement in the church. They were just glad to be there, and glad that I was with them for that day. I felt that I was among people who were honest and open and real. I didn’t feel guilty or ashamed or embarrassed or condemned. I knew that I would come back again to Elm Street Church. At the beginning of this “tale of two churches”, I said that there was something that Pine Street had that Elm Street didn’t have. I said that Pine Street Church felt that they couldn’t grow or function without it, but that Elm Street Church did not want it.The “it” that I am talking about is called “manipulation”—putting all kinds of pressure on people to get them to do what they don’t really want to do. Pine Street Church manipulated people through fear, shame, intimidation, guilt, pride, competition, and even greed. Elm Street, on the other hand, did not want to manipulate anybody. It was as different as daylight and dark. They both wanted to do good things, but one church chose force, while the other chose freedom. If you accidentally find yourself on Pine Street, don’t get angry with the Pine Street people. They mean well. Just calmly and quickly make a U turn, and head for Elm Street. A Note From the Editor
When we walk in love, it will produce all the other fruit the Bible talks about. Without love, we cannot have the manifestation of all the other spiritual gifts. In Corinthians 13, we read that we are to follow after love and desire the spiritual gifts. The gifts and the fruit are to compliment one another. Faith works by love. Spiritual gifts are not a sign of Holiness, although they declare the sanctifier is present. Naturally, the maximum uses of the gifts are being manifested with love as they are bathed in the holiness of the spirit. Love is the very nature and thus we are to pursue it, as we desire spiritual gifts for the edification of the body. There are three classifications of the fruitage of the spirit. Those which manifest our relation to God, love, joy and peace, his peace, his joy, his love being manifested in us. Then there are those that bear a relation to our neighbor, patience, long suffering, gentleness and faithfulness and those that bear a relation to ourselves demonstrating meekness, modesty, temperance and control. May God help us to show our fruit in our relation to God, to our neighbor and to ourselves.
