• Austria-born celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck learned to cook from his mother, a part-time pastry chef. After immigrating to America at age 25, he worked two years in Indianapolis before becoming a chef in Los Angeles. His first cookbook was published when he was 33. Puck’s first Spago restaurant opened on the Sunset Strip the following year. He now has 19 restaurants. The Beverly Hills Spago has been on the list of the Top 40 restaurants in the United States since 2004. Puck cites macaroons as his absolute favorite food. Had he not chosen his current profession, he says he would have liked to have been an artist. • Although Ginger Rogers is most famous for her movie roles as Fred Astaire’s dancing partner, she only appeared with him in 10 out of her 73 films. Born Virginia McMath, it was her ambition to become a schoolteacher, but at 19, she became a Hollywood star almost overnight. At age 60, she still had her high heels on, dancing the Charleston on an episode of close friend Lucille Ball’s sitcom. turn the page for more!

JULY BABIES (continued): • Original “Saturday Night Live” cast member Dan Aykroyd was born and raised in Ottawa, Canada, the son of a policy adviser to Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. Aykroyd was born with not one, but two interesting physical conditions — syndactyly (webbed toes) and heterochromia, meaning his eyes are different colors.

• Will Ferrell is more than just a funny guy, he is also a marathon runner, having competed in several major races, including Boston and New York. After serving as his high school football team’s kicker and working part-time as a bank teller, he went on to study Sports Broadcasting at USC. Ferrell’s father was a backup musician for The Righteous Brothers. • Turning 94 this month hasn’t slowed down comedienne Phyllis Diller, who still appears occasionally on television. Although known for her wild hairdos, outlandish costumes and cackling laugh, she is also an accomplished pianist and painter. During World War II, Diller spent her days as a housewife and mother, doing advertising copywriting on the side while her husband worked at a B-24 bomber plant. She makes no attempts to conceal the fact that she’s had at least 15 plastic surgery procedures. • It wasn’t Lisa Kudrow’s first choice to go into the entertainment industry. Kudrow, of “Friends” fame, intended to join her physician father in the medical field. After receiving her degree in biology from Vassar, she did research on the cause of headaches for eight years. Her brother’s childhood friend, comedian Jon Lovitz, convinced her to give comedy a try, and in 2005, she became the highest-paid television actress of all time, along with her “friends” Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox, earning $1 million per episode of the popular sitcom. • Two figure-skating Olympic champions are having their birthday this month. Dorothy Hamill was the ladies’ singles gold medal winner in 1976. Overnight she became “America’s Sweetheart,” with females across the nation copying her bobbed hairstyle. The Dorothy Hamill doll was introduced shortly afterward. In recent years, she has penned two autobiographies and has survived breast cancer. Kristi Yamaguchi took the Olympic gold in 1992, turning professional immediately afterward. It was at these Olympics that she met her husband, who was a member of the Olympic hockey team. Yamaguchi’s mother was born in a Japanese internment camp where her grandparents had been sent during World War II. Yamaguchi was the celebrity winner of “Dancing with the Stars” in its sixth season. The marketing of veterinary drugs on-line and $4 human prescriptions are not what they appear. The old adage: “Let the buyer beware may apply!” Foreign imports, mislabeled drugs and bootlegged products are common with on-line pharmacies. The major ethical veterinary drug companies will not sell to on-line pharmacies because there is no doctor/patient/owner relationship. Many of the commonly used flea/tick products, heartworm preventives and prescription drugs carry many side-effects and without a veterinarian’s guidance the consumer assumes all the risk. When products are purchased from a veterinarian and a drug related problem arises the drug companies at the request of the veterinarian will usually help cover the cost of medical treatment. How can the on-line pharmacies get name brand drugs to sell? They resort to getting independent veterinarians to buy large amounts of product and divert it to the on-line pharmacies. These second hand transactions leave the consumer totally at risk and with little recourse. The truth is that most on-line pharmacies in the end are usually more expensive than buying products from your family veterinarian. Lost leader discount drugs that are purchased through major retail chains are usually foreign generic drugs bought on the lowest bid price. Discount pharmacies lose money on the $4 drugs but they make 2-5 times more in additional store impulse purchases. Indepentent investigations have shown that many of these foreign companies in India and China have flunked FDA regulations repeatedly and they avoid fixing production problems. Veterinary distributors are a very ethical group and buy from reputable generic and brand name drug producers. The cost of quality medications and a fair dispensing fee gives a value added assurance that your pet is getting the best medications available. Human pharmacies know human medical needs and they do not know your cat’s or dog’s specific needs. The chance of dispensing mistakes are much greater with the $4 prescription. If you want the FDA guidelines pamphlet for buying from on-line pharmacies call us at 303-663-2287 and we will send you a copy and you decide. Dr. James K. Olson is "The Meow Doc", a nationally recognized veterinarian specializing exclusively in cats. Dr. Olson holds the title of Diplomate, Feline Specialty, from the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. CELEBRITY EXTRA By Cindy Elavsky
• Richard Starkey turns 71 this month. If you don’t recognize the name, you may have followed his career as Ringo Starr, the drummer for the Beatles from 1962 to 1970. Starr wasn’t the Beatles’ first choice for their percussionist. He was already playing in Liverpool with the band Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, while Pete Best was drumming for the Beatles. Starr was very ill for much of his childhood and spent two years in a sanatorium recovering from pleurisy. If you’re a fan of Thomas the Tank Engine, you’ve heard Starr narrating the character’s first two series on children’s television. • July baby Donald Rumsfeld served as Secretary of Defense under two different U.S. presidents, Gerald Ford and George W. Bush. It’s noteworthy that while attending Princeton University as a young man, his roommate was Frank Carlucci, who also went on to serve as Secretary of Defense under Ronald Reagan. • J.K. Rowling penned the first book of the Harry Potter series as a single mom living on welfare. Within five years, she was a millionaire. She conceived the idea of the boy wizard while sitting through a four-hour train delay back in 1990. Seven books and 4,195 pages later, Forbes magazine estimates her net worth in excess of $1 billion. The series has been translated into 65 languages. • Remembered for her extravagant collection of 2,700 pairs of shoes, former first lady of the Philippines Imelda Marcos is a former Miss Philippines. To put her shoes in a mathematical equation, if she were to change her shoes three times a day, never putting on the same pair twice, it would take upwards of two years and five months to wear them all. She and her husband Ferdinand plundered millions of dollars of the country’s wealth during their 21-year tenure. • Walter Payton, one of the NFL’s most incredible running backs, played his entire pro football career with the Chicago Bears, shattering league records left and right. His father, a factory worker, had played semi-pro baseball for a time. Payton spent his early high school years playing drums in the school marching band, singing in the choir and as a member of the track team. During his NFL career, he enjoyed playing practical jokes on his fellow Bears and was known to run to the locker room after a game and lock the door, leaving his teammates standing in the cold as he took a long, hot shower. During pileups on the field, it wasn’t uncommon for him to untie the refs’ shoelaces. Off the field, he loved to cook and play chess and was an accomplished dancer. Sadly, he contracted a rare liver disease, which progressed into bile duct cancer and claimed his life at age 45.

Q: I’ve been loving this season of “So You Think You Can Dance,” and it got me to wonder- Ryan Harris ing how one of my favorite past winners has been doing. Can you tell me what season-six winner Russell Ferguson has been up to lately? -- Dominique F., via e-mail A: Since winning the “SYTYCD” title in December 2009, Russell has been busy dancing, teaching and acting. I spoke with him recently, and he gave me the scoop: “Right after (I won “SYTYCD”), I got to perform at the Academy Awards. I’ve been teaching pretty much everywhere around the country: Virginia, Utah, Washington and Cali. I’m in a film called ‘Battlefield America’ that’ll be out probably at the end of next year. It’s definitely the next big dance movie.” Russell and the rest of America can re-live their favorite “SYTYCD” moments from seasons six through eight starting Friday, Aug. 5 on Ovation. The network is producing original extras featuring the judges, dancers and choreographers as they reveal their favorite moments from the show. Go to ovationtv.com for a complete schedule. *** Q: One of my favorite summer movies so far has been “Thor.” Any plans for a sequel? -- Ted G., Allentown, Pa. A: It just so happens that the moneymaking movie about an ax-wielding superhero is prime for a sequel, which Disney and Marvel Studios plan to deliver. Chris Hemsworth will be back to play the title character, and you can expect the sequel to come swinging into theaters in July 2013. *** Q: I recently saw “A Better Life” and was really impressed by the young actress who played bad girl Ruthie. Can you tell me a little about her? -- Tanya D., via e-mail A: Up-and-comer Chelsea Rendon played Ruthie Valdez, the gang-member girlfriend of Luis. When I spoke with Chelsea, she told me she had always wanted to be an actress or performer, especially after seeing the performance of her idol, Jennifer Lopez, in “Selena.” Chelsea went on to get guest parts in “ER,” “Judging Amy” and “FlashForward,” and she is hoping “A Better Life” will be her break into something even bigger and better. Working with director Chris Weitz, who also directed “New Moon,” has its fringe benefits, aside from getting to work with a genius. Chelsea told me: “Chris got me tickets to the ‘Eclipse’ premiere. I met Taylor Lautner, and I was so proud of myself for staying calm. I also got to meet Peter Facinelli and everybody else. It was so cool, because these are people that I like and look up to.” *** Q: I really love “The Voice.” Will it be back with all four judges for another season? -- Stacy S., Atlanta A: Don’t you worry -- Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will all be back when the musical-competition show resumes midseason on NBC on Monday nights. Be on the lookout in the new year! Write to Cindy at King Features Weekly Service, P.O. Box 536475, Orlando, FL 32853-6475; or email her at letters@cindyelavsky.com. The citrine is a member of the quartz family – a large family of colors and varying structures that presents gemstone lovers with a variety of choices in adornment and decoration at a price many can afford. The name comes from the color – the yellow of the lemon – you know, citrus – citrine. The yellow stones have a warm, soft tone that reminds you of autumn. Perhaps that’s why citrine is considered a November gemstone. However, the citrine that are in greater demand are the ones that feature a clear, radiant yellowish to browninsh red. For six decades in the 18th century citrine was mined in Germany. Most of the crystals, however were small – barely a centimeter in diameter. Siberia and Brazil has delivered some larger crystals. In mysticism, the citrine or topaz as it is sometimes referred to, is said to dispel sadness, anger and nocturnal fears. It is also supposed to warn its wearer of poisons and protect him or her from sudden death. I’ll take one, thank you. But the best reason for a man to own a citrine is because it is supposed to make men handsome and intelligent. On second thought, I’ll take three! MICHAEL J. FOX Canadian celebrity Michael J. Fox, struck down at the height of his career, has used his adversity to further the search for a cure for illness. Here are some facts about this optimistic individual who has chosen to overcome his disabilities. • The Edmonton-born Fox moved several times as a child, the result of his father’s military career, finally settling in British Columbia. As a 15-year-old, he made his acting debut in a Canadian sitcom, “Leo and Me.” As he devoted more time to his passion for acting, his schoolwork was neglected and before long, he was flunking nearly every class. He made the decision to drop out of high school to pursue his career, something he now calls a “stupid youthful mistake.” His social studies teacher advised him, “You’re making a big mistake, Fox. You won’t be cute forever.” Fox achieved his GED 15 years after dropping out.

• At 18, Fox moved to Los Angeles. It wasn’t an easy road as he struggled to make a name for himself, and he lived on macaroni and cheese for months. He had sold all his furniture to survive shortly before landing his breakout role as Alex P. Keaton on TV’s “Family Ties” at age 21. Over the series’ seven-year run, he collected three Emmy Awards. In the midst of the sitcom, he took on the role of time-traveling teen Marty McFly in “Back to the Future,” a huge box-office hit, followed up by two sequels. • It was on to “Spin City” in 1996, where he portrayed New York’s deputy mayor, a role that earned Fox three Golden Globes and an Emmy. • It was during the filming of “Doc Hollywood” in 1991 that Fox first noticed an incontrollable twitching in his finger. Shortly afterward, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, a condition he chose to keep secret. On the set of “Spin City” he often kept his left hand in his pocket. This degenerative neurological disorder affects one in 100 people over age 60. Fox was 29. Those with the disease experience tremors, balance problems, slowness, reduced facial expression and an inability to direct their movements. • Fox went public in 1998 and underwent a thalamotomy, a procedure that surgically destroys a portion of the brain’s thalamus, effective in dramatically reducing tremors. In 2000, as his symptoms became worse, he announced his departure from “Spin City.” He established The Michael J. Fox Foundation, devoted to research for a cure for Parkinson’s. He continues to take limited short-term acting roles, as well as providing voices for a variety of popular children’s films. • Fox has added best-selling author to his list of accomplishments with the publication of “Lucky Man,” followed by “Always Looking Up: The Adventures of an Incurable Optimist.” He maintains that staying upbeat is the key to fighting his disease and jokes about brushing his teeth, saying it’s “like having an electric toothbrush without the battery.” In his words, “There’s always failure. And there’s always disappointment. And there’s always loss. But the secret is learning from the loss and realizing that none of those holes are vacuums.” Time magazine has placed him on their list of 100 people “whose power, talent or moral example is transforming the world.”

When Lightning Strikes! Each year, thousands of homes and other properties are damaged or destroyed by lightning. It’s responsible for more deaths and property loss than tornadoes, hurricanes and floods combined. Lightning is the only disaster that we can economically afford to protect ourselves against. If struck by lightning, a building will generally sustain more damage when there is no lightning protection system present. Preparation Tips •
Install a lightning protection system that complies with current nationally recognized codes. Lightning protection systems consist of air terminals (lightning rods) and associated fittings connected by heavy cables to grounding equipment. This provides a path for lightning current to travel safely to the ground.
•
Install surge arresters at your utility service and telephone equipment to prevent surges from entering your home or other structures on power or telephone lines. Surges are diverted to the ground, and both wiring and appliance are protected.
•
All Seasons Discount Transmission Repairs done right the first time!
Install transient voltage surge suppressors in receptacles to which computers and other electronic equipment are connected in order to limit the voltage to 1.5 times the normal voltage (maximum for solid state devices).
FREE towing w/ major repairs. Senior & Military discounts.

Free Woman’s Hormone Seminar Fear of Losses May Lead to Negative Investment Behavior
Cindy Rose cess.
Like every other investor, you prefer not to see the value of your investments drop. But at some point they will fall simply because of the ups and downs of the market. And how you respond to short-term losses can help determine if you enjoy long-term investment suc-
Investors’ feelings about losses can be complex. In the field of economics, an area of study is devoted to “loss aversion” — the concept that people dislike losing money so much that, given a choice, they’d prefer to avoid losses rather than take gains. For example, if you have a high degree of loss aversion, then you will find greater dissatisfaction by losing $100 than you’d get satisfaction from taking a $100 profit. Loss aversion can lead to various forms of negative investment behavior. Here are two of the most common results: Seeking “risk-free” investments — When you think of investment losses, the first thing that probably comes to mind is a drop in stock prices. If you’re really lossaverse, you might seek to avoid this situation by simply avoiding stocks and placing all your money in other investments. While some of these investments may seem “risk free,” you must consider factors such as inflation risk — the possibility that these investments may provide returns that don’t keep up with the rate of inflation. Holding “losers” too long — From time to time, you will own investments that, for whatever reason, underperform. If you’re highly loss-averse, though, you may have a tough time acknowledging the losing nature of these investments, so you may be tempted to hold on to them until they “bounce back.” But if the investment’s fundamentals change, or if the investment no longer aligns with your goals, it may be time to sell it and look for other opportunities. Conversely, you may want to hold on to quality investments whose price has dropped in the short term, because these investments may well recover. How can you avoid these types of behavior? For starters, you’ll need to recognize the symptoms of loss aversion in yourself — and then resolve to overcome them. Accept the fact that short-term losses are part of investing and that every single investment carries some type of risk. This doesn’t mean, of course, that you should do nothing to reduce your risk. One effective risk-fighting measure you can take is to diversify your holdings by investing in a variety of stocks, bonds, government securities, CDs and other investment vehicles. If you had all your holdings in only stocks or bonds, a downturn primarily affecting one of those assets could lead to a big hit for your portfolio. But by spreading your dollars among a variety of investments, you’re also spreading the risk. Keep in mind, though, that diversification by itself can’t guarantee a profit or protect against loss. Investment losses, even short-term ones, aren’t much fun. But by not overreacting to these losses, and by diversifying your portfolio in a way that best meets your individual needs, you can look past today’s losses toward tomorrow’s possibilities.

Last week I began to write on the subject of healing in the Bible, and we looked at the case of the leper who came to Jesus in Matt. 8 and he asked Jesus a very profound question. He said, “I know you can if you will”. In other words, I know your power can heal me but I do not know if it is your will to heal me. And we read where Jesus answered that question once and for all by saying, “I will, be clean”. And immediately the leprosy left this man. Today let’s look at another occurrence found in Matt 9, the woman with the issue of blood. The Bible tells us that this woman was in this condition now for 12 long years and she had spent every dime she had on doctors and treatments but yet was not better in any way. Did you know that sickness will rob you of your finances, rob you of your income, rob you of your time, rob you of your relationships, rob you of all that is good in this life? That is where this woman found herself. These things come from the devil, they are not of God, and they are not good in any form. Anyone who says, “Well God put this sickness on me to teach me a lesson”, frankly does not know the Lord! God never ever puts sickness on anybody, in fact a large part of our salvation that Jesus provided for you and me on the cross is the healing of our bodies. So this woman finds herself in a desperate place and desperate people will do desperate things. Somehow she has heard that as many as have touched even the clothes of Jesus have been totally and instantly healed by him. So she tells herself, “If I can but touch him, I will be clean”. Wow, what a faith statement that is! And that is exactly what faith will do, faith will declare ahead of time, what is going to happen. Why?...Because the Bible tells us in Heb 11 that “Faith is the substance of things hope for the evidence of things not seen”. She has faith that is as yet, not seen. And if it could be seen, then she would not need faith for it, because she would have it. But she says all I need to do is touch him and I will be healed in my body. And look what happened, Luke 8:44 (NLT) Coming up behind Jesus, she touched the fringe of his robe. Immediately, the bleeding stopped. The minute she touched him she felt the healing power of God come all over her body and she was instantly healed of her infirmity. Now some people would think that this action on her part was a bit presumptuous of her, but look what Jesus said. I think a big ol’ smile came over his face and he said, Luke 8:48 (NLT) “Daughter,” he said to her, “your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”

I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.. But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Pepsi I'd been drinking. I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Pepsi aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over.

The Pepsi is getting warm, and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold. As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need water.
So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do. At the end of the day: the car isn't washed the bills aren't paid there is a warm can of Pepsi sitting on the counter the flowers don't have enough water, there is still only 1 check in my check book, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did with the car keys. Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day, and I'm really tired. I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail....
