Narrow staircase, no light, not integrated with the building Feels like a typical staircase

All windows are different sizes and works with the gallery space well

This window particularly interested me from high up you can only see the ajacent building but when you go close to it, you can look down and see this space below, that space is a double height space with a full height window


SAW SWEE HOCK STUDENT CENTRE - O’donnel And Tuomey The facade looks great from the outside but the building itself is quite dark on the inside from the brick design you feel quite enclosed as you can’t see the outside, there are limited amount of windows where you can look out

It’s interesting the way the brick design is continued on the ground, I might bring that into my design

The building design is all around the ciculation of the stairs, it is a nice idea but there were too many floors, I didn’t feel so well as I reached up higher, also the ventilation wasn’t great in the place


BASQUE CULINARY CENTER - VAUMM

By studying the plans, it helped me to understand the sizes of the different rooms and how it can be arranged, I particularly liked the courtyard with a bridge over it, also how they play with the different levels

The photos have given me ideas of what the teaching kitchen rooms are suppose to look like and what materials to use for walls and flooring for different uses

The lift as a room, smoother transition to the floors. You don’t really feel like you are in a lift at all, it feels more secure, comfortable as some people get claustrophobic in lifts.

This is an office in London, it inspired me on getting light into the basement level and seeing what’s going on inside. By having 2 panes of glass with stairs in between, allows me to let light into the restaurant and see the kitchen at the same time on the street level I saw this building in Barcelona and found it really interesting as it draws people into the alleyway. The building is slanted to lead people in and the higher part of the building detached from the main part acting as an archway, creating a threshold

JEWELLER’S STUDIO WITH SHOP IN LONDON - DSDHA

Die Quartiere südlich der Themse wandeln sich seit Jahren. Jüngst implantierte etwa Renzo Piano den Wolkenkratzer »The Shard« in die heterogene Bebauung am Bahnhof London Bridge. Doch ganz in der Nähe fin­ den sich auch ruhige Gassen, die noch den mittelalterlichen Stadtgrundriss erkennen lassen. Hier kaufte der Schmuckdesigner Alex Monroe 2009 einen kleinen einge­ schossigen Laden am Ende einer Häuser­ zeile – inklusive Baurecht für eine Aufsto­ ckung um drei Etagen in Backstein. Den Architekten schwebte jedoch eine Holz­ konstruktion vor, leicht genug, um auf einem innerhalb der Ladenverkleidung verborge­ nen Stahlrahmen zu ruhen. Eine fein gear­ beitete Hülle aus Zinkblech sollte die Nut­ zung reflektieren. Nachdem der provisorisch verkleidete Holzbau schon eine Weile be­ zogen war, fand diese sowohl der Nutzung als auch der Materialpalette des Umfelds angemessene Lösung schließlich auch die Unterstützung der für die Baugenehmigung zuständigen Behörde. Vertikale Faltungen rhythmisieren die Fassa­ de, ebenso verschleiern sie den Maßstab und justieren Ein­ wie Ausblicke. Vor allem die zweigeschossige Öffnung mit Schiebe­ fenstern vor Werkstatt und Besprechungs­ raum schafft Bezüge zur Straße. Leichte horizontale Abstufungen nehmen die Glie­ derung der Zeile auf. Nicht nur farblich re­ agiert das gräulich­bronzen schimmernde »Schmuckkästchen« auf die Nachbarbe­ bauung, ohne sie nachzuahmen. Wie selbst­ verständlich behauptet es sich innerhalb der heterogenen Umgebung. Gerade von Osten, mit den Hochhäusern im Hinter­ grund, erscheint es selbst beinahe als Minia­ turturm, der zwischen den Maßstäben und Zeitschichten vermittelt. Die tragenden Elemente aus Kreuzlagen­ holz wurden in Österreich vorgefertigt und innerhalb von zwei Tagen montiert. Mit sicht­ baren Oberflächen prägen sie die Innen­ räume ebenso wie die im selben Material gefertigten Ausbauten. Die Fassade hin­ gegen ist – dem Handwerk des Bauherrn entsprechend – vor Ort in sorgfältiger Hand­ arbeit maßgefertigt.

This is the main inspiration fo the choice of material for my design. This is a zinc cladding, it looks like timber from far away, the colour chosen was from the idea of a jewellery box, the colour fits in with its context really well. I like how metal can look so thin and light The screen runs through the windows, as my design based on ‘transitions’ this is a great thing to have to merge the floors together, I particularly enjoy the balcony/ terrace part on the top floor This is done so neatly and they have achieved slender vertical lines with metal which is very impressive, it also gives an illusion to the scale.
