JULY 2024

If you have spent even a short amount of time in Steamboat Springs, you have probably heard the phrase “Come for the winter, stay for the summer.” Personally, I couldn’t agree more! While our winter season is an undoubtedly beautiful, activity-filled family experience, don’t overlook the charms of summers in “The Boat.”

Aside from the amazing weather, the beautiful lush green hues of the Yampa Valley, and the always-welcoming locals, there is no shortage of attractions to keep summer visitors busy and entertained. The restaurant scene is back in full swing, with many popular riverside eateries almost more bustling in the summer months than they are in the winter. Opportunities for hiking, biking, and fishing are everywhere. Golfing at high altitude will make you feel like Tiger or Rory with how far your tee shot will carry.

The OSP team is here to help you and your family create summertime memories that will last a lifetime. From weekly ice cream socials and happy hours, to our lend-a-bike program, or assistance with the many summer activities Steamboat has to offer, we are thrilled to welcome our OSP family for an unforgettable summer.

Experience a more modern, warm, and relaxing game room. Featuring a fresh color scheme, new foosball, shuffleboard, and ping pong tables, and new seating for Family Movie Night on the 80” TV, this upgraded room will deliver hours of family fun.

The project came in under budget, which allowed us to use the remaining funds and add much-needed roll-down shades to the Gathering Room on L3, making our après ski experience more pleasant.

If you have never taken your family to the Steamboat Pro Rodeo Series, you’re missing out on an essential Steamboat experience! This exciting, all-American event is the perfect way to spend a summer evening and is highly recommended by our team.

The series takes place every Friday and Saturday night from through August 24.

Local Summer Events

Even the base area of Steamboat Springs hosts plenty of activities to keep everyone in your party happy, including Friday night Movies on the Mountain, Sunday and Thursday Happy Hour at Thunderhead Lodge, Sunday morning Yoga on the Mountain, free summer concerts on the Steamboat Stage, or even simple family time playing on the beach of Burgess Creek.

TAKE A HIKE

“In the early 2000’s I spent time in Big Sur, California where I unexpectedly found myself drawn to the beautiful, lush hiking trails of Monterey County. When I found myself living in hot, humid, flat Florida, the thought of hiking in 90 degrees and 85% humidity just didn’t sound like fun to me. When I moved to Steamboat Springs in 2022, my hiking flame was reignited. Here are a few of our team’s hiking suggestions, ranging from easy to challenging.”

- General Manager, William Hartman

Easy: Yampa Core Trail – 7.1 Miles

This flat, paved “out and back” trail is the closest to OSP. While the trail starts further east, a great place to start is Rotary Park, just past the Highway 40 overpass at the bottom of Mt. Werner Road.

The trail rambles along the Yampa River, through downtown, and ends at the west side of town near Storm Peak Brewing. Owners can call OSP to request a ride back.

Moderate: Spring Creek Trail – 5.2 Miles

A multi-use trail popular for hiking and biking, this trail gradually climbs almost 1,500 feet from start to finish and is a personal favorite of the OSP team.

The trail has natural break points about every mile where you can choose to turn around if the elevation gain becomes too strenuous.

Easy to Challenging: Fish Creek Falls – 4.36 Miles

This “in town” trail offers something for everyone, young or old, seasoned hiker or novice. The trailhead at the top of Fish Creek Falls Road offers paid parking ($5.00).

For a leisurely walk suitable for the whole family, the lower falls are just one quarter mile down a paved dirt path. For a more moderate hike, cross the bridge and climb to the second falls.

As the trail continues to Long Lake, the rocky trail becomes more challenging. The total trail length is just 4.36 miles, but with a 1,400-foot elevation change past the bridge, it feels longer.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHTS

Reservations Manager

We are delighted to announce the promotion of Brittany to Reservations Manager! Brittany joined the One Steamboat Place housekeeping department in 2017. A fast learner and team player, she quickly earned a promotion to Key Housekeeper, then Housekeeping Supervisor where she continued to excel. Brittany has enjoyed getting to know the Owners in her first weeks as Reservations Manager.

In her free time, you can find Brittany shredding down the mountain on her snowboard or chowing down on Mexican food (she recommends Andy’s taco stand in San Miguel de Allende). From rafting trips to camping, hiking, and fishing, she loves it all! We are fortunate to have Brittany in the OSP family.

Club Services Attendant Supervisor

Ben is the newest member of the Club Services Attendant leadership. Born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, his passion for snowboarding drew him to Steamboat Springs, but the sense of community and unique beauty of the area kept him here. Ben began working for OSP this winter as a part-time CSA, but quickly proved he was ready for a position as a full-time CSA Supervisor.

Ben says the great people are what loves most about OSP and hopes to stay in Steamboat for the long haul. When he’s not snowboarding or racing down the hill on his mountain bike, Ben likes seeing as many concerts as he can and cooking his famous chicken curry.

Spa and Wellness Director

Originally drawn to OSP by the wonderful benefits and offerings, the sense of serenity of The Spa eventually had Carly hooked. From day one, OSP has felt like home, and the relationships she has built feel like family. Carly notes her favorite thing about OSP is that she can truly be herself while working with amazing and talented people.

Carly is in the process of completing her Reformer Pilates Instructor course and looks forward to opportunities to grow with Timbers’ upcoming projects. She spends her free time with her fur babies Belle and Sasha, visiting family, cooking, hiking, biking, camping, snowboarding, and gardening. Be sure to visit The Spa the next time you join us at OSP to say hello to Carly and indulge in the outstanding services The Spa offers.

2024 SOUTH SEAS TARPON TOURNAMENT

IN SUPPORT OF FOLDS OF HONOR

Captiva Island was abuzz this May as the 2024 South Seas Tarpon Tournament brought together anglers, veterans, and families to support Folds of Honor, a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to providing educational scholarships to families of fallen and disabled veterans and first responders. This inaugural tournament not only highlighted Captiva’s rich waters but also demonstrated a profound commitment to honoring those who have sacrificed for the country. The event, led by Timbers Company CEO and veteran Greg Spencer, aimed to make a tangible difference in the local community by funding scholarships for Folds of Honor recipients in Lee County, Florida.

Participants enjoyed a memorable weekend filled with camaraderie, heartfelt speeches, and family-friendly activities, raising $200,000 to fund 40 scholarships. The event’s highlight was a moving speech by Ashlyn McCain, a Folds of Honor scholarship recipient, whose story inspired every attendee to support the cause. The success of this event, made possible by generous sponsors and donors, ensures its return in 2025 on Memorial Day weekend, continuing the Timbers Company tradition of supporting and honoring the nation’s heroes.
