The views outside Leonora are of towering mountains. But another towering wonder is the centerpiece of this culinary landmark — a thousand-bottle wine silo. In all, the wine program includes some 350 labels and 5,000 bottles. There is a focus on the wines of Spain and its vinticultural siblings — Argentina and Chile, as well as rare finds from Mexico that round out a collection of esoteric selections. Thankfully, man need not live by bread alone.
T R A N S C E N D E N T TA PA S Leonora Carrington saw her first surrealist painting in Paris when she was just ten years old. It had a profound impact. Instead of perfection, the artwork conveyed to her a genuine sincerity, enlivened with a certain quirkiness. This first impression set Leonora on a career that would earn here worldwide acclaim, and the praise of Salvador Dali, who called Leonora “the most important female artist”. Like the artist Leonora, her namesake restaurant resonates with artful touches and creative approaches. And in this alpine setting, the bistro atmosphere and tapas style faire seems just right — the cuisine is new, but always accessible. It is honest, approachable yet intriguing and original. Spain, France, Argentina and Chile inform healthful dishes, and the atmosphere. Local artisans, a healthful and sustainable outlook play vital roles.
