Parade to kick off 2022 Fair

There is no better way to start off the Sedgwick County Fair than with a parade.

This year’s parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20. Parade line-up starts at 5 p.m. in the Cheney High School parking lot.

The parade will move south on Main Street, from Sixth Avenue to the railroad tracks at Santa Fe.

Over the history of the Fair, the parade has been a kick-off event when the Fair started on Thursday, a highlight of the final day on Saturday, and held somewhere in between the start and finish.

A few years ago, Fair organizers moved the parade from its longtime position on Thursday to Wednesday evening, and it has been a rousing success as the kick-off event ever since – similar to the Sundown Parade for the Wichita River Festival.

Groups, individuals and commercial businesses are all more than welcome to march, ride, or organize floats. Taking part is as easy as showing up in the Cheney High School parking lot between 5 and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20.

To sign up early, or for answers to questions, contact Carla Ewy at 316-772-1325 or carlaewy1@gmail.com, or Kassie Gile at 316-640-4043 or kgile31@gmail.com.

Parade participants are reminded that they are not to throw candy from vehicles or floats. Instead, those giving out candy are asked to walk alongside their entries.

For spectators, the parade starts at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and will proceed south down Main Street.
